A change that never changes
Sofia is sitting on the bed and staring out the window. The wind becomes stronger every evening, she notices. The window is closed sharp so all the sounds are left outside. Sofia observes a silent movement of the trees, meditating.
The sun is going down. She desires nothing but a change. It is the only thing she knows because of this constant feeling of emptiness and absence that she started to sense many years ago and that never released her from this torture ever since. A desire for a change has always been a core motif of her existence. A desire for a change that never changes.
Everybody around her seems to clearly understand how to live their lives, what goals to achieve and how to move on. Everybody, but her. Has she ever really thought about her actions? Has she ever really known what she wants? Sofia is sitting still trying to evoke memories of the past.
After graduating from the University things were going so bad that she tricked herself into a marriage in order to escape her unresolved problems, complicated family relationships, consuming loneliness, her country and moved to Chile. At that time, she saw that decision as the only way to keep going.
Moving to another continent is quite a change, she thought. However, she doubted it a little bit before going aboard a plane with only a suitcase towards a country she never had been to before. Nobody stopped her from doing it. She didn’t want to think about it. There existed this illusion of coming back in case if something goes wrong.
A few years later she realized that the same problems from the past were chasing her. Instead of feeling love and peace her loneliness intensified. Now Sofia was feeling completely alone together with her husband. Emptiness and absence were devouring her, but this time she was afraid of ending things since she had nowhere to go. She was in a closed cage suffocating from the monotonous boring life with a person she had nothing in common.
