This year, our theme (or rather @iftiqal’s) is all about “apa yang ada” (whatever you have). So baju raya recycle last year’s (walaupun nampak macam aku dah gemuk, tapi alhamdulillah baju tak sendat HAHA), bag baru pun belum sempat keluarkan dari kotak (tunggu opening ceremony soon ye), cuma kasut je finally dapat pakai yang baru (simpan berbulan takut nak tunjuk orang 🤣). Ifix and I were inspired by the colours of Violet Oon @ MBS, and Apit realised it for us. Berkat for my side was planned and packed by the wonderful @lindchng. I wanted something different, something unique so we decided to go for perfumes. And I also wanted something practical so I included specs cloth and screwdriver keychain, partially sponsored by @kjoptometrists, painstakingly packed by my mum hehe. My sireh dara, bunga pahar & bunga rampai were done by the excellent @azm.weddings aka pak andam top top meletops. For these, I told him to do whatever he deem fit. Of course, he never disappoints. Henna. If there’s one thing I’m very particular about during the wedding planning, it was my henna. From the design to the colour, everything about the henna has to be perfect. I mean I am Indian, so like obviously right? 🤣 I am also the kind who will go through extreme lengths to ensure my henna comes out well. Even when I do henna at bazaar Geylang for hari raya. On this date last year, @pesonabelle started drawing around 10am and she was done almost 4pm. I did not pee for the whole day, I slept with my henna on, my parents had to put me to bed (god bless them). The next morning, I woke up at 9am and we threw my old bedsheet full of henna droppings and then finally, I scraped it all off. I didn’t wash my hands and feet for two days, I had to wear gloves to shower, @stzlaifa shampooed my hair and helped me wash up before I went to bed. It really took a village. And the result was so beautiful, I wanted to cry. The colour, the design, the intricate details, everything was perfect, just the way I imagined it to be. Orang kata, inai gelap mak mentua sayang. My solemnisation outfit. So much history, this one. Let me start from when we bought the material. I bought it in Bandung in Nov’18. I was on vacation with my mum and we were shopping for our raya outfits. We were looking around, the next thing I knew my mum was forcing me to choose something from the bridal section. I almost threw a fit. I couldn’t choose. I wanted to cry (apahal cengeng). I wasn’t ready to get married, we haven’t discussed about getting married. I needed more time to decide. I needed to visualise the design. But in the end, I chose. About a week after I returned to sg, @iftiqal proposed (again, apahal cengeng last last kahwin jugak). Inspiration for the outfit came from various sources. I picked three celebrities’s wedding outfits to incorporate their style into mine: Tunku Tun Aminah, Scha Alyahya, Izara Aishah. But most of all, I wanted a very traditional look ala wanita melayu terakhir or in this case, Lat the kampung boy(girl) 😝 Found a tailor just 4 months before the wedding (beli kain 1 year in advance tapi nak jahit last minute 😅). Best decision I ever made. She listened to my ideas, she elaborated on my ideas and made sure I was okay with it. Every single detail on the outfit was amazing. Our dais. Another one that doesn’t deserve to be ignored, yet we don’t have a full picture of it 😅Everything got our face HAHAHAHA The first time I saw the dais was when I walked into the hall on our wedding day. I remember feeling all kinds of excitement and awe and like “oh my god yes they did it!” But of course I had to keep it in and act vogue and demure 🤪 The first and only time I spoke to the decor team was ten days before. Ifix left all the decisions to me. I told them “I want it to be big to fit our families. I want minimal flowers. I want space for people to stand. No flowers in the way.” (I sound very anti-flowers, I’m really not I swear) I wanted big, they gave me big, huge to be honest. It was so high macam singgahsana sultan that kind. I wanted less flowers, they gave me that. They put flowers at the bottom, at hidden places, they put it out of the way just the way I like it. As I count down the days to our first anniversary, I’ve decided to post some of my favourite highlights of the wedding. I feel like I haven’t done much justice to my cake cause these are the only photos I have of it 😅 I remember being super excited about the cake when they were setting it up and I was on the dais after nikah, serious punya tak sabar hahaha. I designed it from scratch, each tier was picked from different inspirations, we superimposed it together before deciding this is it, and of course, it’s done by my favourite baker. It has been 11 days since you left us for the better world. Things will never be the same without you. Just like how life changed after Nyai left, this time is no different. Saying “I miss you” is an understatement but I pray you will find eternal happiness when you meet the love of your life over on the other side.
