Yes, and I’m with you on the basis that it would be beneficial but I’m not sure that it would be a possibility given the safety requirements of the school. But I think it’s worth a discussion. And you’re right, there isn’t anything I can do to prepare anyone for the real thing but a good amount of training does kick in nevertheless. I appreciate your input, honestly. I’m always open to suggestions. Ah, see, I try very hard to be modest. I can get just as brash and arrogant as anyone else, don’t let me fool you, but I do try to keep that to a minimum if I can help it. I don’t mind the lake nor water in general, but if I am outside I prefer the greenery. That’s all fair, it isn’t as if playing is a requirement. Just curious.

You’re welcome. That’s a brilliant idea, my only dilemma comes from the fact that I don’t want to frighten anyone. I’m only offering defense mechanisms and yes, we do actually practice the spells in mock duels, I think that’s important, but I think the extremity of it may offer too high of a risk that someone may actually get hurt. I know what’s out there, and I don’t believe for a second that anyone in the club isn’t taking it seriously but on the other hand, I’m only looking for them to be on their guard. I’m sorry, hah! I thought I had a point but apparently I don’t. For those of us overage or with parental consent, it wouldn’t be a bad idea. I’ll think on it, try and remember why I thought it couldn’t be a good choice three seconds ago and run it by Professor Dumbledore. You know, if you inflate a Gryffindor’s head more than it already is it’s bound to be irreversible. I appreciate all of that but to be fair I was approached about the position rather than offering myself up. I could’ve always handled my balance much better and the list goes on, but I am proud to be where I am. Thank you, Cheri. Anyway, I hope you never get placed in that position either. I did not know that, no. The lake isn’t somewhere I’ve found myself often but I’m sure it’s a sight, that’s interesting. Do you play anything in particular or do you sing exclusively?

Hmm... yeah it could be dangerous... but isn't that what you're preparin' em for in the first place? I agree only those of age or with permission should participate for safety reasons. Maybe ya could make up a list of allowed spells to be used too, for extra caution? I just... I think no number of controlled duellin' where you know where your enemy is can help near enough if anyone in the club is plannin' on enterin' the war that's brewin' outside the castle... Anyway, I'm sure ya don't need my input for this, if ya decide to do it. I don't know much about duelin' in the first place. Hah! Well I'm sure there's a spell or two out there to deflate heads if need be. Though I reckon you're too modest to ever need it. Oh, really? Still, that says quite a bit. You're welcome. What? Really? The lakes so relaxin' though! Cept when students are tryina throw one another in the water... Oh, er, well I dunno I've tried a few instruments over the years, but nothing seems to... fit right. Cheri's first ever crush was on Tiberius McLaggen. To this day, Cheri had no idea what caused her to go all moon eyed over the older Hufflepuff boy, perhaps it was his intelligence, his strive to do his best, or something else entirely. All she knew was that for the entirety of her fourth year, every time she thought of Tiberius she'd start singing love songs. She also found herself being even more of a Quidditch enthusiast.

Thankfully, as far as Cheri knows, no one ever found out about this crush.

Right, and it isn’t as if they’re mandatory in the first place. Better to offer. The problem is that it is different. It is controlled, no one is going to hurt anyone, willingly, at least. And there’s no amount of preparing I can give them for how it feels when you aren’t subconsciously aware that the person you’re duelling isn’t going to hurt you. But this is the best I’ve got and I’ll be damned if I don’t give them that over nothing. Anyway, I understand, there isn’t any pressure though I can’t say I’m not glad you didn’t drop Defence. I appreciate that. I don’t much remember when it was that I picked it up; somewhere around fourth year, but I’m glad I did. I can think I don’t need an outlet all I want but that just isn’t true. S’nice. Would you like to get outside for a bit? It isn’t exactly hot but we won’t be freezing either. After class? For the record, I know you don’t mind but I’d prefer it known that you aren’t asked for that reason.

Frank... you're doin' the best that ya can to help 'em, that's all ya can do. Unless ya want to start attackin' the members at random in the corridors for surprise practice. I reckon that's not such a good idea though. Though... I dunno if they do this at the Auror Academy, but maybe... Could ya talk to Professor Dumbledore and see if ya could host a... I don't know the word for it. But maybe splitin' the club into two teams, and havin' a section of the castle set up as a pretend battle place? Give 'em hiding spots and home bases... so they can practice like it's a real duel? I reckon most times ya won't really know where the enemy is comin' from in reality. Might give it a more realistic feel? Plus it could be a bit fun as well. Even if that's not possible... which I imagine it probably won't be... you're still doin' more for 'em than classwork would alone. What you're doin' for 'em right now... it might save their lives later. I think that's the important bit to keep in mind. You're doin' somethin' for them that... no one else in the castle stepped up t'do. It's... incredible if I'm honest Frank. Yeah... I reckon one day I'll be glad I didn't as well, though I hope I never get put in a spot where I need anythin' I learned in there. Oh? I'm glad ya picked it up... I think everyone needs somethin' to escape with from their stresses. Even I need a break from singin' once in awhile... it's healthy. And of course, bein' a lover of music, I'll always root for pickin' up some sort of instrument. Oh absolutely! It'd be a shame to miss out on a chance to relax outside with the sun peekin' through and the snow completely melted. And I'll let ya in on a little secret; if ya play music for the giant squid, if he likes what he hears, he'll sometimes make the waves of the lake move t'the music! headcanon 03

Cheri strongly disliked taking Defence Against the Dark Arts. Though she knew the subject was important, especially in times where muggles and wizards were being killed and going missing... she hated it. Her heart was too kind, and whenever she needed to practice a spell on a fellow classmate, she never failed to falter. The idea that she could even accidentally harm someone made Cheri feel horrible, and the few times in her life that she had, she spent far too much time afterwards apologizing for what she'd done. Still, she forced herself to continue with the subject, merely for the sake of learning to protect herself should she ever get in a tight spot.

If she were ever to end up in a serious situation, chances are she'd only ever use shielding spells and maybe expelliarumus. But never anything more harmful.

Well, you’re good at that. I appreciate it. I’ll probably hold two consecutively next month as well, no reason not to. Are you sure you aren’t interested in coming? I wouldn’t ask you to do anything you didn’t see fit but the defense is always beneficial. I’m not sure I could either. In fact, over the years, a true quiet has almost become too quiet. I’ve played, yeah, here and there. I know you enjoy it but I hope you know that you don’t have to sing anywhere. You’re invited to Gryffindor as a friend rather than as the entertainment. Mmm, holdin' two next month might be a good stress reliever for exam time too. I reckon a lot of people need a way to vent out their stress. A good, safe duel would be a good outlet, I'd think, so long as no one gets outta control. Oh Frank... I'd... I'd love to come and all, but I don't think duelin' is really for me. I appreciate the reasonin' behind it and all, but I just... I don't think I could do it. I even almost dropped my defence class this year, actually. I'm glad t'hear it.
