Nikolae smiled at the girl. No one ever wanted to go home. Home wasn’t really a place to go. Out and about was always better. “That’s ok I can just take you floating around the forest for a little while if you would like."

He kept his hand out ready to hug her close and leave the ground with her, his hair floating around his face and getting everywhere. “Yes my dear I am a spirit. The spirit of Freedom."

"Really?" Sophie asked, beaming up at him. She'd noticed everyone she ran into tended to want to take her home; that wasn't very fun in her opinion. "I'd like that!"

She reached out after a moment than, wrapping her hand around his the best she could. Her body suddenly felt weird, just at touching him. Whoa. "The spirit of freedom? That's neat! Are you a Guardian like the Easter Bunny and Jack?"

Nikolae smiled slowly at the little girl and held out his hand. “I can take you home if you would like dear. I can make people float with me." He loved showing little kids his powers and watching their reactions to it.

Slowly he let his feet off the ground as he waited. “It’ll be safe and sound I promise little one."

"Well...I don't want to go home really..." Sophie said, looking at his hand. "But I do wanna float with you. I've never seen anyone who can make other people float!"

She eyed him for a moment, curiosity sparkling in her eyes as she looked back to his out stretched hand. "Are you a spirit?"

Sophie had never been to New York before. It was big and loud and dirty, actually. She wasn't a big fan of it to be honest, but it's where her mother had decided they'd go on a weekend vacation. The little girl and her older brother had both agreed to it, but truly they hadn't known what it expect too much. At least Sophie hadn't.

So, once she got bored on the tour they'd all signed up for, she decided to do a bit of exploring herself.

Walking along one sidewalk, in some district she didn't really know however, she began to wonder how smart she'd been in making the decision to leave her family.

"Mama?" She called out, catching the attention of a few people passing by, but no one stopped to help. Night was falling fast, and Sophie had to admit...she was getting scared. "Mama!"

Nikolae had been floating around looking for his favorite trickster. Finding a small little girl with big green eyes and blond hair in the middle of the forest was not something he thought he would do. Smiling he slowly floated down to her, hoping she could see him so he could get her back home.

"Hello dear." He said, waving a hand in a small arc. “My name is Nikolae, are you lost?"

Sophie spun around, hearing someone's voice behind her. She'd been lost in her thoughts, thinking about her old friends she'd already met. Sadly she hadn't seen a lot of them in a while, but...she'd get to see them again one day.

Her eyes widened slightly, seeing him float down to where she stood. She smiled back up at him. "I'm Sophie, and no, I'm not lost." She answered simply. "Well, okay I might not know how to get home exactly, but I have a good idea 'bout it."

Sophie enjoyed summer, and she enjoyed summer nights even more. Less bugs-well besides mosquitoes-and cooler temperatures. And...more of a chance to run into people of a certain...type.

The five year-old loved meeting spirits, and she'd been told night was indeed the best time to meet them.

She was also told it was best to check the woods by her house for them. And so that is what she did, and what she was doing right now.

Sophie enjoyed meeting new people. You could ask any of her friends and they could easily vouch for her about that. She loved getting to know all kinds of people...even spirits. After all, one of her best friends was indeed one!

So when she came across any sort of person who caught her interest, she would run up to them and say hello, no matter where she was or who she was with.

"Hi!" She beamed up at the stranger. "I'm Sophie! Who are you?"

if you close your eyes right before the train hits, your brain will think that you have died. some people find calmness in this.

okay listen. A train is coming towards you. You close your eyes. The train stops coming towards you. You haven’t died. Your brain is really freaking relieved that the train is not coming towards you anymore. That’s why you feel calm. Brains aren’t so stupid that they think you’ve died just because everything is black. It might have felt a bit stressed by seeing that there is a large vehicle travelling towards you, because sometimes it can have problems with understanding things outside of you and telling what’s real and what isn’t. But your brain perfectly aware that your heart is still beating and your lungs are still breathing and blood is still travelling around your body. That’s it’s job. You don’t feel calm because you “died”, you feel calm because you’re ALIVE.

Can we stop glorifying suicidal thoughts now please?

No matter what happens, you will always have an ancient part right in the middle of your human brain, somewhere that you have no access to, that wants nothing more than for you to stay alive.
