Please like or reblog this post if you’re one of the people who actually still genuinely enjoy the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I’ve seen so much hate and so much disappointement about the latest installments. Some about what Taika Waititi did with Thor, many about what the Russo brothers did with the characters as well as much nostalgia for the whole 2012 Avengers mood and fanfiction tropes (found family, avengers being friends, movie night in the stark tower all of that).

Which I understand.

But, like, personnally i love these movies, even the newer ones. Sure i have my beef with some of them or with some choices the directors of latest movies have made for certain characters. But i still find it super exciting, i still find them super entertaining and I”m still looking forward to the next movies. I didn’t think i would after end game, didn’t really feel motivated to see Far From Home because Avengers really felt like an ending….and yet they still managed to suprise me and get me excited for what comes next !

So I’m tired of seeing all this negativity on my dash, I want to see other fans like me who are still fans and still enjoy seeing these movies!

there’s a few things i want to touch down on here.

first of all, if you don’t know who jim jones is, i want to refer you to this article. jim jones was a cult leader who coerced a mass suicide and mass murder of 918 commune members, 304 of them children, almost all by cyanide-poisoned kool-aid. he made all these people believe that there was no better life out there, and that they would be beter off killing themselves. the actions of this man were disgusting and lead to the greatest loss of american life (until the september 11 attacks on the world trade center). it is also important to mention that 68% of jonestown residents were black, so it’s well known that jim jones was anti-black. check out his wikipedia page for a detailed recounting of all the events that led up to the mass suicide, and what happened afterwards.

now. let’s get to the point.

i’ve seen people on twitter cancel yoongi left and right, calling him a traitor, claiming he’s anti-black, and many other things, all for using a jim jones sample on one of his tracks. i get that people might be upset or outraged when they found out about the sampling, but there’s something you should know. rappers all over the world, no matter their skin color, ethnicity, gender, etc. have been known to sample controversial speeches to rebuke, criticize and mock the speakers. check out this wikipedia page for some examples.

not only was jim jones anti-black, he was also anti-korean. what do you think? is posed as a rhetorical question to westerners who think less of foreign and non-white artists. yoongi is rapping about how he became famous in a white artist dominated music industry, and how westerners feel threatened by that. he included the sample on his track to indirectly compare racist westerners to jim jones. he does not, in any way, condone jim jones’ actions. please check out this twitter thread by user @/TEARPNG.

i also want to ask, you were all so quick to throw yoongi under the bus, but where was the same energy when post malone released beerbongs & bentleys? there is an interlude on that track called ‘jonestown (interlude)’ of which the lyrics are below. post malone receives no criticism over this, but yoongi gets a full wave of hate over him for using a jim jones sample meant to criticize racists?

and it’s not only post malone, there are plenty other artists out there who have referred back to jonestown, or jim jones himself, by sampling it in their lyrics. if you don’t believe me, please click here.

all i’m saying is, y’all are getting your panties up in a twist for nothing. there are far more important things to pay attention to right now. yoongi can wait, innocent black people who are getting killed by supremacist police in the usa cannot.

if only white ppl + nbpoc would spend less time being a performative activist on the internet & more time using their privilege to check and stand up to their racist/antiblack family and friends!! if you dont then youre a part of the problem. rbing a few posts saying you want to see justice and patting yourself on the shoulder bc you think that’s all you should be doing is not going to change anything. do better and be useful - sign petitions, donate to organisations if you have the means, devote your time into spreading awareness, call local governments and don’t speak over black ppl.
