“okay so i was casually seeing this guy…” jesse begins, leaning forward as short locks spilled forward to frame her freckled features, “and no big deal. turns out he was lying to me about seeing other people and fucking half the girls in town. AND he was dating my best friend, like convinced her it was true love and shit and was just lying to all of us. so fuck him. his dick deserves to burn.”

chandler’s nose scrunches, wincing at the idea of hot sauce in an area where sun doesn’t shine, practically feeling it. but more horrified by the bullshit she relays to chandler, brow furrowing. “oh, what a total dick,” she says. “okay, normally, i so don’t condone violence. but that dude sounds like he deserves a taste of his own medicine. fuck that guy.”

       “i’d get it if it was like- an attractive white guy. but they all look like they belong in a charles dickens novel.” hearing the accents he cringes. “i didn’t even look up what they sound like and i refuse. i’d rather listen to the contents of a jar of mayo just- plop on the floor.” he hands his own phone over at the question to let her look. “i’ve got instagram and twitter, now this. though after scrolling for a bit i’m considering throwing my whole phone away.”

“they look like... if cartoon aliens were real human beings,” she says, with  a snort. “but i’m sure a jar of mayo’s gonna be pretty similar to what they sound like. i will say i don’t mind them, but they’re so damn over hyped. and for what?” she takes the phone from him, beginning to scroll through the tumblr, face twisting in reaction to every post she passes. “that seems like a glowing recommendation-- sometimes, i feel like all of this just weighs you down, you know?”

open starter → location; the beach, 11 pm | @wellcliffstarters

noah was no stranger to running on the beach at night. he saw it as a perk of living so close to the coast, so far removed from being inland and feeling trapped. what doesn’t always come easy on no sleep is running on sand, the slippery surface moving more than he could account for. he hit the ground with a soft thud, rolling so he was on his back and looking back up at the stars. and, as luck would have it, another person. “it’s all good, i am no stranger to busting ass.” he laughed, shaking the sand out of his hair as he sat up. 

she’s at her dad’s shack. sometimes, she sleeps there when her aunt and uncle are simply being too much. the sound of the ocean always lulls her. but right now, she’s out front, watching as noah completely eats shit in the sand. she stands up, bounding over to him, peering down with an extended hand. “who is?” she says, sympathetically. “nothing’s broken, right? everything’s intact?”

         “that benedryl cucumber fucker looks like a lizard. how do people find him attractive?” teddy’s brows furrow, having only just landed himself on tumblr due to boredom. “and thumb huddle stone or whatever doesn’t have any lips. i’m losing my damn mind, i shouldn’t have joined this hellsite. it’s all people drooling over skinny white men. gimme a blog thirsting over idris elba or danai gurira, that i understand. do you have- what the fuck is it again-” he pulls out his phone and then shows the other. “tumble or whatever the fuck?” @chvndlermay​

snorting at teddy’s attempt of names, she stirs her coffee, nodding emphatically along to his rant. “because people love to hype up mediocre white people,” she says, with a shrug. “and british accents.” she doesn’t have a tumblr, she doesn’t really want one if that’s all there is on that. so she shakes her head. “don’t really do social media,” she says. instagram, sure, but that’s about it. she doesn’t even have a facebook. who the hell doesn’t have a facebook? “it can’t be all bad, right? what else do you see on there?”

chucksanderson​:

      chuck is in the midst of her revenge, lighting some fire crackers to throw into the rusty orange van that nearly made her crash this morning. while chuck is also guilty of doing the same thing on numerous occasions, having someone nearly send her curbside in her beloved van just rubbed her the the wrong way. so, her plan? to light the fire crackers, throw them into the van and make the guy wet his pants- hopefully. she’s mid-lighting when she spots chandler and immediately hides her contraband behind her back. “heeeeeeeeey, chan-chan, how’s it hanging?” @chvndlermay​

chandler and chuck are certainly an unlikely pair, and usually, chandler’s pretty easy going when it comes to whatever shenanigans chuck’s got going on. she caught her from afar, and curiously, approached her friend to see just what exactly is going on. “chuck,” she says, with a nod, and a quirk of a brow as she tries to lean to see what she’s doing. “whatcha got there?”

“Your job gives you free drinks?” Isaac asked. “You think you could sign me up? I’m going nuts without coffee these days. Why the hell did I decide I shouldn’t have caffeine?”

“yeah, all the free drinks my heart desires,” she says, with a nod, pushing her sunglasses down on her face. “nope. just gonna have to become a barista.” she sips her drink. “i could not tell you that. why did you decide to ban caffeine?”

“Nothing is,” he said, exhaling the smoke out of the open window, away from the blonde. “Sorry. Better get used to it if you’re gonna hang.” Wren nodded at her suggestion, putting the shift into reverse and pulling out of the parking spot. He drove through the lot, looking both ways at the street before beginning towards their destination. “And what are we going to do at this beach?” he asked, perking a brow. 

“i mean, secondhand smoke kills,” she states. she’s not trying to lecture, but really, who smoked cigarettes anymore? the amount of anti-smoking campaigns out here, and all of that, you think people would, dunno, catch on. “as long as you do it away from me, i’m not here to dictate what you do with your life, wren.”  she shrugs, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. “swim? pick up shells? start a small fire? the world is ours.”

“i like lattes, why are you being so judgey?” she quips, with a snort. “and maybe i pump extra lavender into it. is that a crime? really?”

Wren held his hand up in front of the cigarette, lighting it. The two were sat in his car, him in the driver seat, and his current partner in crime beside him. “So, where to next?” He asked, taking the cigarette between his index and middle finger. They’d been driving around for the past few hours, and now it was getting dark. “Anywhere you want.” He cracked a smile, resting his hand on the steering wheel and taking another puff.  

“hey, you know that shit’s not good for you,” she says, leaning back in her seat, her legs stretched out on the dashboard. chandler’s fiddling with the necklace around her neck, waving the smoke away with her free hand. “why not the beach? end it where we started. it’s low tide and everything.”

       teddy is pretty sure he has drank half of the bar which just won’t do. go big or go home and he is well and truly avoiding that latter option. even if he lands his drunken ass in a holding cell for the night. he turns to chandler and grins. “last one to the bar buys the next round of shots.” and because he never plays fair, he pushes chandler slightly to knock off her balance before racing his tipsy as to the bar. @chvndlermay​

she’s on her second beer, but she’s a lightweight as it is, not one to drink a lot, simply socially. but the beers with the previous shots, she’s pretty much flying high. so at his wager, she kicks off her shoes, prepared to take off when she feels his hands shoving her aside. she stumbles and yells after him, and quickly shoots off after him. “not so fast!” she exclaims, sticking a wobbly foot out to trip him as they made their way to the bar.

“does sitting in your pajamas surrounded by empty popcorn bags and your eyes glued to the screen count as partying? if it does, then yeah, i definitely partied too hard last night.” tessa accepted the drink with big smile despite her exhaustion, hugging it close to her chest to appreciate it. “thanks, chandler. i feel like multiple bad decisions have brought me here today, but this drink will remedy some of it. i stayed up all night – literally all night, i haven’t slept – watching dead to me. it’s a wild show, i couldn’t stop myself!”

“oh, totally,” she says, with a snort. “it’s the one with christina applegate and linda cardellini, right?” chandler asks, taking a sip of her own drink. “i mean, i’d stay up for any show with those two, so you’re completely valid. what are you doing today? maybe you can take a nap.”

“He is pretty darn adorable. Can’t blame you for your weakness.” Luca finally stops in front of the pair but the dog doesn’t seem to notice, too blissed out from the tummy rub he was getting from the girl. If he was a human Luca would probably feel jealous at being so readily ignored but could he blame a dog for simply wanting some attention? Of course not. In fact Luca crouched down so he was level with the animal and started to stroke its head, only then seeing a sliver of eye open to check who had joined in on the petting. “Hey bud,” he treated the animal softly before his attention was drawn back to the girl who asked if it was his dog. “Oh no. Just a likeminded soul stuck lingering around these parts of Wellcliff. He keeps showing up around the fishery, I thought someone should probably feed him. He looked a little underweight when we first met. But he’s certainly getting a feed now. Just look at that belly.” No longer could you see hints of ribs or jaw, instead his coat was shiny from all the fish and his belly a little pudgy though not as much as it would be in a minute when Luca gave him some lunch. “You got a dog?”

she grins, and continues her scratching of the tummy. she glances back over at luca, then points with her free hand towards the box in his hand. “is that for him?” she asks, and looks back down at the dog. “he should have a name. even if he doesn’t have a home. he deserves one, you know? just look at that little face.” the dog is shaking his leg at the scratches, and chandler lets out a happy laugh. “he seems to be doing really good. you’re taking good care of him.” shaking her head, quickly, she gives a haphazard shrug. “nah. can’t afford one yet. i would love one eventually, though.”

         “i know people have their shit to deal with, your shit ain’t mine so why should i care, huh?” dark eyes narrow and bash would really love to yell right now but holds it back. he could easily scream for her to fuck off but what would that do? she doesn’t listen to a damn thing he says no matter the volume behind it. so he settles for making his voice level, cold, unnervingly calm. “see, not everything revolves around you. like you said, people have their own shit to deal with so maybe pull your head out of your daddy issue ass and realise no one’s going to drop what they’re doing to help you chase a ghost. i don’t know you, i don’t care about you, and i sure as fuck am not going to waste my time helping you. if your dad wanted to be found don’t you think you would’ve by now? he’s either dead or off in cancun. though i’m pretty sure it’s the former at this rate. have fun searching for a bag of bones.”

she doesn’t understand why this guy has such a stick up his ass, but as he admonishes her, she shrinks back. he’s just telling her things she’s heard before. her dad’s dead. her dad doesn’t want her. and while it takes a lot for chandler to get upset, there’s some things that trigger it immediately. and she’s already trying not to cry thinking about her father. “i don’t think everything revolves around me. i’m well aware you have your own life, your own things, but if you have information, then why in the fuck would you keep that shit to yourself?” she looks him up and down, and scoffs, glancing away. “fine. whatever. i don’t know what made you such an asshole. but maybe try transferring some of that energy of actually doing something fucking nice.”

“fuck society, dude. we should just quit our jobs and build a cabin on the beach together,” stacy suggests, making sure the imprints of her sand angel are just right. “we could, like, totes feed ourselves by fishing and scavenging for fruits in front yards. i think the wartons have an apple tree we could pick from.” imagining the life they could have as beach hermits almost lulls stacy into a comfortable sleep on the sand, but she snaps out of it when chandler mentions perfecting her technique. “what technique, chandler? we’ve just got to move our arms and legs around like we’re doing some jumping jacks. they’re probs going to turn out looking the exact same,” she giggles, sitting up from her spot. she looks back at the impression she’s made and is proud to find that the angel is picture-perfect. “this is totes going on my insta when we’re done! what should the hashtag be? hashtag-bonfire-babes? or hashtag-small-town-living?”

“honestly? that sounds like a dream come fuckin’ true,” she says, neck craning so she can glance over at stacy. her arms and legs still splayed in the sand-- it feels good against her skin, and she doesn’t quite wanna move just yet. “i know how to start fires,” she adds. “our combined skills would make it so easy for us to do this, y’know.” and she means it, too. many a nights been spent with the dream of disappearing to live in the woods, away from civilization. but she thinks she’d miss the beach too much. she holds up a hand, finger pointed, waving it in her face. “shhhh, semantics,” she says, in a hushed tone, but a laugh bubbles from within. she sits up finally, and slowly stands, digging her feet into a sand. “hashtag-wellcliff-well-life, or something dumb all those tourists like to tag when they’re down here. you know, for the hashtag-irony.”

she stands up from her first sand angel to walk up to chandler. this is stacy’s favorite time and place, she can’t remember a year she wasn’t at the bonfire, from the time she was in diapers she watched the fire come to life in a bright, red blaze. chandler was there, too, for the times she can recall. “dude, i know i work next to the beach but working is different from playing. i get to watch tourists munch on hot dogs, when what i really want to do is dig my toes into the sand or whatever,” she lets out a groan into the abyss of the beach. “it’s not like i give a shit, chandler, i’m just saying. i want people to lay off me. i won’t be able to fit this adult expectation everyone has of me,” her words are slurring a bit, but she doesn’t care, guiding chandler to a more quiet area of the beach. she lies down again, splaying her arms and feet out wide. “c’mon, man, make your angel, too.”

“dude, i wish we didn’t have to, like, worry so much about money, and trying to live and stuff,” she says, with a concurring nod. “like i get that, too. every time someone comes in to bean there from the beach, i’m just wishin’ i was in their places.” chandler would spend the entire day just sitting on the beach if she could. but, unfortunately, life has other plans. and if she’s trying to move out of her aunt and uncle’s house, she has to do what she gotta do to get closer to that goal. but that’s not what tonight is about, tonight is having a few drinks with friends and watching the stars on the beach. “i’m not saying you give a shit, i’m saying society gives a shit, you know? and that’s whack. like, let people just fucking be.” she plops down on the sand beside her, arms outstretched, she moves her body in the sand like she’s about to take off, arms and legs sprawled like she’s doing jumping jacks. “i’m working on it. i have to perfect my technique.”
