In an unpredictable city around unpredictable people it wouldn’t be wise to show your discomfort for fear of insulting them.

“I just got here.” You reply stiffly, looking off to the side. “The forest sounds nice. It’s been a while.”

The similarities are uncanny. You don’t want to look at him. You’re already feeling somewhat guilty, but you push that to the back of your mind. There’s nothing to fret over. This was only a quick visit to get the candy cult off your tail.

“It’s bright, here. Noisy.” You speak up and clear your throat. “Tell me what you do here. Who are you? Why me, of all people?”

“That’s just on the other side of the city! Come, come, it’s not too far.” With a gentle tug, you pull on the other to guide him through the city. You point out things like the casino, Jae’s park, the milkshake place you love, Neri’s sweets, Dyl’s studio, your father’s church. All of the fun things around here that could appeal to everybody. That was the joy here. There was always something for someone.

“Hm?” you asked, looking up at him.

“You were invited here by Lee, were you not? Everybody invited gets to have a place here, and we’re not to judge that! Lee saw that you might like this, and, as such, I must give you the grand tour.” He smiled a little bit up at him. “That’s what I do. I’m the tour guide, so to speak. I bring people around here, show them the places and entertain them with my words as I let them pick and choose where to go. I make sure that they love each moment they’re here by bringing them exactly where they want, telling them what they want to hear.”

It only took a few moments to reach the forest, a quiet place at the edge of the city, the lights in the distance and the music just a rumble. “Ah, it’s much better here, I would think! A little privacy.”

It takes you all of ten minutes to reach an adequate spot to launch yourself to another planet. You take one last look at your cellphone and message Kankri a quick reminder of how much you appreciate him caring for the house before you’re zapped into a strange, brightly lit world. The former darkness of your city is now lit up by the bright flashing lights of Glamorrah’s streets, and you’re left with a feeling of vertigo that washes over you nigh-instantly.

Your guides would meet you here, you assumed. You’d better not go anywhere until they arrived. Your head remains on a swivel, ears listening for signs of danger but finding only laughter and bustling conversation. It seemed normal to you, so far. You’re not sure if that was their intention or if you’ve just gotten used to odd sights and sounds such as these over your years of living.

Oh, how excited are you! Someone’s coming to see you! Someone new and interesting and you’re sure to keep them coming back again for days on end! You had to! You had seen his interactions with another alternate of you on the dashboard before. It was interesting to see. How could he talk so casually to you yet so intimately with another. Hm.. A question for later, that’s for sure.

You put on a bright red sweater, fix the clips in your hair and fix the garter and thigh highs you had on. Shoes this time, you have to look fashionable while you’re introducing someone to the beautiful city around you.

You float towards the entrance to the city, seeing one new comer- Ah, he looked nervous. “Oh, DK, darling~” you chime, waving your arm in the air as you move towards him. “I’m so sorry, did I keep you waiting long?” Your voice is like a chime of bells, dripping with sugar. A wink and you slither your arm around his.

“Shall we go? Tell me, are you hungry? Do you prefer water or the gentle breeze of the forest? A quiet park perhaps?”

It’d be more accurate to say I’ve never been. It’s been hard enough to tear myself from my work.

Crowds aren’t exactly my strong suit. I’d much rather spend time somewhere quiet rather than have to deal with the bustle of a busy street. Keeping you waiting isn’t my intention, but maybe I can pull a few strings if I’m promised a quiet place to retreat to. We’ll have to see how things go.
