Forty years ago, the future looked like this Citroën Zabrus Concept, 1986, by Bertone. Designed by Marc Deschamps based on a Citroën BX 4TC homologation special with a 200hp turbocharged 2.1-litre engine driving all four wheels. The wedge-shaped, shooting brake featured scissor doors, swivelling front seats, and an all-LCD monitor display.

Citroën BX 4TC, 1985. A homologation special edition of 200 cars based on the BX Group B rally car which had a long nose because the engine (a turbo-charged version Simca’s Type 180 engine) was mounted longitudinally, unlike in the regular transverse engined BX. The road-legal version had a 200PS version of the rally car’s engine. Citroën only sold 62 road-going 4TCs. Build quality and reliability problems led Citroën to buy back many of these 4TCs for salvage and destruction
