CHAPTER 11 Reflection on: The Digital Self This by far could be the key to unlocking our hidden potentials to showcase our talents or communication skills and get in touch with each other in this world. And most importantly, how we could earn a living and adapt to this pandemic. Within this chapter, I was able to really define what Digital self means. As the idea of the digital self-developed from the original phenomenon of the 'extended self', pioneered by Russell Belk in 1988. ... Our digital possessions such as photos, videos, statuses, texts, and emails are now seen to be significantly important in shaping our digital self. I have absorbed how this chapter explained the role of mobile phones, the internet, and social networking has to do with developing the digital self. And as a Filipino, I have learned and identified the use of digital self in social networking. I also have found out the role of the government, school, and church in the prevention of identity theft, false information, and fake news. This chapter has opened my eyes to help me describe the provisions of the Data Privacy Act of 2012 Short Title. – This Act shall be known as the “Data Privacy Act of 2012”. ... – It is the policy of the State to protect the fundamental human right of privacy, of communication while ensuring the free flow of information to promote innovation and growth.

CHAPTER 10

Reflection on: The Political self

We were not really able to define this as a group, but since I`m fond of politics, this was not an issue for me to be intrigued about this chapter and read further on my own.I have been able to describe the nature, functions, and origins of the political self within this chapter. The self-society dynamic for understanding the nature of Political self: Cognition. emotion and action I also have read about the importance of the role of the family, school, church, peer groups, and media that is crucial in the development of political self.In this chapter, I was also able to determine the importance of social interaction in developing the political self and identify and describe the virtues of theoretical perspectives in the development of political self.

CHAPTER 9 Reflection on: The Spiritual-Self Within this chapter, we have been enlightened on how we could demonstrate our understanding of the spiritual self. The word "spiritual" refers to that core dimension of you - your innermost self - that provides you with a profound sense of who you are, where you came from, where you're going and how you might reach your goal. My group was able to explain the importance of spirituality in one’s life; as to how I was able to discuss how spirituality came into light with Animism and how it is connected to religion as Primal religion.  Animism is the belief that objects, places, and creatures all possess a distinct spiritual essence. That is, self-identity among animists is based on their relationships with others, rather than some distinctive feature of the self. Our group also were keen on describing how spirituality developed in our country and that we analyze how spirituality is associated with our family and culture.

CHAPTER 8

Reflection on: The Material Self

This chapter developed my understanding of the material self; The material self, according to William James, pertains to the objects, places, or even people which have the label “mine”. Such possessions are viewed as extensions of individuals’ identities. For instance, your clothes reflect certain aspects of your personality and you designate them as “my wardrobe”.We also have described our basic components of the material self; which

The material self is comprised of: our body, clothes, immediate family, and home.

The group also discussed the influence of media in people’s acquisition of material possessions and hearing them give their examples always was entertaining and informative. Heart Evangelista or Kris Aquino as our favorite example.

Most importantly; this chapter has developed my qualities to be a wise buyer in the future.

CHAPTER 7 Reflection on: Sexual Self Within the pages of this chapter came about an exciting topic that intrigues all students alike. as we were able to explain the development of sex characteristics and the human reproductive system; we were also excited about distinguishing between attraction, love, and attachment; that leads to how we understand our sexual orientation. The group also identified the causes and consequences of sexually transmitted infections and early pregnancies which is crucial for young men and women like me. With further study upon this topic, since it’s very interesting for me, I have highlighted that  Sexual self-concept refers to the totality of oneself as a sexual being, including positive and negative concepts and feelings. According to theorists, sexual self-concept is described well along three dimensions (Snell & Papini, 1989): sexual self-esteem, sexual depression, and sexual preoccupation. Most importantly we were able to reflect on the importance of contraception and understood further about Reproductive Health Law which is still controversial with young adults.

CHAPTER 6

Reflection about:  The physical Self

By encountering this chapter, I was able to identify the stages of life and the other group online was able to explain the physical changes that occur during each stage:I was able to recognize the contributions of genetic and environmental factors to the physical development of the self: As such that the Physical Self refers to the body, this marvelous container and complex, finely tuned, a machine with which we interface with our environment and fellow beings. 

The Physical Self is the concrete dimension, the tangible aspect of the person that can be directly observed and examined.We also were able to describe as a group what factors affect body image, for example; for children these factors include family environment, ability or disability, the attitudes of peers, social media, cultural background, and more.

Also while examining the impact of culture on our body image, and self we were able to develop an important positive image about our body.

CHAPTER 5

Reflection about: The western and eastern Concepts of self

This chapter brings out how important it is to differentiate and not to be racist about culture. This has brought out my respect for both cultures.Within this chapter after reading further personally, I have found out that  The concept of the self in Western psychology derives primarily from the work of Freud, Jung, and Rogers. ... The Buddhist notion of self circumvents reification, being an impermanent gestalt formed by the interaction of five skandhas or aggregates (form, feelings, perceptions, impulses, consciousness).

Whereas in the West the self is understood primarily as an autonomous ego whose existence is distinct from that of others, in the East, it is often argued there is no meaning of self that is independent of our relations to others. The self is irreducibly social. 

As about Eastern in the abstract. Eastern psychology has conceptualized the self in ways that provide points of correspondence and divergence from Western views. In particular, the Eastern psychological worldview of Buddhism regards the examination of the self as essential for personal growth.

CHAPTER 4

Reflection on : Psychological perspective of the self

This chapter brings somehow an important perspective in my life. As I have been through lots of psychological stress lately, this chapter helped me understand about what I`m going.

How can you understand yourself better if you're not honest with yourself in the first place? Deconstructing those patterns is usually the path to a more forward-thinking and abundant life. 

  The psychology of self is the study of either the cognitive, cognitive or affective representation of one's identity, or the subject of experience. ... All parts of the self enable people to alter, change, add, and modify aspects of themselves in order to gain social acceptance in society.   

In psychology, the notion of the self refers to a person's experience as a single, unitary, autonomous being that is separate from others, experienced with continuity through time and place. The experience of the self includes consciousness of one's physicality as well as one's inner character and emotional life.

CHAPTER 3

Reflection about An Anthropological Conceptualization of Self: The Self as Embedded in Culture.

With this chapter at hand, I was able to recognize what the field of anthropology can contribute to the understanding of the self; how it also advocates an extensive definition of self as the totality of what an organism is physically, biologically, psychologically, socially, and culturally.

I was able to understand how culture and self are complementary concepts: like how  A family's cultural values shape the development of its child's self-concept: Culture shapes how we each see ourselves and others. For example, some cultures prefer children to be quiet and respectful when around adults. Each family influences a child's self-concept within their cultural context.

We were also able to discuss the cultural construction of the self and social identity, and explain the concept of identity struggles in life.

For example; Someone with codependency may rely on others' opinions to form their sense of self.

Someone with depression may falsely believe they are "worthless" or unloved.

Someone with delusions of grandeur might believe they are a spiritual figure or a celebrity. And most importantly, I was able to develop insights on how to achieve a sense of self, situated in multicultural and dynamic situations.

CHAPTER 2 Reflection on Sociological perspective: The Self as a Product of Society Learning this chapter, I was able to recognize what sociology tells about understanding the self and others; I was also able to discuss with my fellow classmates and teachers online how individuals view the self as a product of socialization; we were also able to explain George Herbert’s Mead’s theory of the social self. “ Which explains that one's identity emerges out of external social interactions and internal feelings of oneself. Self is not evident at birth but emerges over time through language, play, and games. The self consists of 'me' and 'I'. “ I also was able to elaborate “the self” as a product of modern postmodern societies.Most importantly, I was able to appreciate my own social experiences that have been particularly helpful in understanding the self.

CHAPTER 1 

Reflection: On the Concept of Self from various Philosophical Perspectives In this chapter, I have learned my role as of philosophy takes its self in understanding the concept of self; I have explored the different concepts of the self from the philosophical perspective of important people; differentiate various concepts of the self and have identified me with similar experiences for growth and development; and I myself have grown keen on developing my own philosophy of the "self"
