âDonât worry about it, I can make it until my shiftâs over and after that I have plenty of time to hibernate for a bit. Thanks though.â He propped his chin up in his hand, elbow on the counter, as he listened. âYeah, alright. I agree on all counts, but honestly I doubt that âsomeoneâ will be me. My slotâs in the middle of the night, and itâs technically a show about herbology,â Not that heâd ever really been able to stick to just talking about plants for the entire time, âso itâs not exactly peopleâs first choice for cutting political commentary. I can drop in something about their bias, and agenda-driven reporting- itâs not as if things havenât skirted around political on the show before.âÂ
Lily chuckled. âOf course you of all people would call sleep hibernate.â She tilted her head to the side. âBut thatâs exactly why itâs perfect! Not many people are listening at that hour so they wonât notice right away. We can sneak in a few things at first, subtly, and then when people start paying attention it can evolve to something else. Think about it, you could both gain audience and make a difference! I mean, itâs a risky idea but I doubt The Prophet will just take you out of the air if you prove youâre making good money or whatever they want from you.â

âItâs not gross,â Fabian testified with a big smile, it was one of their frequent disagreements, one that stretched back to when they first started dating and she was absolutely disgusted to see him saving half a perfectly good pizza to go cold. âI would even argue itâs the best way to eat a pizza,â he concluded, a happy laughter following. âWe can talk, itâs been a while since we caught up with one another. Nothing really, I took a friend back home from a club last night, not like that, she was just really out of it and needed to rest it off.â
Lily rolled her eyes playfully. âWhatever you say. Youâre going to come tell me I was right when an infestation of bugs invades your flat.â She was overreacting, she knew, but she had always teased Fabian that way when it came to his eating habits. Her eyes widened and she beamed, moving closer to him in order to show interest. âYou need to tell me all about it, even if it wasnât like that. Who is she? Do I know her? Do you fancy her? Does she fancy you?â

âIsaac? No way, heâs disgusting. You know Andrew caught Isaac peeing on his desk? At work, some weird marking his territory thing.â She shuddered at the thought. âUgh, youâre so much better company. Whatâs new?â
âWait- what? First, whoâs Andrew and second why would someone ever do that?! Only dogs do that. Bertha thatâs disgusting!â Lily shook her head, still in disbelief. âNothing much. Iâm back to work and my boss is still being insufferable, and I think James is hiding something from me.â

âMedical issues. Apparently a cut off leg can still hurt. Brilliant, right?â he replied from his seat at his desk as he sniffed the bottle she brought him. âWeâre done, thank you. Speak of this to no one.â
Her eyes widened. âOf course a cut off leg can still hurt! Especially if youâre using a replacement!â Lily inhaled and exhaled deeply, getting ready to help. However, her preparation got cut off by him kicking her out of the office. âUhm- Iâm really really sorry about this and I donât think Iâve ever told you this but no. Iâm not going. Iâm officially disobeying your order, yes, and Iâm firm about it.â

âOverreacted! Says the girl that almost dropped dead and was convulsing so hard nobody in the stupid hospital knew what the fuck happened with her or what spell was she hit with, please. Iâll live, Lils, calm the fuck down. I still sleep, just not continuously, itâs cool,â she shrugs, then rolls her eyes. Why wouldnât James meet with whoever the fuck he said he was meeting? The business world is weird like that anyways, itâs a perfectly reasonable excuse! âI donât know, but if he is, donât you think heâs doing that shit himself already? I mean, if he tells you heâs getting back and then he doesnât get recruited, then he has to tell you he didnât, and you know how his ego is. But if he doesnât tell you anything and it doesnât happen, he can just⊠pretend he didnât do it at all,â Marlene nods, trying to follow the logic. Keep Lily away from guessing anything else than Quidditch seems like the best idea anyway. âIâm not, I just said itâs weird, itâs just⊠not suspicious kinda weird, you know? Itâs the regular kind.â
âYouâre supposed to sleep continuously! Ask any healer and they will tell you the same thing.â She rolled her eyes. âFine, perhaps you didnât overreact completely but still you didnât need to take turns to stay with me or whatever. Edgar was wrecked and he got to leave the hospital before I did. Thatâs unfair. My bones werenât broken.â Lily sighed. âYes, I understand he doesnât want to bruise his ego if he doesnât get recruited or something like that but this is a thing he should say his girlfriend! Especially the girlfriend he lives with and the one he accidentally drunk proposed to once!â She huffed. âWhat if he doesnât trust me anymore? I mean, is this a problem? Are we losing communication as a couple? Do we need to talk to someone? Do I need to talk to him about this? Do I need to tell him a secret so he will tell me a secret as well? Oh help, I think Iâm spiralling.â

Millicent smiled slowly as she realized what Lily had said, she had sworn she heard something much more absurd. âOh â Donât be sorry.â she paused. âUhm, let me see.. I got an internship within the Ministry, and a year laterI got a job within the Department of International Magic Cooperation. Through that job I specifically helped the minister with international affairs, and he apparently liked my work and wanted me as his personal secretary. Thatâs truly the short version of the story.â she admitted.Â
Lily nodded, analysing the path Millicent had described in her mind. She made it sound so easy, but there wasnât much she could do stuck with a boss like hers. âHow do you get to specifically help the Minister? I mean, I often talk to the muggle Prime Minister down at Muggle Liaison but that news barely reach the upstairs offices.â
tildenxtoots
Tilden waved a hand vaguely, âTechnically I did sleep for a bit. Doesnât really feel like it though.â He straightened on his seat behind the counter and let out a quiet considering hum, sleepiness momentarily replaced with interest. âThat depends on what you had in mind. Donât get me wrong, the Prophet is almost horrifyingly easy to trash, but Iâm not exactly keen on them getting me fired. Itâd be a fine line.âÂ
âDo you want me to go and get you some coffee? Thereâs a pretty good place nearby. I could go there and back in like two minutes if itâs not too packed.â Lily tilted her head to the side. It was indeed quite the anarchic idea. âNot trash, trash perhaps but getting a little sidetracked of their agenda? They never report the full truth. They are refusing the acknowledge Voldemortâs existence and they trash the Auror department every chance theyâve got, making Rodolphus Lestrange look like an angel on Earth. Someone needs to change that.â

Tilden had only gotten home in time for a two hour power nap after hosting his show at the Wizarding Wireless Network the night before, and so really it was hardly a surprise that he was half asleep where he sat. Blinking furiously, he looked up with a slightly sheepish grin, âSorry, I didnât catch that.âÂ
Lily practically stormed into the apothecary to find Tilden there. She didnât really notice his state at first, but once she didnât get a reply right away, she realised how sleepy he looked. âIâm so sorry. You didnât sleep at all, did you? I was asking if it would be too anarchist of you to trash The Prophet a little bit on your show.â
Her gaze averted from the window in front of her to the individual sitting next to her. She was hardly sure they had intended on talking to her specifically, or she had just heard them wrongly. Whatever words they said, they sounded utterly bizarre. â Excuse me â What did you just say?â
âOh, Iâm terribly sorry.â Lily startled a bit, not wanting to sound rude. âI didnât mean to be that forward. Iâm only asking what you used to do before becoming the Ministerâs secretary because I want to follow a similar path.â
october / hestiaâs tea party
âOoh Iâm so glad you could come!â Hestia gushed. âWhatâs your favourite tea? We can get it prepared for you right now with the help of our magical assistants! I mean theyâre just waiters that parents for the day, but, you know, magical.âÂ
âThank you for inviting us!â Lily smiled, looking around. âThe place looks lovely! I didnât know there were so many variations of tea. Itâs truly wonderful. Perhaps black tea? Or earl grey?â She chuckled. âHonestly, whichever has more caffeine in it.â

âItâs nothing, okay? My schedule got fucked over at St Mungoâs, thatâs all, I didnât want to say because I know youâre going to start giving me some âI told you soâ lecture about how you didnât need a guard dog around you all the time and how I shouldâve gone home from the first day and blah blah blah, so⊠save it. Iâm fine and itâs nothing, itâll go back to normal,â she shrugs stubbornly and then laughs at the cat thing. How funny would it be if he was that smart though? Never worry about your cat again, it feeds itself. Amazing. âOh, theâ wow, thatâs weird, yeah.â Marlene frowns and nods. Shit, couldnât that asshole have changed somewhere else? A lie, she needs a good lie. âMaybe he just wanted to look fancy for the business people or something,â she shrugs, âyou know, so theyâll think heâs professional or whatever and they stop thinking of him as a fucking kid. Maybe. And you know he doesnât want you to know if heâs being insecure about some shit like that because James is⊠well, James. Insecure itâs not his thing, so maybe he was embarrassed.â Thatâs good, right? âI wouldnât worry too much about it, whatâs he gonna do with a fucking suit anyways? Go elope with someone else? As if Iâd let him do that shit, please.â
âThatâs totally not nothing! And Iâm going to say I told you so anyway because you and James were worried over nothing, you overreacted and now itâs taken a toll on your health!â Lily huffed, rolling her eyes. She was going to have to talk about this with James later. Yet another thing to discuss with him. At Marleneâs words, she cocked an eyebrow. It sounded almost as if she was covering for him. âWhy on Earth would Jamesâ boss want him to meet Quidditch people who make business? Wait- do you think heâs trying to play again? Get back in the game? I mean, that would be wonderful but why wouldnât he tell me about it? Itâs not like Iâm going to pressure him or be disappointed if things go wrong.â She frowned. âIt just seems like a ridiculous secret to keep from me.â She crossed her arms. âYes I know heâs not eloping with someone else! But you canât deny the whole thing is weird!âÂ

Despite her reassuring tone, there was still a tint of colour to Fabianâs cheeks. âNo, no, Iâm not worried, I know youâve seen everything, itâs just- well you know,â he laughed self consciously, sitting up straight and closing the lid of the pizza box. âCold pizza is the best, I couldnât think of a better habit to have. You know I eat half of it when itâs hot then put the rest into the fridge so I can eat it cold later? Is that sad?âŠThat sounds sort of sad when said aloud.â Fabian returned a smile, âyou already know that I think youâre the best, it goes without saying.â
Lily offered him a warm smile, because yes, she did know. She would most likely have the same reaction if he had caught her with her hair up, stuffing her face with her motherâs lemon cakes. She laughed. âYes, I did know that, and I still think itâs gross.â There was something about the taste of cold pizza that made her stomach turn upside down. âThank you, I do try.â She batted her eyelashes jokingly and sat back on the sofa. âSo what are we watching? Or are we just going to talk and sit here for a while? Oh! Tell me, did you do something yesterday since today you were off work?â
