Honeypot gets a Teddiursa. The little guy likes hanging out with him because... well, honey. It refuses to try battling with anyone else, so it's never really gonna evolve. Honey doesn't force him into anything, though.

Fuzzy Peas gets a Roserade mainly for... vibes? I was considering Breloom, but I figured Roserade makes for an equally fun consideration. He probably got it from his mom as a Roselia before she ended up passing, I think.

Ant gets this specific Alcremie. I figured something sweet would work due to her picnic theme, so... et voila, baby! Ant's been pals with her ever since she was a Milcery, but only managed to evolve her recently. Like... "a few days before the S13 premiere" recently.

Bat gets a Crobat. Yes, Noibat and Noivern WERE INDEED right there, but I like the idea of Crobat better. Everyone keeps villainising this lady when she's known this guy since he was a Zubat and loved the hell out of him to help him evolve into a Crobat later down the line.

Lastly for now is Space Ranger, who gets a green core Minior!... who he doesn't like. This idiot is the reason he crashed to Earth at all, with the Minior deciding to keep trailing him constantly as if he didn't get SR in trouble to begin with. They do get along. Rarely.

Watch. Season. 8. Of. TMS US. I just remembered that it’s my second favorite season (4 will always have my heart though).

One thing I will say is that Season 8 does what Season 9 did, where most Masks are only on the show for one episode because it’s a King/Queen of the Episode sort of system.

Despite that, I can’t begin to tell you how much fun and personality is inside each costume.

Allow me to sum up the 22 characters here in simple terms and with zero context (this is in elimination order and that’s all I’ll say):

Old man attempts being “hip with the youth” and FUCKING SUCCEEDS

Literally a Monty Python cast member (I say this lovingly)

Listens to dad rock while carrying the folding chairs for his band meetings (he’s in a band with some other Masks in my fic)

Cannot make a decision without consulting The Voices

The fog comes in on little cat feet (reference to a poem but it’s also very fitting for this one)

YAY, SUMMER IS HERE FOR ME!!!

I’m mixing it off by starting my TMS US Season 11 binging over. Trying to watch it over the end of last year didn’t work super well (prolly cause I was in school), so I’m doing it again!

Then I’ll finally get to watching Seasons 12 and 13, and then finish the last 3 episodes of 14 (again, couldn’t bring myself to keep up with it while I was in school).

I will finish this series before they start making new content. And then I will make new content.

this is probably me being biased towards s13 as i'm hyperfixated on that Purple Fucker from it, but i find it to be great fun. i'm hoping you vibe with it!

There's also the odd drawback of masks considering humans to be fucking enigmas. They only show up to them as dark, blurry silhouettes with voices due to their memories surrounding their true real identities (just being celebs in costumes) kinda being snapped out of existence.

And I guess it's also sorta who framed roger rabbit-esqe? in that masks can freely hop in and out of reality and their mask world as they please. keep in mind i've never watched wfrr and may be doing it injustice

There's definitely SOME blood related shit going on between all the monsters who explicitly have monster in their name, methinks. Let me elaborate a bit on the overall monster lore now

I feel like, as a species, Monsters are the type of creature that basically reproduce like cats. Basically, a lot of little guys end up... showing up... at once? In particular, the OG Monster was stuck in the midst of a really big family in the past, so stuff was chaotic.

Until he found TMS! It made him go "That'd be something cool to do to make myself stand out... I just wonder if I can sing." Turns out he COULD, became quite the icon in his family, and thus sparked a few more of his family to try vying for the crown. (golden mask more specifically, sure.)

MSM in particular came from a bit of a weirder situation despite still being part of the ol' Monster bloodline. Like... it took a while for the right people to get together so that he could, well... exist? IDK, look at him compared to OG Monster. Genetic shit HAPPENED here and I honestly highly doubt they have the same parents. (So he's distantly related to the OG somehow. i have joked about another mask being msm's mom solely for the ear factor but that's for another day)

That, and as opposed to being stuck in the middle of a huge family as he grew up, MSM just ended up being an only child instead? Which he did feel slightly awkward about until happening upon cuddle monster (s11) in particular (whom I HC to be msm's less distant cousin), who also had a smaller side of the family where he was from! They get on great and mainly just chill out when they hang out, usually culminating in the vibes being so chill that either one of 'em just passes out at random. gets MSM more rest from this than he'd like to admit

As of the modern day, the OG Monster is honestly quite tempted to meet up with MSM, as it's the first time in a while that someone in the family has gotten so far in the show

and if you're curious about grandpa monster, they... nobody really talks to him anymore except his closest family. he's just a bit of a nutjob.

But yeah, I 100% vibe with this! Excellent energy on both masks. i'm neutral on ant but do like her, and macaron is an underrated queen to me. even if i first went "the fuck is that? i thought you were meant to be a shortcake" and then "actually. you're really cute :D"

(as well as the realisation that s12 and s13's group c are NEARLY identical elimination wise. we have (though this is a bit of a guess as i've yet to watch peanuts night)

- A female, flowery mask showing up second to last in the group's debut and getting eliminated first

- A blue, male mask getting eliminated second

- A feminine mask who was the first one to show up gets eliminated third

- Male, animalistic mask gets second in their respective group. They also have unexpected fun energy

- The last mask to show up in their debut episodes is the one who lasts the longest, as well as having alliterative names to some degree (SS and MSM)

*checks notes* oh boy! time for one of the weirdest collabs this beautiful fandom has ever seen by my own, dumbass hands (spoilers ahead for s13 and s12)

For a TL;DR, Love Live is a Japanese idol anime that focuses on a bunch of high schoolers becoming school idols and navigating life in the most chaotic good lesbian way imaginable while dropping incredible music. 3/4 times this is because of their schools closing down.

And so, I was thinking. TMS has great characters and Love Live has great songs, so... LET'S THROW SHIT AT THE WALL AND SEE WHAT STICKS! (Possible potato image quality and hot takes inbound.)

01 - The S13 Breakaway Trio + Tousou Meiso Mobius Loop

Yeah. That's just what it's called.

I like the concept of the Breakaway Trio a lot! Pearl, 'Razzo and MSM all won the first spot into the Lucky Six in their group finales, with Pearl and MSM doing it AGAIN to get into the proper finale when the semis rolled around. But why Loop? VIBES.

The lore behind it is... something (hard to explain from memory alone), but look at the plus side! You get a fun, sorta swing-jazz song LITERALLY SET IN ITALY with an energy that, to me, encompasses the Breakaway Trio to a T! I imagine them just twirling around and putting on a big, dramatic show just because.

02 - S13 Semifinalists + Dazzling Game

I'll come out and say that I... don't like Handclap as a semifinals song. Gasp. The energy just... doesn't sit right with me? Now, what could replace it... oh! THE SONG FRAMED AS A FIGHT BETWEEN TWO GROUPS IN-ANIME!

Not a harmful one, anyway. But the whole song is high-energy, intense and generally Cool as All Shit to Me. Hashtag this is what the semifinals deserved. (Asides from better in general. I think... I think people don't like it much, but I find it an unintentionally funny episode. Thanks, Coral and MSM.)

03: S12 Group B Finalists + Go Our Way!

So... A, I'm aware I can't draw Bluebell. And B, I don't know how the 60s work / worked. So what do Go Our Way!'s techno, rapid energy have to do with it? Ehh... vibes. Again.

I don't know about this one, to be blunt with you! But these three just strike me as the type to abruptly belt out a song like this to cement their worth and charge forth in the competition. Do you ever think Bluebell hates herself for having to watch Wasp advance and Goo get belled, so she just gets left behind alone.

04: S12 First Boots + Yume No Tobira

I also cannot draw Macaron. Girl I am So Sorry.

With "first boots" referring to each mask to be kicked out of their group first, I realised they're all just really chill. Not a lot of songs are like that... so I settled on this one instead.

It has nice energy! These three are laid-back and mellow, sure, but they still want to chase their dreams the best they can with what they do nowadays. I'm not taking that from 'em.
