“Diaval,” he responded somewhat hollowly. It wasn’t how he intended to introduce himself to anyone, but even the urge to apologize seemed tiresome. Letting it slide would be easier; move forward, stop thinking about it. Besides, the moment she made such a wild guess...
“Thank you,” he responded quietly. Charlotte was turning out to be a good deal like sunshine after a long winter. That in itself was peculiar when they'd only just met. He shook his head slightly, amused. “I don't think I'd have any need for a pet of any sort. I imagine most animals have better things to do than depend on me.” Still, he allowed her to turn his head this way and that without any trouble or questions. It was the continued guessing that made him grin. It felt like betraying the sadness. “You're very good at this. Well, perhaps not so much with the guessing, but... in other respects you've done quite well.”

Diaval opened his mouth to argue, shaking his head, and then finally deciding he could say nothing that would sway her into believing there was nothing to be worried over. “Please don’t. And you can stop looking at me like that as well.”
"Now Diaval you know that I…
“Persistence is one of your prominent qualities,” he stated unenthusiastically. Diaval moved over to her and briefly he reached out as though he might take her hand, but he didn't, he stopped himself from being that friendly with her. “Mistress, really.” His gaze drifted to the side and then the ground. “It's...” No, he wasn't inclined to go about telling her, especially when he was struggling with the notion that she had just said she cared. “Give me my wings and I'll sulk somewhere else until it's passed. That's what you can do.”
"Hello pretty bird"
The raven angled its head, making several pleased chittering sounds before ducking down in the motion of a bow.
The bird edged toward her and then took several hops. It’s neck was stretched out toward her hand, head angled so that one eye could inspect it. The creature chirped as well as any raven could over how pleased it was to be admired. After a moment of studying the girl’s hand, the bird ambled closer to her and stood, waiting and expectant, making the occasional sound – but certainly not explaining himself at all.
Rapunzel watched the bird move closer to her hand. She chuckled lightly and found a small handful of pumpkin seeds from her pocket. “here you go” she offered the raven the seeds in an outstretched hand. “I’m not going to hurt you I promise.” Rapunzel spoke in a gentle voice watching the bird closely.
She'd done a fine job ascertaining exactly what the bird wanted. Since there was nothing she had he wanted to steal, Diaval was pleased to take the offered seeds; one at a time. He stole them from her, cracking them. The raven lifted one leg as though he might try to step up onto her wrist, stopped himself, and simply edged as close to her hand and the seeds as he could get.

me plotting with people i don't know: Hi, I saw you like my post on Tumblr and I was wondering if you wanted to plot?
me plotting with people i do know: whAT UP, LET'S DO A FUCKING THING
◞≪ ▌you never could
c o n t r o l me ▌≫
Do me a favor. Reblog this if you welcome the use of ask memes as icebreakers between characters that have never, or rarely, interacted before.
Zeleka frowned as she saw what she thought was a bird transform in front of her to a man. "How did you do that?"
The question was not something Diaval had expected and he stared at her as though she’d said something quite peculiar. “Because I’m a raven,” he pointed out. Then in hit him: “Oh, you mean the… Magic. I guess that’s the answer.”
"Raven’s aren’t magical." She pointed out walking closer.
Diaval scoffed, eying her. “And how many ravens have you known?”
Zeleka smirked slightly looking quite fascinated. “I saw many from my window.”
“There you go then: you haven’t met nearly enough to determine whether ravens have magical qualities to turn into humans whenever they please.” Really, Diaval was making no effort to hide that he was teasing her because the alternative would be peculiar wouldn’t it? Well, it was already strange.
"Ah but I know that crows reside predominantly in the human’s side of the world and it is very rare to find any magic staying there." She pointed out with a smile.
“Crows,” he repeated with a certain level of distaste that could only be likened to that of a child’s displeasure with anything but sugar for all meals of the day. “Despite common misconception we aren’t all the same. That would be very much like saying all humans are the same or all magical creatures are the same. Crows…” Still, Diaval sighed and conceded only a bit. “But you are correct. Crows and ravens exist mostly with the humans and I have never met any of them with magical properties.”
Zeleka bit her lip slightly at his reaction. “I apologise if I offended you sir I have had limited contact with people, magical raven shape shifters or not.”
Diaval was reduced to sighing, shaking his head faintly. “It’s a common mistake, and perhaps deserved considering how I’ve teased you. I’m every bit the same as the ravens you’ve seen. Nothing remarkable, at least not in the way of magic. My Mistress is somewhat fickle about which shape I take, but the change is her prerogative.”
"Ah so you yourself is not magic but your mistress?"
Diaval nodded once. “There you go. Yes. I'm just the unfortunate bird she happens to abuse with her whims,” he answered cheerfully.
“Yes, I’ve noticed,” Diaval answered flatly. “I also don’t think this is the face of a raven who has lost a puppy.” Always, always with with remarks, even when he was in a state of misery. “I hate dogs, if you’ve forgotten. Poor comparison.” Taking a breath, he shook...

Send one for my muse’s reaction.
"I adore you."
“You are adorable.”
“I’ll protect you with my life.”
“I wish you would notice me and maybe develop feelings for me.”
“A storm is coming.”
“You are cute but we’re not going to be a thing.”
“Can I kiss you?”
“Give me a sign!”
“I want to be your friend.”
“I need you.”
“I hate you!”
“Get over it.”
“That was rude.”
“I’m trying to flirt with you, okay?”
“You are my enemy.”
“I like when you smile.”
Diaval hesitated only a moment before he moved haltingly to sit near her. Between his knees he clasped his hands firmly together and stared forward before his head bowed and he peered down at his wrists. Almost imperceptibly he angled his head enough to see her out of...
“Diaval,” he responded somewhat hollowly. It wasn't how he intended to introduce himself to anyone, but even the urge to apologize seemed tiresome. Letting it slide would be easier; move forward, stop thinking about it. Besides, the moment she made such a wild guess he'd completely forgotten that fleeting instant of self-loathing. His eyebrows were lifted and he nodded vaguely to himself. “Interesting, but not quite the trouble I find myself in. I assure you, I've nothing to do with pigs.” The start of the game was like someone taking a pickaxe to the shadow that loomed over his heart – it suddenly felt as though it wasn't as oppressive. At least for that second. “Do I really look like I'd have a pet pig? That's troubling in itself.”
Zeleka frowned as she saw what she thought was a bird transform in front of her to a man. "How did you do that?"

"Hello pretty bird"
The raven angled its head, making several pleased chittering sounds before ducking down in the motion of a bow.
Chuckling lightly Rapunzel carefully stretched out her hand towards the black bird. “such a handsome bird aren’t you” she cooed at the bird.
The bird edged toward her and then took several hops. It's neck was stretched out toward her hand, head angled so that one eye could inspect it. The creature chirped as well as any raven could over how pleased it was to be admired. After a moment of studying the girl's hand, the bird ambled closer to her and stood, waiting and expectant, making the occasional sound – but certainly not explaining himself at all.
"It’s nothing. Just let it go."
She raised an eyebrow. “Huh. Well, if you’re sure nothing’s bothering you, mister… You just seem a little distressed.”
It was there that Diaval paused and turned back to her. For several seconds…
The girl couldn’t help but feel sympathetic towards the dark haired man. She definitely was familiar with bottling something up and refusing to let it out. She sighed softly. “Alright. If that is what you want…” She turned to leave the man be before looking over her shoulder at him. “Just don’t keep those feelings bottled up for too long. It only makes things worse.”
The advice seemed to make his vision glaze over and his mind go wandering off somewhere. “You're right.” That he'd said anything at all seemed to pull him back to reality if only slightly. “But talking isn't always the answer, is it? Sometimes there isn't an answer.” Oh, he was definitely miserable and wallowing in it. Perhaps he had gone on too long in silence and let the feelings accumulate to their present state.
The suggestion was so generous – or maybe he felt that way because of the state he was in. “I don’t mean to be,” he responded quietly. “I mean, I don’t mean to look so upset.” Even if it was an accurate assessment of his mental well-being. He began what seemed like the...
Diaval hesitated only a moment before he moved haltingly to sit near her. Between his knees he clasped his hands firmly together and stared forward before his head bowed and he peered down at his wrists. Almost imperceptibly he angled his head enough to see her out of the corner of his eye. “Don't all tales of woe stem from heartbreak?” A smile pulled at the corner of his mouth, one that may have been melancholy, but at least sincere.
“Let's make a game of it,” he decided, turning his gaze back down. “At least some good would come of it then. Go on, you guess, I'll let you know if you're right We'll pass the time. Maybe I'll forget the reason it's made me this way. As long as I'm not keeping you from something better.” Diaval sat back, finally, prepared to make an attempt at being sociable and somewhat tolerable.
