Computational Fashion is an Eyebeam initiative bringing together artists, fashion designers, scientists, and technologists to explore emerging ideas and develop new work at the intersection of fashion and technology.

September 12: Moderated by lecturer and designer, Joshua Katcher, this discussion will focus on research and developments in biotechnology and fashion. The diverse roster of panelists will exemplify textile, garment and jewelry designs employing concepts like biomateriaility, sustainability and ethics in fashion production. How is biofabrication currently being explored and reimagined through experiential applications on the body and clothing?

September 10: For the final week of the Making Patterns exhibition at South Street Seaport's Culture District, Eyebeam and Shapeways present a new collection of 3D-printed fashion garments that emerged from this year'sComputational Fashion Master Class.  Come see this final addition to the show showcasing the most current advances in 3D-printed fashion design.

August 29: Join former Eyebeam Computational Fashion Fellow Kaho Abe to playtest Hotaru Prototype #2, a two-person cooperative wearable playful experience. This is the continuation of Kaho's exploration into Costumes as Game Controllers with Hotaru. A playtest is a chance to beta test this game in progress and provide feedback directly to the artist.

Moderated by writer Joanne McNeil, this discussion focuses on fashion accessories and garments that counter oppression, harassment, and surveillance through technology and speculative design. How might clothing and adornment become the first line of resistance and a way to shift the power dynamic?

This workshop will show you how create a circuit on your arms and hands with this unique material.  Then use hand gestures to manipulate computers and interact with the digital world.

The Demo Night: Sound + Textiles invited a round of designers based in NYC to present their innovative work in textile design and apparel development that employs sound environments. The event was an open forum for the public to engage with the designers, and to experience firsthand with the projects. We had a great round of incredible presenters this past Wednesday, and thank you to all who presented and attended the event!

August 16, 2015: Learn how to create generative clothing patterns with open source software! The instructors will provide a conceptual introduction to generative and parametric clothing design, as well as basic programming techniques. This workshop is presented as part of the 'Making Patterns' exhibit showing at 117 Beekman Street.

August 1, 2015: Learn how to bling up your fashion in this Intro to Soft Circuits! Using conductive materials, fabrics, and sewable LED lights you will design and sew a wearable light circuit accessory to take home at the end of the workshop. This workshop is presented as part of the 'Making Patterns' exhibit showing at 117 Beekman Street.

Eyebeam’s first exhibition at The Seaport features garments developed by multidisciplinary teams using a combination of new techniques and traditional craft. Many of the artists, technologists and designers involved have found novel ways to externalize our inner feelings. Their work will help shape a future in which our deepest selves can be worn on the surface of our bodies.
