Why I liked It: A Recap: Wayward Pines Episode 3
“Why I liked it” is Leslie’s defense on why she likes things. She likes most things. Dumb things are still entertaining to her. Please, enjoy liking these things with her. Life is more fun when you enjoy pop culture instead of hating on it!
Welcome to Wayward Pines Recap of Episode 3! Have someone read this to you while you close your eyes and go on a journey. A journey in….Wayward Pines…..
Episode 3 starts with a voiceover and a fairytale that goes like this: They froze a baby in the past…this baby is very important, it’s Jason Higgins! It’s the new leader! They raised a baby in the future to be their future leader!
We’re back to the present. There are teenage military roaming around the forests looking for Abbies and they find a deer. They’re pretty surprised and happy. (You know, in all these futuristic sci-fi shows the animals seem to be doing just fine. I would like to be an animal when the apocalypse happens.)
After all this hunting they have assumed that the Abbies have disappeared! For good?
Then we see that Yedlin is still pretty upset and is trying to get information out of his wife. Basically because he was unfrozen and never told what was going on. And she says “Sometimes you just have to stop asking questions” - yeah, and then we have no show. DUDE.
Cut to Jason walking around a corner and …..OOOOOOOOOOO The Nurse is baaaack! Remember Nurse Pam? She was the one who killed Pilcher (the leader in Season 1 and her brother) at the very end. And they froze her again to punish her. Well she’s back!
They flashback to when Jason was a kid and she’s acting as Jason’s mom! And he’s known only this world!! And he’s had that 50s haircut since he was a baby!
How did she get unfrozen? It looks like Jason unfroze her. Kept her in a secret house.
Now that she’s back Jason and his military bring her to the center of the town. (I’m gonna say it. Why does the Wayward Pines military look like the Hitler youth?) Jason asks for the town to forgive Nurse Pam and everyone cheers by doing the opening of rock, paper, scissors. You know, the “fist to hand” type of movement. That’s just a weird cheer. Who came up with that cheer?
Now Nurse Pam is back in the hospital working and sneaks into Doctor Yedlins office. But he sees her and sneaks up on her. BOOM! Nurse Pam and Doctor Yedlin have a battle of WITS. She insults his sexual prowess! He glares at her! She acts casual! He leaves! She steals needles filled with stuff!
This episode has to be about why Jason is a dick. Right? Cause he’s the only one that was raised with the knowledge of the planet? And the man was keeping him down? Because now we’re in the past when Jason was at his birthday party and he’s mad because all his friends were children that were frozen in the past and woken in the future. And the Teacher comes to talk with him because he’s mad and we just gloss over the fact that Pam and Pilcher weren’t his real parents so WHO are his real parents did they just steal a baby and freeze it?!
Back to the present we get to see creepy Teach pairing up children to make babies. And she just called a period: “your blooming”. I don’t….I just…can’t.
Thank goodness that last scene is very short. We’re back with Nurse Pam. And she has snuck into the main building where she killed her brother. She’s up to something. She walks into an area where they are keeping some Abbies alive, and steals some vials of liquid! AND LO the now-paralyzed Teacher is here! How is she everywhere!? Turns out she works in the Abbie area. Looking for the Abbies weakspots. So part of her job is to get kids to procreate and the other is to study Abbies?
Now Nurse Pam and the Teacher get to have a matching of the WITS. Nurse Pam insults the fact that the Teacher is paralyzed! Nurse Pam feigns sadness about killing her brother! The Teacher wheels towards the nurse powerfully and chases her out! The Abbie screams! Probably because it’s hungry!
Back in Yedlin’s life, he arrives at his wife’s barber shop to get a haircut. Confronts her about her missing wedding ring while she holds a razor. Yeah, that’s pretty smart. “Sometimes you’ve got to stop asking questions” especially around razors.
Nurse Pam walks back to her house where she was being kept secret, except not so secret because kids are there and they’re graffiting “Murderer” on her wall.
This whole time I thought she was stealing the medicine to unfreeze people she wanted to unfreeze, but it turns out it’s for herself!? She lays out a dress and starts to get the needle ready, but who do we see in the window? YEDLIN. HE KNOWS WHERE SHE LIVES.
Yedlin has the worst excuse why he’s there and guilts her to let him in. He literally wastes no time to confront her about all the things! And they have a matching of the WITS! He says “You killed your brother!” She says “yeah, I did!” He goes “Why did you choose my wife as well as me!?” She says “Hell nah, get out of here!” And he leaves! And she shoots up what I can only think is …morphine!? Man, first the Abbies and now we have drug addiction? Come on.
Ok we find out that “Fariola major” (I only heard him say it once) is missing from the drug cabinet.
Cut to Jason meeting with some other leaders when Nurse Pam walks in. She is Hiiiiiiigh. She gives Jason a motherly kiss.
Now YEDLIN comes in?! Tells everyone to not touch anything! The Teacher wheels in! You guys I don’t think it’s morphine!
OH daaaaamn, “Fariola major” is SMALLPOX! Damn bitch! And she went into the room where Jason is and kissed him!?
Turns out Nurse Pam is going to end Wayward Pines in a foxy ass red dress. She’s realized everyone has gone insane and so she’s going to give them smallpox. Because she wanted a peaceful town not a murdering town. “This isn’t how we raised you Jason!”
Jason tells them to “Take her away”.
We flash back and see the moment when she realizes that she raised a MONSTER. Isn’t that always the way.
Oooo I like this Nurse Pam. She’s like “There is no humanity in murder”. And she tried to smallpox everyone! This scene is also when we find out that Nurse Pam is Jason’s real mom!
We also find out that, unfortunately, she was still in the smallpox incubation period so she didn’t infect anyone. Pff.
Nurse Pams life ends with the fairytale of Jason, him asking “How does this end” as they walk together in a dark forest. And her starting to tell him a beautiful tale of - OH WAIT he strangles her to death.
He looks pretty upset about it back in his house, but in true man fashion he buries it deep down inside.
Yedlin is showing that he’s pretty upset though. And has every right to be seeing as he’s still pretty new to all of this. Also it turns out that hey, freezing people really EFFED with other peoples lives. i.e Yedlins father who was probably waiting for him at the bar they met at every Thursday. What happened when he didn’t show up? Hmm? Guys? Did you ever think of that?
In our closing scene, some beautiful classical piano music plays we see them burning Nurse Pams body as the Crop Master looks on menacingly…
NEXT WEEK: a Bearded Hobo enters Wayward Pines!
