Hi, just wanted to drop in and say I love your art and the opinions you share!! You have a ton of skill + it shows in every piece you make. and I wanted to personally thank you for your drawing of Bessie. Idk what it is exactly but u captured the essence of a great character. Holy SHIT I just love that drawing

😳😳 wait wait wait stop i love you. i’m so glad you like my bessie design. i really like ugly, coarse, and semi violent women and you don’t really find that sort of character in media often. sadie is somewhat that way but very traditionally pretty and her aggression is driven by trauma. i love sadie though don’t get me wrong. grimshaw is also that way but she’s sort of abusive which ruins it for me personally. i think bessie is a harsh person in a harsh environment but she can still be gentle. and it really warms my heart to think that that was the wife hosea loved so much. because in my opinion bessie and the loss of her informed his in game personality more than anything else

@herrstrauss Oh hey, it was me who sent this ask!  Thank you so much for your response, it was super thoughtful!  I was very happy to read it :) not only did you capture a lot of my feelings on the representation of women in this game, but you also gave this sweet thought on what the core of Bessie’s character could have been.  This allows me to see Hosea in a new way, too :)

I find that women in movies, games, art, etc, are so often “idealized” into nothingness.  Or in some way, not given the justice of being represented as how women are in real life.  So it just makes my heart sing when I see art like yours!!
