Y’know, I was unbelievably hesitant to show this, but here’s something I made in a combination of MS Paint, Paint Tool SAI, and Photoshop CS6.

It isn’t the best I could’ve done, but it’s certainly a massive improvement over my old methods.

I pretty much took sprites from Sonic Mania, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and a Metal Sonic sprite from Sonic CD which I used as the base for my character’s pose in the image.

🌀- Leaping out of his Dimension Ring, the canine skidded to a stop, Spirit Stone in hand. He then looked around, tossing the gemstone up and down repeatedly, wondering if anyone was around. He looked up just in time to see a few flickies fly overhead before he just decided to sit down for a bit on the edge of the pathway, looking out at a good amount of Green Hill from here.

cyclone-mobian (⛈)* 🌀- Dust ran over to Tails, creating a distortion above him to keep any more rain from falling on the vulpine. "What're you doing out here kid?!" he quickly asked, worry in his normally cold tone. Despite being a devourer of entire universes, he couldn't just leave a child to get a cold, alone in the rain.

[💎] The shivering and soaked fox kit looked up at Dust once he appeared before him, stopping anymore rain from hitting his already rain-soaked fur.

“I-I was c-chasing Robotnik when t-the storm h-hit…”

It had came out of nowhere, leaving little time for the tiny vulpine to react to it in a better fashion of finding shelter.

🌀- Dust quickly tried to find a good place for the vulpine to take shelter, however when he found none, he shook his head and gave a sigh. “I don’t usually let people into my dimension, but I’m not just gonna let you get sick because of this weather. Believe me, having things like colds and whatnot aren’t very fun...”

It just didn't make any sense... Seeing someone down below, he landed on one of the higher platforms to avoid suspicion to the best of his ability before leaping down, landing on the grass without even a scratch. He had to praise the lack of fall damage in this dimension sometimes...

The place looked a bit different than how he last remembered it, but maybe it was all thanks to that Phantom Ruby and all the time warping it had caused. It was worth checking out at the very least and to see if Robotnik wasn’t up to anything again.

[💎] For some strange reason, that actually made a bit of sense to him. Weirder things that happened after all. Tails twitched an ear, looking at the gemstone the canine had pulled out. It looked different than the Chaos Emeralds, Super Emeralds, the Master Emerald, even the Phantom Ruby itself. It wasn’t like anything the kit had seen before and it allowed the newcomer to create those rings that allowed him to travel anywhere?

“Whoa. That’s pretty cool.”

🌀- He nodded. “Though of course, the key lies within me, as my life force is eternally bound to this gemstone. And as such, if it were to break, I’d be able to detect the pieces, wherever and whenever they may be.” The canine looked at the vulpine again, putting the jagged stone away. “Anyway, enough of my ramblings. I haven’t even introduced myself!” He gave a quick bow, like what a royal would do. “I am Dustin, one of the deities that protects the flow of reality.”

🌀- He snapped his fingers and suddenly a patch of water appeared in the dunes at the top of the sandfalls, though only for a brief moment, before it vanished. “My jurisdiction is reality itself. Time, space, matter… You name it, and as long as I’m in Aurora, I can warp it.”

🌀- “Well, alright. I suppose you should know what that was just now at the very least. I call it a Dimension Ring, and it’s pretty much a pocket dimension that I can use to travel any distance, short, long, or even across entire universes.” He pulled out a jagged dark purple gemstone. It had a vastly different energy than the Chaos Emeralds, Super Emeralds, and even the Master Emerald and Phantom Ruby. It was in a category all by itself, which is due to the fact it isn’t even supposed to be here... “And this is what allows me to create them.”

🌀- ‘Well screw me sideways and call me Mike.’ “Uh... I suppose that you’re expecting an explanation of some sort?...” He scratched the back of his head, looking at the dunes where crystal blue water used to be.

Good thing his status as a cosmic deity also prevented permanent blindness from looking at the sun.

🌀- Dust looked down at Tails, deciding to go down using his Dimension Ring. Summoning the dark blue ring out of thin air, he quickly leapt through it. However, what he didn’t anticipate was the other Dimension Ring appearing only a short distance away from Tails. He didn’t really have all that much control over his Dimension Rings yet, due to his lack of experience.
