Despite the panic all around them, Chung-ho seemed relatively calm. Uncomfortable, sure. Frustrated, definitely. But not caught up in the same life-or-death scenario that the rest of them had been flung into. Maybe later on it would make him pause and think, but for the moment, his instincts told him that helping was the right thing to do. They could finish up the wires here and then make their way to the reactor. “It is loud, isn’t it?” he mused, slipping further into the room and taking a seat near the other crewmate. “Here, let me take a look. What’s got you all tangled up?” He paused, noting the literal tangle. “Oh, well… yeah, that’ll do it. Were they like this when you got here?”
The young man sighed as he let go of the wires to cover his ears with his hands. Fixing wires was harder than he would have liked, and Chung-ho was finding it hard to focus on anything with the sirens going off. At the question though, the botanist’s face flushed up a soft shade of pink, clearly embarrassed at the truth. “...N-No... they just... ended up like that,” Chung-ho mumbled, avoiding the other man’s gaze. He didn’t really want to admit that he made a problem worse, but who expected him to know how to fix this sort of stuff? There had to be some consideration when it came to effort, right? “W-What do you do with them?”
there were only so many things dan could focus on at one time, and unfortunately, the impending disaster meant there was too much to deal with. he barely knew how he’d stumbled into electrical ( must have autopiloted through storage ) but he did know that the first thing he saw was… well, a mess. “uh, hey,” he started, eyes flitting between the figure sitting on the floor and the tangled web of wires he’d been working with. “you… need a little help there?” sure, there were bigger concerns aboard the ship, but… one thing at time.
His frustrations were pulled to the voice of a man behind him, Chung-ho turning to stare at Dan walking up behind him. He furrowed his brows, a visible scowl and pout on his face as he gestured towards the wires in his lap. “It’s not working...” the botanist mumbled as he tried fiddling with two ends. Chung-ho let out an exasperated sigh as he patted the ground next to him, gesturing for the other man to join him. “I don’t know how to fix this. And it’s loud,” he said quietly, his face scrunched in mild pain at the blaring noises.
Chung-ho stared at the panel with a mixture of confusion and frustration on his face. The young man scowled as he tugged at the multi-colored wires, examining them as if he knew what he was supposed to be doing in this situation. He could hear the alarms starting to blare, which only made the botanist want to drop what he was doing to clamp his ears. The sound was so loud and jarring, and Chung-ho would do anything to just return to his quiet greenhouse. The young man failed to realize he wasn’t the only one in the electrical room as he sat cross-legged on the floor, wires strewn in his lap. He could only hope that he could fix this quickly so he could deal with the blaring sounds later.
Sitting at his chair, Chung-ho was busy wiping away some condensation on his helmet, the air in the greenhouse a bit more humid than usual today. The quiet xenobotanist didn’t expect at company while he working, enjoying the nice comfort the empty air gave him. His dark eyes flicked up the instant he heard the door to his lab opening. Lips pursing together, Chung-ho stared at the newcomer with a curious expression on his face, as if asking them why they were there.
( lee ho-seok, cis male, he/him ) see them in the CYAN suit? that’s CHUNG-HO YUN-REYNOLDS, the TWENTY-EIGHT year old XENOBOTANIST that works in O2. i’ve heard they have a penchant for STARGAZING and a burning hatred of SOUR FOOD. on their good days, they’re known to be EMPATHETIC and KIND-HEARTED, but watch out… when things get bad, they can get CLOSED-OFF and PASSIVE AGGRESSIVE. think they can be trusted?
- chung-ho was adopted at a young age, being brought over from korea as a child to be adopted into the reynolds family. his parents allowed him to keep his name, trying to support the young boy so that he never lost that part of his identity.
- he found himself always drawn to plants, taking a particular liking to how peaceful he felt when he was surrounded in nature. chung-ho asked for his parents to let him grow a small garden in their backyard, taking care of the small crops that grew in his little plot of land.
- his childhood and younger years were nothing significant to him, chung-ho tending to keep himself in background. if he could have it his way, he wouldn’t have even gone to schooling. part of him always wished that he could grow up to live a simple life, just farming and having a partner to be happy with him and his crops.
- deciding to go to college was a bit of stretch, since his family wasn’t exactly the wealthiest. chung-ho found his way around though, managing to scrap up enough money and withdrawing loans to let him attend a university. it wasn’t the most prestigious in the world, but that only motivated him to do the best he could.
- it was no surprise when chung-ho decided to study biology, his focus specifically on plants and the discovery of their different beneficial characteristics. during his time researching under his professor, the young man found that there was more to just growing plants and caring for them. if he could use his knowledge of plants to benefit others, then people would surely appreciate them the same way he did.
- his time in between his graduation and accepting the job as a xenobotanist on the genesis is left unknown. chung-ho did various jobs here and there, some as research, some working in the industry as a consultant, others just sparse jobs to make up for his education debts. to him, joining the expedition was his escape from a life that was feeling too mediocre to him.
- he finds that his strongest suit is listening to others. chung-ho finds that he doesn’t have many words to say. coupled by people often assuming that he cannot speak fluent english, the large man prefers that assumption instead of having people wanting him to talk more than he should. often times, people may mistake him as mute due to his unwillingness to talk in situations, even keeping his helmet on so he doesn’t have to make eye contact with people when they speak with him.
- chung-ho is fiercely defensive of the plants he cares for in the oxygen room, caring for the ones used for their food supply, but also for the ones he is researching about the charybdis. while he doesn’t mind company, he’s often uncomfortable by other people in his lab space, fearful that they may disturb his work, or worse, harm the plants to an unchangeable situation.
- he can often be caught outside of work just relaxing in silence, gazing out of the space windows or eating ice cream in a corner of the ship. despite his large, tall frame, chung-ho is still a child at heart, fascinated by the wonders that come from their exploration.
