Howl Pendragon, if I rightly remember, is originally from Wales on Earth. He made his way through a magic portal to where the books and movie is set. (He was still a wizard on Earth). I hope this answers that question. Sophie is from Ingary - the place/country where the book and movie is set.

aaah hi! would you happen to know what race sophie and howl are in howls moving castle ? in the book it's based on, sophie is a redhead and the signs in the film are in english so i think they're european / white....but i'm not sure? do you have any idea?

Hello! As far as I know, the story took place in the land of Ingary, which is purely fictional. Appearance-wise, they are likely can be considered to be in a European country in war in the mid 1900s or so.
