Now that the holidays are over I can share of few of the items I custom made for my customers. I absolutely LOVED creating this one. The original artwork was created by a little boy name Jonah (age 6). As you can see this child has a lot of talent and this stuffie was just complete fun. I tried to stay as true as possible to the colors and shapes in the drawing. What do you think?

This bedroom is beautiful but I really think it could benefit from a splash of color. Maybe a quilt, throw or tapestry in a complimentary color. What colors do you think would look good in this bedroom decor? (Opinion and reblog by Benita of daisymaydays.com and may not reflect the opinion of the original poster)
Sew what to do now?

I still can't believe it but I finished up all my custom orders due by Christmas yesterday. The last one ships today. I have especially loved these custom orders this year. I have made memory quilts, memory pillows, and stuffies created from childrens artwork. It has been awesome and I have loved every minute of it.. All of these custom orders do my heart good. I take extra care when creating them. After all, I have been entrusted to create something so personal and meaningful and take that very seriously. I put my best into each and every one of them and I really hope they are loved treasures for many years to come. So what to do now? Ok, ok, I always have a list of projects to work on. But after the rush to complete Christmas orders I really need to clean and re-organize my studio. So I have decided to do that. along with catching up with the "boring" side of having a studio (bookkeeping and paperwork stacked high on my desk! Yikes). I am, however, going to work on a couple of small projects. Yeah, you know I can't stay away from the easel and sewing machine until the end of the month! The pic you see is my current small project. I have some really interesting fabrics that I am unsure of. All I really know about them are that they have interesting prints and they appear to be 100% cotton. I work a lot with cotton so I am pretty sure these are completely cotton. These originally came from an estate sale so I don't really know how old they are but they are in great shape and the fabric is still stable. I did manage to get some vintage fabrics from this same source so it's possible these are also. I only have a small amount of these fabrics and the prints seemed perfect for potholders so that is what they are morphing into. Even after cutting for the potholders though I still had fabric leftover so I am also making fabric coasters and gift tags with it. So far these have been great to work with. The potholders are made with two different fabrics, one for the front and one for the back, cotton batting and insul-bright. The insul-bright will make them much more functional as it will divert the heat away from the hands when using them. I haven't worked with insul-bright much and was worried about quilting it but it quilted quite nicely. I will be sharing the finished product in a few days but I have actually considered offering items like these at a discount if they are purchased before I finish them. Just a thought and I still haven't decided if its a good idea or not yet. Happy Holidays to Everyone! Be sure to join my mailing list or add my etsy store to your favorites. I don't send out a ton of emails and you will be notified whenever there is anything new to share.
Oops... Interesting Mistakes
(Reblog from a blog that would not export)
I have been working on a lot of custom orders so I haven't been sharing much on my blog. Since most of the custom orders are gifts I can't reallly share them until after the holidays. I am such a visual person I communicate better with images so its difficult for me to blog when I can't include photos of what I am working on.
So today I was working on custom orders and a little accounting too. I finished up an order and got it on its way and decided to make a few tags. I make my own tags for my quilts when they are on display. I don't like the permanently sewn in type so these are the kind that attach. Well, sometimes I like to just let go and sew and let it be whatever it wants to be. Tags are perfect for that because they are small and I can experiment a little or just play with my decorative stitches. But just like every other artist out there... I make mistakes. Today I made a few.
Luckily they were just tags. But as I was looking at them I thought "you know, mistakes make some handmades interesting". And I thought these tags kind of were. They are made with vintage fabrics and I left the edges raw. Despite the oops! I think they are nice. So I put them in my store for sale.
Check out the quilted tags I made.
What do you think?
Little Bird, Little Bird
(I am in the process of moving all blog posts here. This is a repost of a blog that would not export)
Can you believe there are just a few more weeks left until Christmas? Me either! Seems like everyone is scrambling to get things done and my little studio is no exception. I have tons of new items to list in my store and I'm up to my eyeballs in custom orders. Life is good.
Sooo.... in the middle of all this controlled mayhem I managed to complete the Little Bird baby quilt. As I write this it is in my shiny new washing machine swishing away in a little all natural laundry detergent getting that wonderful puffy quilted look. I have to say I really, really love this quilt. It is not perfect and I think I may like the imperfections best of all! It has a modern look combined with all the little imperfections that make handmade items so unique and, well, wonderful!
Today I added an extra wide binding to the quilt before I put it in to wash. I always machine stitch binding on childrens quilts because they are often well used and the machine stitches hold up a little better to multiple washes and rowdy children. lol I also did the binding a little different than I usually do. The quilting on this one is a series of (somewhat) random organic lines. There is a little method to the madness in the organic quilting lines but for the most part they are fairly random. So I put the binding stitching on the top of the quilt and used a contrasting thread. Because they are machine stitched the threads show through onto the back and I purposely didnt' try to hard for perfection. And I love it!
So this quilt will be offered for sale soon! If you are interested be sure to subscribe to my store updates or follow me on etsy!

Back of the baby quilt I'm currently working on. I am thinking about putting this one for sale before it's finished.
