you wouldn't download a cannonball
aphotic | sea map
She's starting to think that they might've been sent into a situation where they were woefully under prepared and uninformed.
The ship abruptly rocks as a trio of cannon fire slams into them. Yunaka's lucky, and she's quick enough to grab onto the rail before she goes flying overboard, but a crew member nearby isn't so lucky. The sound of him shouting is cut off by a splash down below, but Yunaka barely gets a chance to look over the side before more shouting tears her attention elsewhere.
Damn, that's a lot of ships on the horizon.
With gritted teeth, she pushes herself back up to her feet. S'fine. S'fine. They're not finished yet. So long as you're still breathing, you can keep fighting. She glances over at the students, counts three heads still on board, and turns away with a nod. Still all fighting.
"We're taking on water!" Oh, great. Yunaka abandons the cannons to run over to the stairs below deck. It's not bad yet, but even from up here she can see water streaming in from below. They might not have as long as they'd like.
"Keep us from getting surrounded." She shouts over to the students. How they do so, she'll leave in their hands. Retreat or fight...their call.
Yunaka rushes down the stairs. Repair a ship, how the heck do you repair a ship? There's a plank of wood leaning up against some crates nearby. She grabs that, fumbles around in the crate until she finds a hammer and some nails, then rushes over to the nearest leak she can and starts trying her best to get the plank secured on top of it. As soon as she finishes, though, the wood groans and another trickle of water starts to pour in right beside it. She groans, turning to find another plank. "Come on!"
@dancersnewme
Oh! That was not good. Theyre 100% getting outnumbered by the second. Once the call was made that they were taking water, Lene's nerves had reached their breaking point.
But she was calm, so calm actually.
Lene thought about taking another shot at the approaching ships, but she was terrified at the idea that it could cause worse problems then if they just turned around now. It wasn't ideal- but she wasnt fond of dying in the ocean.
If she had a coin for every time she thought she would die in foreign oceans... she'd have two coins! Which isn't a lot but... its strange that it keeps happening! Maybe Lene should stay clear from ships.
"No... We should..." Lene's comment trailed off, as she quickly made her way towards the captain of the ship "I am SURE that you have realized by now-" fretted Lene, as she pointed toward the horizon "We'll ensure that the ship stays a float- just... please get us to safety" She didn't stay to hear the answer. Instead, swiftly making her way down towards where she had seen one of the others on the ship run towards.
"Im here-! Ill help!" Lene assured her, taking one of the planks near by, hammering the plank on top of the exposed area of the ship. She sighed, wondering how long they're going to be down here- and how soon they will be safe on land again.

im talking to a cat.

She felt A LITTLE SILLY.
Lene had heard that people were coming to the newly established 'cat cafe' which, in itself was cute! All those kitties will have a nice warm bed and food served to them daily.
What she was surprised about however, was that many people seemed comfortable with airing out their issues... and feeling better about it. Perhaps having the idea that those little furballs are listening to you is enough to comfort a person, but Lene didn't feel confident enough to do that.
No, She had... other ideas.
Sitting on top of a cushioned seat on the floor, waiting for a fuzzy friend to approach her. She had to be chosen, at least... thats what she thought. A tabby cat made its way towards her, opting to sit in front of her, leaning its weight against her leg. "Oh- Well-" she didn't think she'd get this far, gently petting the cat.
"I shouldn't be here- this is... A bit ridiculous isn't it?" Lene asked, pulling herself away from the cat. It's head tilted, flicking an ear before turning its attention to another cat at the other side of the room. Strange, she swears that the cat she was just petting was the only one in this are, yet here comes the second one, rubbing against the sitting cat and eventually laying against it.
"Oh... I see, haha! Its a romance, a... catmance... meowmance? ugh- how can a cat be so confident...." She continued to watch, how the sitting cat seemed both unphased, yet accepting of it situation. How the laying cat seemed to meow louder and louder until it got what it wanted. "Mmm.... you remind me of someone, but to fall in love with someone isnt that easy you know? Like... you could be friends for a really really long time and he may be a little dense which makes you question some stuff at times but- its OBVIOUS that he doesnt mean it... right?"
She'd look down at the cats, before sighing "I think im going crazy... why would some cats know my own relationship struggles...!"

WANTED PLOTS (JUNE 2026)
HIIII happy pride! Because of these last 2 months have been hectic, Im getting my footing much better, so here are my threads.
reckoner.
You’re sent to House Burgundy as part of a security unit. The viscount is extremely paranoid that he’s going to be the next victim and has been disrupting all other investigations and meetings to demand protection. This is mostly to keep him quiet. After two days, the man is found dead in his kitchen with a knife in his chest, and now YOU’RE being accused of doing it. [Grants Sword +1] (starter for @dancersnewme)
“Well, of course it was her, wasn’t it. When she arrived like that, and charmed that guy in the kitchen, and then suddenly the next day he’s dead?”
“Oh, don’t talk like that, that’s so nasty-”
“It’s because you know I’m right. A knife? Look at her, it’s got her written all over it, it would have been less obvious if he had written her name on the floor in -”
“Excuse me.”
The voice drew the housemaids to snapping attention, not because it was the familiar tone of their head of household or the butler, but because it allowed for precisely no quarter, the sort of sharp pitch that one does not hear in the estate of a landed gentry at peacetime, but at war.
Lachesis pushed her way past the dawdling girls, and shot them a dark look. “Are you intending on wasting your entire day gossiping, or merely the moments that some need to pass through the hall? As a matter of fact, if you’ve something important to say, I should think you would have the courage to speak up where all could hear, don’t you? A man was killed.”
The girls flushed and shot her mutinous looks in return, but did not reply - chastened only enough to scurry into the recesses of the house and free up the hall for passage.
Lachesis sighed. When she agreed to come to play house-guard for a paranoid noble, she had not expected that his staff would carry the same affliction, and even less that this would bleed over into true tragedy.
Viscount Burgundy did not see the death as a tragedy - in fact, he saw it as confirmation, as emphatic punctuation on the designated fact that someone was coming for his life. If it had not been the man, it would be the viscount.
Lifting her eyes, her gaze settled on the open doorway where the girl - Lene, little Ares’ friend - stood.
Another sigh. “I apologize. You must have heard that. But you can’t take heart to it. Not when we have a task to complete.”
Lene didn't understand what was happening, one moment she was just doing her job, the next she was pushed to be blamed for a murder. There was no way she would let this slide! No! Not one bit!
She defended herself tooth and nail. A wall that stood proudly against those vile lies. On the outside, Lene looked fine, almost as if they didnt affect her- or were even about her. But deep down, she was... somewhat hurt. Did she really look that suspicious?
She was walking through the manor, only catching the tail end of the gossip. Of course it would spread like wildfire. Lene was about to step up and (once again) fight for her innocence, but it seems that someone else had gotten there before her.
Lene looked relieved as Lachesis approached her, she finally felt that she wasn't alone in this place. "Miss Lachesis! Im so happy to see you!" She rushed over, almost teary eyed "Can you believe it? They think I did it-! All because I passed by ONCE while they're were alive!" Lene was more annoyed than anything, taking a deep breath "No... You're right. I need to focus..." shaking her hands as she paced to take the nerves out of her system, she needed to be as sharp as a dagger for this to go well.

ethereal ball - white heron cup match 3 || lene & byleth v. alcryst & lapis
The song makes its grand exit and the judges seem to contemplate for a moment. That they even need to do that much is somewhat reassuring. Could he go another round if need be?
Once more, a gloved hand raises to wipe sweat away from his chin. Even in this kind of weather, such an intense dance isn't for a weary heart.
With the deliberation ended, the winning pair is donned in a brilliant blue spotlight that's reminiscent of the heavens shining down upon someone. "Lapis and Alcryst will move on to the next round!"
Ah- so those are their names. The spectators erupt into cheers and whoops and it is no wonder. From the beginning the two of them held the kind of trust that extended far past just the steps they were making on this dance floor. Byleth bows his head to Lene. "I hadn't trained as much as I could, I apologize. Thank you for the wonderful dance."
And to the winning pair he turns with a soft smile. "Congratulations, I don't think I've had such a good time dancing before."
Oh? A shame, It seems the other pair won. Maybe her style of dance was to unconventional for this kind of event. So while she was disappointed (mainly at herself.) Lene still kept a smile on her face. "Ah well.... I think we did pretty good!" She smiles at Byleth. "Don't worry about it to much! Hey, maybe next time I can help you out. I really don't mind."
Then, Lene turned to the winning pair, breaking away from her partner and rushing towards the two. "Despite your nervous attitude, I believe the two of you did wonderful!" She noticed it earlier, but its clear that they had some sort of deeper connection. She knows a couple when she saw one, that made her chuckle to herself.
She takes one of their hands, giving them a light shake "Congratulations! I hope you two do well in the next round! Ill be cheering you two on!" She might as well pick a pair and cheer them on! Who knows how far they may go? And even if they didn't win, she had a feeling that they wouldn't be too upset. After all, dancing should be for ones own enjoyment! Winning is just a... secondary goal.

ethereal ball - white heron cup match 3 || lene & byleth v. alcryst & lapis
Alcryst dips his head down to whisper something to Lapis. Those witnessing the scene might see this as loving words privately exchanged by the couple, however...
"Lapis..." They haven't even started and he's already feeling queasy. "That's Emblem Byleth..." The one Emblem known to be a dance master!!! That must make that girl he's with a dance master too! To think they'd face such strong opposition in the first round... Will they make it?
"It'll be fine," Alcryst says, as if to reassure Lapis (though it's him that needs the reassurance). He takes a deep breath to calm his nerves and squeezes Lapis' hand. It's just you and me, Alcryst tells himself. He turns away from the other couple's dancing to focus on his partner. Just you and me and no one else.
Alcryst takes the lead. The nerves are beginning to get the better of him, and he's all too aware of every little misstep that he makes, but he does his best not to dwell on it. He tries to forget the competition. He tries to ignore their talented opponents. Instead, he looks at Lapis as though she is the only other person here, dancing alone in this grand ballroom. Step by step, his confidence starts to return.
9/4/2 = 15 points, @lazulienne help
That's Emblem Byleth... Alcryst's observation sounds and resounds in Lapis's mind from the second he points it out. “What?”
Her face pales, body going rigid. What confidence she'd tried to build up starts to flag up against the likes of knowing she dances on the same stage as a man with a routine called the Goddess Dance, and the way Byleth's partner smiled and laughed? Lapis can't help but think how easy she made the mood look; if Byleth was technique lined in divinity, then his partner made it all look so... approachable!
They're two halves to make a better whole. Lapis doesn't even see the judges' thoughts though, not quite the discerning (or critical) eye they are in these matters; instead, her attention is pulled towards the one who squeezes her hand now.
“R-right. We're in this together,” she tries to respond to his encouragement, squeezing back. The moment he takes the lead, she drills the steps she'd studied and practiced earlier, earnest in her attempt.
It's almost all the right steps, but they look wrong on her. A beat too late here, a bit too stiff to look effortless there— there's no one who looks more out of place even if everything in the choreography is ostensibly as it should be order and basic movement-wise.
But Lapis doesn't cringe or die inside for it. She, too, focuses on the dance, on being in his arms, and her expression is the same as the intense look she takes in battle for it. If she's going to sign up, if she's going to keep up, she'd do it as best as she can.
“Sorry, I'll keep better pace,” she whispers. “So let's keep going. I'm still with you!”
That, at least, is what she tells herself. The music, as if responding to her determination, crescendos then.
“The two pairs are pretty close in skill level, aren't they?” one judge whispers to their peer.
SCORE: 5, 7, 1 NEXT: @crested-flames or @dancersnewme !!
Wait. Theyre still in? Oh thank goodness. That wasnt the worst thing ever. Well, at least now she can redeem herself. She turned her attention to the competition. "I think you have them riled up" Lene commented, she thought it was a little funny "do you know those people?"
Maybe they saw them as intimidating, but she wanted to lighten the mood a bit. So she turns to the couple and flashes a smile! Bright , full of hope, before she focused on her steps. Each movement was done perfectly, properly, but with her own flairs and twists. Sudden small jumps, a wink to the judges, easy things to keep everyone on their toes.
Expect... She almost forgot she had a dance partner! She slows down "sorry, again. Haha!"

"Just enjoy yourself." The assigned partner he has for this dance isn't someone he knows, but throughout the night he'd heard that the appeal of these events was getting to know others through such things.
When he thinks about it in such a way, it's as if their meeting is being judged. Byleth's hold is rigid, already he sees a scribble from one of the judges. A sigh slips from the back of his throat as he sets a cautious pace. His steps are intentional(so much so his eyes dip to make sure they're correct) and his lips curve lightly upward.
There's a small spin to turn them to face more towards the judges as they move clockwise about the dance floor.
@dancersnewme , @starrook , @lazulienne
"I always dance to my fullest!" Lene responded, giving the professor a nod. "I just hope you can keep up with me-" She wanted to lighten the mood, simply following him along.
But maybe she... shouldn't have been to proud of herself just yet- Maybe she forgot to stretch or something because she was out of her game. Despite that, she did try to smile through it, even laughing! She didn't dare look at the judges, they might ruin her mood.
"Sorry," She finally spoke , loud enough for only her dance partner to hear.

When Your BF Wants the Hoodie Back || Ares & Lene
Infamous || Laundry Day (No point)
"...So I have your clothes here--"
A couple more passing snickers and snorts interrupted Ares' explanation again, grinding it between his teeth to yet another sudden halt that he could do nothing but roll his eyes at.
How many times that made it now he wasn't sure, no more than he was sure about how many more he had to look forward to. He only knew it was going to end up being more than what it would be if Lene's dorm was on the second rather than the first, down where the majority of prying eyes and ears milled past on their way to wherever else in the Monastery they were going. Sitting the whole complex on an elevated slab of stone without a wall in sight, it may as well have been a stage. And the free show of the day was catching glimpses of the man awkwardly shifting his weight between his legs outside a woman's door. Clutching a basket of her laundry under his arm. Flashing the world with his entire bare chest--
Another round of giggles, some distant and some closer, bubbled up just as he opened his mouth to continue, then disappeared again the moment he shot his glance sideways.
"...They're untouched," he finally continued after a fresh breath, which in turn was immediately met with another fresh round of low chuckles.
"I only opened them once, after you'd already left the washroom--"
More chuckles, plus some new whistles as well, which he now just continued talking over as he fought to keep his face straight.
"I'd thought them to be mine...until I looked, and saw your--"
This round of laughter was the loudest and most boisterous yet, and filled with a lot of "OOOH"s amidst all the other hoots and hollers that, unfortunately for the one particular boy making them this time, were too close to Ares' ear to not know exactly where they were coming from. His free hand was instantly over the other's face, without ever having to give him the satisfaction of turning to face him.
"So--" Ares continued, his words this time broken up by surprised gasps mixing with the loud rustle of a body skidding into the bushes nearby. "--I suspect both of us may have traded baskets."
A few actual sentences were swirling in the background now -- mostly surprised remarks, and one "What the hell, man?!" -- and none of which were entertained with a response by Ares in favor of continuing to talk at the door.
"Might you check?"
@dancersnewme
Well, she didn’t MEAN too take anything.
She kinda just took the closest basket near her and left. It was not until she arrived at her dorm that she realized her mistake. Actually she realized the moment she stopped and LOOKED inside the basket to realize that these clothes were…. Just not her aesthetic at all. No that wasn’t the problem. It’s the fact that Lene KNEW from the moment she set her eyes on them that they belonged to Ares.
A reasonable person would return them immediately.
But something had clicked in Lene’s head, a small, fairly harmless idea.
So instead of finding the clothes’s owner, what’s the harm in… playing a teeny-tiny game of dress up instead! Because that what she did… pretty much all morning, up until she heard a knock at her door. She wasn’t expecting anyone.. so it could only be one person. Lene slowly creeks the door open, only to have to bite her tongue to stop any kind of outburst to happen. She kept the door open just enough for Ares to see his face.
“Is that so..?” She could tell that this was causing a commotion outside, so to spare, or to worsen the situation Lene opens the door enough to slide the man in to her room and close the door behind him. Well, now her crime was at full display, and she knew her time playing dress-up would have to end.
Katarina is well aware that it's a bit rude to be caught staring, which is why she flusters slightly when her eyes meet that of the other girl.
"S-sorry," she begins, bowing her head slightly. "It's just that... your dress reminded me of flowers..." Sheepishly, she holds up one of her own white tulips. "It's not the same color, but, ah... a-anyway..." She hazards a small smile. "...your dress is very pretty."
Lene blinks, caught of guard for a moment. She was used to being looked at, watched even- it didn’t bother her here.
If it were anyone else though… maybe there might be an issue. Lene smiles, waving her hand “oh, haha! Thank you so much! That was the idea! Though I only recently found out how important flowers were for the ball haha…” her eyes widen “ah! Wait, speaking of flowers… did you wish to trade? I don’t mind doing it at all!” She pulls out one of her best looking orchids, handing it over to the other woman.
[ PHOTO IN MOTION ] "Diamant?" Last they spoke felt like an eternity, and on her mission to capture her memories, she was seeking out new and old faces. "Have you seen this video thingy? Its pretty fun to do! Come! You gotta join me, Ill trade my orchids with you if you join me!" After all, the last time they saw each other was... in that ambush a while ago.
"Ah, Lene! I'm glad to see you well."
The last he'd seen of the girl had been during their harrowing excursion through Jugdral, wherein it seemed almost every territory or region had some manner of ordeal for them to tend with. Considering the injuries she'd sustained back then, he was relieved to see her so lively, though he didn't quite understand what she was talking about.
"...Video?" He knew there was some contraption around here that had the students in a frenzy, but— "I can't say I've tried it yet, but I suppose it wouldn't hurt." A smile, "I've got a spare hyacinth I can part with too, if you'd like one."
@dancersnewme
"Thank you! I had plenty of rest... though I was starting to get bored of being on bed rest for so long" Her body became sore from sitting all day.. so when she finally got the clear- she felt like a fresh blossom!
She pulled out said contraption, setting it up and everything "Its real easy! just act like yourself will be enough" Lene guided him to be more visible, almost forgetting the original trade.
"RIGHT! The flowers, here!" She hands over one of her orchids, her bouquet was look more diverse as time went on and that really pleased her. "I think trading flowers are very fun! We can use them for the video, practical AND beautiful!"
Something To Remember Me By
@dancersnewme asked:
[ PHOTO IN MOTION ] "We haven talked since going back to Jugdral" Lene wanted to give at least some context to her sudden appearance "So I think us making a video could be fun!"
Oh, yeah, this green girl, she was familiar. Well, aside from the way her face made Lex feel like he was supposed to know her already but just couldn't quite recall her. He'd figure that part out later. No, no, he knew her because they'd fought alongside each other briefly.
"Oh, yeah, we were in Isaach together, weren't we?" Lex greeted her. "And you were in Verdane when, uh... sorry I couldn't get there safer. I'd've done more to keep you all safe if I'd been a little quicker. I mean, you all made it out okay, but..."
He had promised Edain he'd keep her son safe, and he'd failed.
"Hey, want one of my roses? It'd look nice with your outfit."
No it wouldn't, actually. The red would clash with the pink she was wearing. They were just too close in color to look nice together. Still, it felt like the right thing to do. A nice little flower as a friendly gesture. The thing she'd actually asked for could come next. He could figure out how this artifex thing worked after they got the pleasantries out of the way.
"Oh... Dont worry about it." Lene folds her arms "They only won using cheap tricks, and besides- we all made it back safely didnt we? No lives were lost." She seemed to casual about it, but that was not important right now.
Oh! She shouldn't get distracted, she was already pulling the device out "One of your roses? I wouldn't mind! Here, in trade I'll give one of my orchids! We can use them for the video...!" She takes the rose and switches it with one her own orchids.
"Just act like yourself! I have so many 'videos' that I think I could combine them all together into one big video. It will be wonderful... Im sure." she stated as she started the recording.
[ CORN ] - A new strain of corn has been bred in Bergliez with a curious trait—it pops when exposed to heat, becoming light and fluffy! Help yourself to a bag; it's a little bland on its own, but you get the feeling you could find something to spice it up.
"woah!"
The bag was a surprise, she heard that corn was present, but this isnt what she thought people were talking about.
"This thing is so soft... mmm... maybe we can add... uhh... some salt! Salt always adds flavor to the food all the time!" She grabbed a nearby salt shaker, sprinkling a BUNCH into the bag.
The saltiness added the right kick! not in a spicy way, but something else entirely. "this is good! mm.. I wonder what else you could add to it..."
[ SHAVED ICE ] - Served with a wide assortment of sweet, fruity syrups. Traditionally, it is served in bowls, but some are saying it makes for quite a refreshing sip when drank from a glass.
The sweetness made Lene smile, she placed her free hand on her face. "Oh ! These are really tasty- but I wasn't expecting the sweetness to force me to smile." she laughs! It didn't bother her much "I can see why these are such a hit"
She ended up finishing her sweet treat quickly– too quickly, she placed the empty glass and spoon down, rubbing her forehead.
"aha.. hah... ow." Maybe thats why people were warned to not eat quickly, but she didn't intend for that too happen, it was just... too good not to eat. "Miss Lachesis... be careful! This dish really packs a punch if you're not careful..."
"I take it you've heard about the ball by now, yes?"
Ares' whisper still carried plenty of strength when he was just a chair away, side by side on an otherwise quiet afternoon in the library. As did his stare, heavy with expectancy when he pulled it away from his books but content enough to simply idle over her shoulder.
"Do you plan to go?"
"The ball?" Lene asked, a little louder than she expected too, trying her best to lower her voice as they continued to speak. "I did hear something about it. How could I miss something that important?" Lene teased, tapping her pencil against one of the open books.
She glances over at Ares "Why do you ask? Are you planning on asking me out to the ball, is that it?"
When she said it out loud, it took her a moment too long to process what she had said, only to laugh awkwardly afterwards. "Oh, What am I saying! Haha... I think I crossed my wires" How embarrassing, she looks away.
"oh-! uh... I think I'm little late"
Of course a dancer has to go to an event like this, she couldnt miss it.
However, she found herself accidentally sleeping in and having to rush to get ready. Even if she couldn't do much like she originally wanted, she still feels ready to conquer the ball's dance floor.
crossed the seas to see you again.
continuation from here
"Yeah, it was bad... I was worried this place was gonna be in dire situation" Well- at least from what she came from, this place didn't seem that bad at all.
She kept talking, and if she wasnt paying attention she would've kept blabbering on. Her eyes widen as he cuts her off, blinking a couple of times at the sudden question. Lene relaxes for a moment, shrugging her shoulders "No not really, I never had the time nor reason to" She spoke, placing her hand on her hips "I actually thought about that on the ship you know-!" Lene pouts slightly, almost playfully to try and calm herself down.
A sudden idea pops in her head and she cant help but to chuckle "Why? Are you going to teach me yourself?" Lene asked.
"You ought to learn from someone." Ares replied flatly, yet almost clipping Lene's question off with the speed at which he gave it. "That I didn't do it already during the Holy War makes this my mistake, and I've ignored it for long enough."
Of course Ares knew he wasn't the only teacher in the army Lene could have consulted, but he still would have rejected any opportunities to shirk the responsibility to somebody else. Anyone else wasn't the reason she left her home to join one of the biggest wars their world had ever seen as the greenest of greenhorns, nor why she'd already been put in danger before. To hear how close she came to the worst because he'd been forgetful for years on end added a particular kind of bitterness to it -- and it curled his lips to have to taste it yet again.
Frowns as stiff and sour as his already looked made a great way to mask how it bit at his cheeks though. The most visible thing left was just his hand drifting back to his hip.
"There's plenty of gentler bodies of water within a day's reach of the Monastery, so we can start tomorrow." He was already spinning through a mental carousel of them as he spoke, forgetting the context of where he was and Lene had just been in the process. His only thoughts that remained to preoccupy him now were what clothes he ought to advise Lene to bring, where to meet, how early they should be up...
"Awww Ares!" Lene couldn't help but to smile at the speed he responded to her. Maybe he was just eagered to keep her safe. "I trust that you will take care of me." Lene places her hands around his arm.
She played around just to hide her embarrassment, the idea of being with him… alone… just the two of them… away from everyone. That idea makes her so giddy that she has to contain herself.
"Ha…." Lene sighs, pulling away from him "Do we really have to wake up so early?" The woman frowns playfully. The idea of waking up early sounds really bad.. not because she's going to be swimming all morning but because her bed is so comfortable. "Are you going to wake me up? Then I'll do my best to be up before hand so you're not waiting for long!" Lene assured him with a smile.
It's going to be a long few weeks, but at least she will be with someone she knew well!
