background
daphne was born in missoula, montana, only daughter of a dermatologist and an orthodontist. aside from being picked on for being a know-it-all goody-two-shoes, her life was relatively easy: they had a big house, nice things, went on two vacations a year. she was spoiled rotten as an only child by two parents who had no idea what they were getting themselves into.
she was a competitive and ambitious girl from a young age. she cared more about getting good grades than having friends and that was good since she was always more than happy to rat someone out as long as it meant coming out on top. she never liked to outright lie though, so daphne began her incredible feats of conversational gymnastics at an early age, bending and twisting words to fit her narrative.
she did her business degree at yale after high school and then went to england to do her mba at cambridge, after which she moved to new york for a dream internship she landed at masters intl with almaz vodka. she was such a powerhouse that they hired her before she finished interning and it wasnāt long before she stopped needing her parentsā money to be able to live in new york city.Ā
she rose through the ranks quickly and about a year and a half ago daphne became the product manager, a position which came not only with immense satisfaction but a killer office and a fat paycheck. working for someone else has never really been daphneās dream, though, and one day she intends to have her own liquor company, taking a few clients with her if need be.
personality
extremely domineering
a know it all, has 0 filter when it comes to correcting people
absolutely does leave those anonymous notes everywhere but is probably good at hiding it
everything about her is always put together and she rarely gets outwardly frazzled by having a lot of work to do
definitely gets inwardly frazzled and has mental breakdowns once in a while
is insanely hard to be in a relationship with because sheās so high maintenance and career oriented but high key is a very loving partner when sheās not focusing on other things
genuinely is just. a high energy person filled with ambition tryna get to the top and she can be abrasive and hard to keep up with and very unlikable unless ur willing to take the time to get to know her
her heart is......in the right place yfgehud sheās just way too willing to step on people to get what she wants and likes being in control of things and when people listen to her lmao
mason had been reviewing some of the paperwork that had presented at his desk, his eyes remaining focused as he ran his highlighter over a few key topics that he felt were important. that was until he heard daphneās voice, which is what brought him to tear his eyes away from the ink to look at her.Ā āhavenāt seen him.ā he stated simply, a smirk teasing his lips as he watched her eyes scan him. he knew it was a look of distaste, and he just couldnāt help but to find some sort of amusement from that.Ā āwell, that depends on what you need help with.ā he retorted cheekily, still taking this as a chance to mess with the girl.Ā āwhat can i do for you?ā
Masonās little smirk triggered Daphneās bitch reflex but she kept it in check if only so he wouldnāt win. That was unacceptable. Instead she adopted a positively saccharine smile.Ā āI needed a bit of legal advice, thatās all,ā she said enigmatically.Ā āYou see, Iāve been having issues with...someone. An inferior.ā The word came out sounding like she relished saying it. And it was true (she had a problem with most of her coworkers, actually), though it hadnāt been the reason she was looking for Nate. She was only toying with Mason now.Ā āI was wondering about the legality of having someone fired simply on the grounds that their amphibious features and irritating smirk trigger my fight or flight response. What do you think?ā
was it finally happening ? aliceās one goal in life ? sheād already successfully catfished david hasselhoff, after all ā this was officially all she had to live for: getting daphne estrada high. to be totally fair, it did seem like she could use it. if drinking wasnāt working ( which it apparently was not ), and if alice didnāt know how often she got laid, then this was the next step up. she had to stifle a laugh when daphne told her she didnāt know what thc was ā daphne estrada knew everything except for the difference between thc and cbd.Ā ā thcās what gives the actual high. cbd is just, like, calming, which is why itās, yāknow, heavier than thc in these guys, ā she explained, deciding to unabashedly pull the medical ones out. because she had a card !Ā ā i mean, theyāve definitely still got thc, itās just, like⦠easier to function like you would if you werenāt high. hypothetically. ā of course, such was only given when other drugs had failed⦠there was a reasonā¦Ā ā basically, a hypothetical person would hypothetically experience a sense of euphoria ā thatās the thc. ā
Daphneās eyes widened and she looked around in a half-panic when the joints were taken out. Thankfully, however, everyone was so utterly wrapped up in themselves and their own drunken bliss (or drama) that no one had a fuck to spare for Daphne Estrada being offered weed and seriously considering using it.Ā āWill you just...ā Daphne mumbled, trying yet to keep the joints hidden from any potentially wandering eyes, but Alice was too busy explaining the difference between abc and xyz to apparently care. Euphoria...that sounded nice, though. Calming was always a good word, too. She also liked the idea of these joints in particular beingĀ āmedicalā or whatever, since technically it was within the bounds of the law. And prescribed. By a doctor.Ā āAlright,ā she said finally, feeling reckless. It wasnāt without a pleasant little adrenaline rush, either.Ā āFine. Say I decided to try it. Do we just...right here?ā
Likely running into Blake wasnāt the reason Daphne was going down to the legal archives, but it also wasnāt a hinderance or anything, either. They were usually unbearably irritating when Daphne interacted with them, yet she did still like looking. Blake was nice to look at, not least because of their oddly chaotic energy. Like pinning them down wouldnāt be easy.
āHello, Blake,ā she said with relative formality.Ā āI hope youāre doing well? Iām looking for records from an old case where a former employee tried to sue after quitting.ā She chose not to say why she was looking for it, since there was really no reason to let them know she was preparing to be sued by a former disgruntled employee. Not that he had any real case, but...well.Ā āI printed out the information, can you help me find it?ā | @blah-kehā
ā sadly itās almost a natural instinct now-ā it was true, phoenix had very little to no fate in the intelligence of humanity. the proof was in the pudding, and florida.Ā āĀ seriously- iāll do a sobriety test right now. prepare to be amazed.Ā ā he placed the remote for the camera in his pocket and proceeded to walk in a straight line, heel to toe, while lightly tapping his pointer fingers to his nose in an alternating fashion.Ā ā i donāt mean to brag but that was incredibleā i need a celebratory drink now.Ā ā he gave her a goofy grin, it was an olson special, as he made his way back to his post.Ā ā not vain, just beautiful. a beautiful domineering bitchā your words not mine.Ā ā so resent that, he thought to himself.
Daphne narrowed her eyes at him, but after determining that Phoenix was not, in fact, being facetious, she allowed a small smirk.Ā āThank you,ā she said, pleased.Ā āThatās very nice of you to say, although I prefer āgoal-orientedā to ādomineeringā for future reference. Youāre looking very handsome yourself, especially now youāve proved your sobriety.ā She reached out to straighten his shirt at the shoulder and then brushed invisible dirt off of it. There was no such thing as too clean.Ā āYou know, you're particularly well-placed to be the watchful eye tonightāIām easily the classiest employee here, would you agree? I meanāā she gestured to the masses before them, drinking and laughing and fighting and dancing and jumping fully-clothed into the pool, and she shook her head.Ā āEven if I totally butcher this new campaign Iām working on, they canāt possibly fire me. Not when the company looks like this. Right?ā
daphneās extreme defense caused a grin to form, threatening to become an actual smile. it just confirmed her subject daphne had already been thinking about it, somewhere, even more !Ā ā alright, alright ā if you donāt wanna go for it, iām not gonna make you. i mean, who would i be to disrespect nancy reaganās legacy ? ā d.a.r.e. hadnāt worked very well, but just say no ? far more successful ! the one successful thing to come of the reagan administration ! to her knowledge ! however, daphneās question ā very hypothetical in nature ā caused the grin to creep back up.Ā ā well, i, hypothetically, donāt have any edibles on me or anything ā just joints. ā she couldnāt believe she was literally confessing to having drugs on her person on company property to a superior⦠she was either really risking it or really confident that daphne wouldnāt rat out her new confidant.Ā ā hypothetically, if someone here would want to ā hypothetically ā start with something a little light, i, hypothetically, also have medical grade right now. a little less thc. hypothetically, of course. ā
Uptight Daphne might have beenāorĀ perceivedĀ as being, anywayābut she wasnāt an idiot, and she wasnāt naive, either. She knew her coworkers were all aĀ bunch of drug-abusing, law-eschewing, immature slackers. She knew people were using this party as an excuse to get absolutely wasted and make idiots of themselves. So she wasnāt surprised to find out that Alice had marijuana on her...which wasnāt to say that Alice was all of those thingsāmaybe halfābecause Daphne certainly felt some fondness for her. Daphne sighed, griaced, looked to the open, starless sky as if for answers which didnāt come. āI donāt know what THC is,ā she said finally, lifting a brow at Alice.Ā āAnd I donāt know...that is, hypothetically, if one was to try a, um, joint...ā She cleared her throat.Ā āWhat exactly would happen?ā
daphne was hotā a possible conquest if she ever overcame that invasive case of head-bitch-high-school-bully she had.Ā āĀ iād say perfect- but i have a feeling you already knew that.Ā ā his eyes focused on the playback reel as he tilted it in her directions for her viewing.Ā ā this is what iāll be doing so long as someone stands on that platform right thereĀ ā he rarely ever gave people the benefit of the doubt so he figured heād be there until he took everything down.Ā ā drunk ? whoās drunkĀ ?Ā because it definitely isnāt meā i see it as a way to weed out the idiotsā if you canāt stand on a platform and literally let the camera do all the work, honestly i donāt know what to tell you. if anything is unusableĀ the subject is one hundred percent at fault.Ā ā he shrugged.
Daphne rolled her eyes but it wasnāt without the tiniest hint of a grin as well that gave her away.Ā āWell I canāt fault you for weeding out idiots, I guess,ā she acquiescedāperfectly truthfully, too. She liked doing a bit of weeding herself from time to time. The problem was the number of weeds.Ā āI do still think the person in charge of operating theāā she gestured again to the booth, just this side of too drunk to think of the wordāĀ āthing, shouldnāt be drunk. But of course, youāre claiming sobriety. And Iām feeling surprisingly inargumentative so Iāll take your word for it. And, you know, by the way,ā she added suddenly, lifting a brow,Ā āif your little perfect comment was implying that Iām vain then I want you to know I resent that. I may be the domineering bitch everyone says I am but Iām not vain.ā
quinn absently sipped at her vodka soda (( sans vodka, soā¦just a soda water with lime )) and nibbled on the little plastic straw as she skimmed through one of the five patent drafts she was planning on finalizing by the end of theā¦party. she was hardly anĀ an expert, but she was pretty sure most parties werenāt mandatory. her brow pinched as the music pulsated through her small frame and a loud peal of laughter sent her pink highlighter streaking across the entire page. quinn sighed and stared at the patent for a long moment before finally speaking, āi know that youāre supposed to enjoy yourself at parties, but must you do it soĀ obnoxiously.āĀ
āFrankly I couldnāt agree with you more,ā Daphne said, still watching the source of the laughter with a raised eyebrow. Yes, sheād had drinks, but that didnāt mean she turned into a braying, unfiltered donkey.Ā āNobody said this party needed to emulate Jersey Shore. I mean, itās a work party, for godās sake.ā Tilting her head a little to see what Quinn was working on, Daphne smiled.Ā āAlthough I wouldnāt necessarily recommend trying to do work here, either. Itās an open bar and a building full of useless drunks, so.ā
it never failed to interest alice: some of the people in the building perceived as āthe worstā had some hidden depths that made them far more entertaining. yes, vice versa was far more common āĀ āthe bestā had hidden depths that made them the worst, but man⦠daphne was just a shining example of the former. especially now that she was venting to her byĀ her own decision. god, maybe alice should become a therapist ā she was so good at pretending to really, really listen !
daphneās immediate response was more than amusing. perhaps alice had been subconsciously ( unconsciously ? ) considering offering her a joint again, but nothing came to the forefront of her mind until daphne actually acknowledged it. all of a sudden, she knew who she had to be: the bad guy in all theĀ ājust say noā psas.Ā ā itās legal here, yāknow.Ā ā maybe she did know, but on the off chance she didnāt and that played into it⦠she wasnāt totally sure about what the code of smoking on the premises after hours was ( but she had a card ! ha, rolfe ! ), but daphne didnāt need to know that.Ā ā i mean, i know you said no before, but⦠itās gotta be somewhere in the back of your mind if you brought it up, right ? ā
āItās nowhere in the back of my mind!ā Daphne insisted, though it was without her usual...oomph. She was tired. She was tense. She needed to relax badly, and she had been thinking about it quite a lot, maybe somewhere deep, deep deep down hoping Alice might offer again...? God, the inanity of it. She met Aliceās eye and frowned but didnāt actually say no. She looked around discreetly, as if her sudden contemplation might have been seen by anybody happening past with the ability to read minds.Ā āAnd I realize itās legal. That doesnāt mean itās legal at a company party. Nor does it mean itās smart.ā She paused, looked Alice up and down.Ā āHow would...what sort of...methodĀ would be used? Hypothetically?ā
Alice, as it turned out, wasnāt the worst person in the world. In fact, the absolute audacity it had taken to ask if she, Daphne, wanted to smoke weed with her. In the Masters building. In her office, when sheād been in such a mood, too...well, something about it had endeared Daphne to her a bit. Just a bit. Enough that she wouldnāt have even needed the drinks sheād ingested to spend time with her on the rooftop.Ā
āDonāt give me that look,ā she said after finishing a shortārelativelyĀ shortārant about work. Maybe she was just paranoid now, but she swore she could see a mischievous twinkle.Ā āI said no before and Iām saying no now.ā | @escxpiismā
phoenix was already about three drinks deep as he meandered around the rooftop. it still very much felt like a work day to him as he was incharge of manning theĀ āphotoboothā station. it wasnāt even a photobooth, but masters was adamant that the department provided something to capture everyoneās memories and all that other squishy bullshit.Ā āĀ seeing that youāre standing on my markerā how about a pictureĀ ?Ā ā
Daphne looked around at being addressed and sighed as soon as she landed on a familiar face. The Olson brothers. At least this one wasnāt so weasely-looking.Ā āOh, I suppose,ā she conceded and posed for the picture, adopting a mega-watt smile that came back off as soon as it was over.Ā āIs this what youāre doing all night, then?ā she asked, gesturing vaguely to the photo station.Ā āAnd youāre...drunk, arenāt you?ā Normally Daphne would be irritated by the blatant rule-breakingāhe was doing a job, after allābut truth be told sheād had one or two drinks already and was frankly not in the mood for telling people off anyway.Ā āTell me, how utterly thrilled do you think Masters will be that all the photos are unusable?ā
the tone coming from the woman had caught her off guard, so off guard that she wore the shock clearly on her expression. her posture tightened as she crossed her arms, teeth grinding together with a roll of her eyes. gianna pointed to the name on the door leading to her office briefly before her words begun to spill past her red painted lips.Ā āyou doubt security that much?ā she asked as her head tilted to the side.Ā āgianna sur, crisis management..ā she explained as she took a moment to bite from her donut.Ā
Daphne blinked a few times and followed the gesture to the name on the door, going red-cheeked when she realized her mistake.Ā āI...no,ā she said stiffly, feeling at once guilty and too prideful to admit it.Ā āOf course not, my apologies. Daphne,ā she offered a handāstifflyābut smiled more or less genuinely enough.Ā āDaphne Estrada. Up on forty-two at Almaz Vodka. Maybe you already know that,ā she said with a short laugh. Sheād, of course, meant it because Gianna was in security, but she also realized things had a tendency to sound arrogant when they came out of her mouth, and she hoped internally it wouldnāt be taken that way. Excessively beautiful women had an annoying way of robbing Daphne of her verbal faculties, which were typically top notch, thanks.Ā āYou were trying to show me something?ā
āOh,ā Daphne said, half in surprise and half with a somewhat-exaggerated note of contempt in her voice.Ā āMason...I was looking for Nate.ā She shuffled the folders in her arms and looked around, as if Nate might walk out of the wall, having been waiting in limbo just for Daphne Estrada to show up. Alas, it was Hugh Hefner she found instead. She looked him over once, letting him know she was judging him first and settling for him after.Ā āWell, I suppose you are an intern, maybe you can help me. Tell me, do you actually know what youāre doing?ā She lifted an eyebrow and kept a neutral expression otherwise though the question had been intended to provoke a little bit. | @masonrutledgeā
āYeah, of course Iām doing something right! Iām kind of awesome, duh⦠Youāre not that smart, right?ā Joey asked with an innocent smile on his face, as he looked at the other as she offered to help. It was definitely nice that the other seemed to change her mind about helping him, because he needed someone to help him find the file. Nodding his head slowly, he thought about who the file was for. If he was being honest, itās not like he could actually remember.Ā āOh, it was probably for Griffin⦠I assume, since Iām his intern and he probably sent me down here to get those files, but⦠I lost it.ā He said with a small smile, hoping that he had gotten that right.
Daphne lifted an eyebrow but said nothing in answer to what she assumed, coming from him, was not meant to be as rude a question as it sounded. And if it was, well...there was hardly any logic in being upset about being called stupid by a stupid person, right?Ā āGriffin, right...ā Daphne said, hands going to her hips as she looked around the room, keeping an eye out for any papers that looked out of place and might have readily presented themselves as the files in question. No such luck, of course. āWell, the good news is, I donāt see him reaming you for it. What are the files you lost, exactly? Contracts, forms? Were you copying them? I mean, it could be anywhere.ā
