isabel-alvez:
“Ooh. I like unrealistic and bad. That usually means it’s gonna be a movie I can make it through. Yeah, true. Maybe I’ll do that. Watch the trailer and test the waters.”
“Plus it’s even funnier to laugh at back after it’s movie, and you think of all the ways that it’s bad. Uhuh. It’s a good starting place, anyways.”
haniisms:
“yeah, i guess. like– they’re really keen on getting close to me and stuff. but i was fine when i was home schooled, it’s not like anything’s going to change.”
“that’s weird. have you told them to go away? that’s what i do, and they listen sometimes. dunno. maybe it’s supposed to be good for us.”
dylan-burton:
“That’s really cool. I’ll give it a shot for sure. What do I have to lose?”
“Your cat, mostly.”
rikuhenley:
“oh, i never won. i sucked at everything back in my shit show of college.” she chortled, “money is a huge topic and sometimes when people speak on it, it isn’t for the best reasons. i don’t follow you around at school so i wouldn’t know everything. then again, i’m not convinced you showed them that you’re open for conversation either especially with this conversation. being approachable is key. though, being pushed into friendships or even acquaintances are bad, i just don’t want you to be alone, that’s all.” riku shrugged, “and maybe you’re right, i’m just trying to be the optimistic big sister that believes that sometimes grass is greener on the other side.”
“oh. that’s good, ‘cause other people probably needed it more or something.” daxton sighs. “yeah it is, but people don’t really understand that i don’t have it all on me. i do try to be approachable. that’s kinda like..my thing. or it used to be. but like, all they wanna do is that about - that.” the thought of the accident made him pause for a second before shaking his head. “and they don’t get that i don’t want to. they keep tellin’ me conspiracy theories or something, and it’s like, leave me alone.” the kids at school always managed to upset him no matter what they did. “yeah. i know you are it’s just hard to see it from that perspective sometimes.”
.
rikuhenley:
“it was really weird. it’s like if you won the bingo card, you won a $50 gift card to whole foods or something. it was pretty interesting and important if you were a struggling college student. luckily, i was covered the one semester that i went so it didn’t really help me gain much as it would other.” she rolled her eyes. “well then give them something new to talk about. c’mon you’re cool, you could take over in like two seconds. everyone should want to hang out with the child star who has cool friends from LA. some people are kinda shallow that way, that would be entertaining to me to see them flaunt about for your attention.” she scoffed, “you really are a brat. all i’m saying is that they say small towns have the most secrets. you could find something if you dig a bit.”
“thats weird. never heard of that before. did you give it to the other people who needed it though? if you won it.” he lets out a sigh. “they should, but it’s like, apparently not an actual thing people care about. they only really care ‘bout is money which is like..weird. i think they’re scared to talk to me.” some of them gave him sympathetic looks and even flat out ignored his existence. daxton wasn’t used to not getting attention and it kind of bruised his ego. "'m not a brat. i'm just saying, not everything is like on t.v. sometimes places are just boring..like the desert. there's no secrets there. i doubt that people here, in the middle of nowhere, are hiding anything too bad that it'll shake up the world."
“so far, i’ve only made two friends this past month because i can’t tell if the people in school are being genuinley nice or fake nice to me. why couldn’t i just be home schooled like i used to?”
“are they always smiling at you and like, trying to wait on you all the time? that’s usually them being fake nice. i dunno. somethin’ ‘bout getting the whol real world experience. which is lame.”
rikuhenley:
“and it’s going to feel like a long time. but when the moment 18 comes, you’re gonna feel everything is going too fast. so lets take it day by day, yeah?” she gave him a soft smile before lifting her glass to take another sip of her orange juice. “no, no, i don’t go to bingo night. UNLESS its grocery bingo like they do in college, your girl loves to eat. though i don’t think they do that here. but honestly i just can’t get into the groove of letters and numbers with a ben stein wannabe taunting me with my low chance of victory. so i’m still young for another day.” riku leaned against the counter, listening to her brother’s struggles. it was a culture shock from living the high life in LA to going straight up small town bunker, so she couldn’t blame his hesitation. but he needed a distraction, they all did. “c’mon, you sound like you’re in a CW original. how can that NOT be fun for you?” she joked, “but really, it does sound like a drag, however, i’m not going to let you mope around. you can do that with rosalyn but i’m gonna make you go out there and discover something - anything. the world around us works in mysterious ways, how are you not even going to give it a chance? you could really miss out on something awesome.”
“fine.” it was very convincing, but wanted to just drop the whole subject altogether. “oh. good. i would’ve had to call you old if you went. what’s grocery bingo? i’ve never heard of that before. old people are ruthless when it comes to stuff like that. they’re more competitive than they look.” daxton scoffs at her comparison. “i do not. their shows are way more unrealistic than i’m being and not in a good way. plus it's not very fun actually living it. it's most boring after hearing about it the sixteenth time that day." that was a bit of an exaggeration. the kids did talk about the same thing over and over, but not that much. "okay, discover what? 'm pretty sure there's nothing really here to discover." he was being dramatic and he knew it. but really? linden already seemed boring enough without having to use his imagination or something. "i really don't see what awesome thing you're talkin' about here."
rikuhenley:
she sighed understanding why her brother wanted to leave and his newfound independence with his age, but she knew that he couldn’t just up and leave. at least not now. “dude, i get it. and if i could, you know i’d run you out to LA again. however, life sucks, and time comes with living your life. you’re 16, two years is not a long time to wait when you think about it.” riku smirked as he broke down her joke, chuckling and shaking her head at the teenager. “so young and naive, please never change.” she ended with a giggle. riku watched as his facial expressions fell, she felt it was best not to comment more of their parents. riku scoffed, a feigned expression of offense on her face. “10 is when I go to bed, mister! are you really calling me old right now? really, right in front of my orange juice?” she teased, holding up her half empty glass. “well if you don’t want to go looking for fun, try to find some new friends from this area. i’m sure they’ll tell you more about the hotspots rather than the bookstore. you can’t mop around about your friends and LA, you’ll drive yourself crazy. it’s just temporary.”
daxton leaned back in the chair, defeated. he knew riku was right. adults seemed to be when it came to this kind of thing. actually admitting it was an entirely different story. “i guess it’s not. it just feels long.” eyebrows furrowed in confusion but he just shakes his head at her. “’m not saying anything.” he laughs, hands raised in mock surrender. “’m just saying that usually all the people in like..nursing homes are in bed by at least ten. unless its bingo night. you don’t bingo right? or else i may really gotta call you old for real.” the blonde stops to think about the suggestion for a second. it was an option, just not one that he was looking forward to actually doing. “everyone here is weird. all they do is school and like..football and cheerleading and stuff. i don’t know anything about football besides you have to throw it. they don’t really seem to be all about fun. most of the time, they’re talking about their teachers and who or who isn’t cute. maybe i wanna mope around. even if it is, it feels like forever.”
rikuhenley:
“you know, you should try and stay young forever. you don’t want adult responsibilities, then you’d have the risk of gaining wrinkles from stress of not getting your coffee on time or having scandal’s air time getting changed. i wouldn’t want nobody to ever experience that.” she joked with a cheeky grin. riku merely shrugged again, “i don’t know either, i think it was in the will on the level of guardianship. i’m sure when they wrote it, ros and i weren’t capable of having the responsibility of the three of you, unfortunately.” the older sibling pondered for a moment and nodded, “i don’t see why not? a weekend isn’t going to hurt. you’d have to ask but if aunt kat doesn’t approve, you know you guys can kick it over at my place. i’ll even let you guys stay up past 10.” she teased with a wink. “yeahhhh, i will admit this place is kind of a drag at times. but that’s where the real fun comes in, finding fun to have rather than it being accessible. Pfffffft same difference. a bear is a bear.”
“i do try to stay young forever. which is why i don’t wanna wait ‘til i’m 18 to get outta this place. ‘cause by then i’ll have wasted a long time just waiting to do what i’ve been wanting to do.” his head shakes. "first, i don't think getting coffee on time is really that big of a deal. people are slow sometimes. and i don't know what scandal is, so i don't know how i would feel about the time changing." the mention of the will made his face fall for split second before recovering to a nuterual expression. "yeah. maybe. i didn't read it, so." daxton scrolled through his phone for a few seconds before laughing at riku. "common. i wake up at 10 sometimes. that's like, when old people go to bed. but it would be cool if they could come out and hang around for a bit. some of 'em might be busy but we can make it work." eyebrows raise. "i don't wanna go looking for fun. that's so much work for what may not even be sucessful. kinda. not really. there's a difference."
rikuhenley:
“hey, when the time comes, you’ll get out of here. you can do whatever you want after you turn 18 and finish high school.” riku twiddled with her glass and shrugged, “besides, you know aunt kat isn’t going to let any of you guys move back anyways, even if it was with me or ros despite your projects and unfortunately, your friends.” the young woman chuckled lightly and rolled her eyes, “someone has to show the heart around here, besides rosalyn is a little teddy bear. she may want to bite your head off - but a bear nonetheless.” she expressed with a heavier laugh.
“yeah but that’s like..forever from now.” there’s a slight pout on his face. “maybe not, but i dunno how much like..guardianship she has on us." the thought of not being able to go back as soon as he'd like was a bit disappointing for daxton, but understood the reasoning. "do you think my friends could come here then? 'cause i'm bored outta my mind. they have a bookstore here. i haven't read a book since..like five years ago unless it was for class. yeah, but i don't think teddy bears show their teeth that much. that'd make her a regular bear instead of a teddy one."
rikuhenley:
“no?” riku raised an eyebrow at him from over the rim of her glass as she drank her juice. she never really got a chance to ask any of her siblings about how they felt about the drastic move. everything just happened so fast from the accident, she just assumed they’d want to get out of california – kind of like she did, despite it being her one true home. once her juice was swallowed, she placed her glass down on the counter. “you know me, i’m comfortable with anything once you give me enough time to really find what i enjoy about it. but i won’t say this is better than cali, not by a long shot. besides, wherever you guys are is what i like the most.”
“mhm. it’s not gonna be like, next week but soon. hopefully.” he didn’t know as to how long they’d be in linden and he didn’t want to be stuck here forever. it wasn't exactly the ideal place to spend the rest of his childhood. “i got work n' all my friends want me to come back soon, so. they're already trying to plan stuff to hang out when i get back.” there was a light shrug at his last comment. the whole filming thing wasn't something he was particulary interested in going back to (at least, not yet) but his friends were the number one thing he missed about california. his sisters words made him laugh a bit. "you're sappy. if rosalyn heard that she'd probably make fun of ya'."
rikuhenley:
“i know you aren’t, i’m just speaking of your peers in general.” once organized, riku sat up from her seat, stepping around the island to the fridge to get a glass of orange juice. she smiled tenderly at him and nodded, “i’m happy to hear that you’re adjusting well, dax. and it’ll only get better from here once you start getting into the groove of things, but if you need any help or they’re giving you just let me know.”
he nods in understanding, unlocking his phone and placing it on the table in front of him. “there’s lots of kids younger than me here who are way lazier than anyone i’ve known before.” daxton shrugs, scrolling on his phone for a moment. “’m not trying to get that adjusted. this is just until we go back home.” of course, he wasn’t sure if they would ever go back to california, but he was hopeful. “what ‘bout you? do you like it here?”
isabel-alvez:
“I don’t know if I’ve ever heard of that one. I’ll give it a try and see if I can make it through it. Or at least half.”
“I heard that it’s really unrealistic and bad, but that might just be coming from biased people. You could always watch the trailer and see if you can make it through.”
rikuhenley:
“because your generation is already a slew of lazy hacks. finding what “x” is isn’t going to hurt you. and if it is, then we need to fight with your teacher.” riku sat down across from him, organizing his papers and books for him seeing that he wasn’t going to do his work anyways.
“‘m not lazy. i’ve been told i have a great work ethic.” he watches her move his stuff around, setting the pencil he’d been holding back down onto the paper. “the teachers here are nice though. kinda confusing with some of the stuff they teach but..it’s not as bad as i thought it was gonna be.”
rikuhenley:
“absolutely not.” she says, rolling her eyes as he pushed the books away from him. “honestly, no, however with the way society is evolving it’ll be used – eventually. besides, don’t listen to levi, he probably eats spaghetti with ketchup or something.”
“well why not? it'd be like..way easier than actually doing all the work.” daxton nods, listening before letting out a laugh. “yeah but we’ll have robots and everything to do it for us. so why i need to learn it, i don’t know. that’s true. he is a lil’ weird."
