Dustin all the way, especially with that final kiss. It's so annoying that Elle claims she can't date Dustin because he isn't a normal "option" when she clearly likes him. He isn't traditional, bland, but her mom hates him. This entire season is about Elle breaking away from her mom's expectations and forging her own Seattle based path. Dustin is that, fun, fearless, and feminist. Elle needs to get over the idea that she has to be any one thing. She doesn't need to date the hot jock with the sociable high-class parents, but she keeps going back to the boring guy who ignores her when things get bad.

Miles sucks. He is a jock, cute, sweet, charitable, but he doesn't make big moves. He quietly cheats on his girlfriend. He quietly supports elle when she feels out of place, but doesn't do anything tangible. He doesn't stand up for her or anyone when something goes wrong. He asks dumb questions to feel justified in making bad choices. When Elle is calling home to leave, he just stands there like an idiot. He is only there when everything is good to soak in Elle's sparkle and actively makes everything worse all the time.

Dustin is different. He is loud and unapologetic. He lets Elle sit with him even when she is unpopular. He takes he out of her comfort zone. He stands up for injustice and is considerate of those around him. He helps Elle embrace new experiences and explore every outlandish idea. He is in every scene where Elle is outcast, supporting her, except the very last when he gets hurt. She learns so much from Dustin, but nothing from Miles.

I don't understand why they want us to root for Miles and Elle. Miles was literally flirting with other girls WHILE in a long term relationship. He is a CHEATER. He doesn't even break up with Shannon, just waits for her to do it. He literally doesn't explain why he would ever do that to convince the audience or Elle he doesn't suck. Why does she never ask him?

Also; Elle really should have been a girls girl the whole time and told Shannon that Miles was flirting, but the way Kimberly shifts the blame of Mile's actions on to Elle is gross. Why does no one care that Miles was cheating on Shannon??? They all just act like it would upset her, but why aren't they angry at Miles. Especially at the end, no one questions that Miles kissed Elle, but she is made out to be this terrible person

I think the ending could have been so much better had those two versions been childhood best friends and husbands already. Could have been the exact same scene in the show, but they were already married and it was a more classic joke filled exchange like in the universe we know and love. It fits the characters and story better

The prolouge (set three weeks before the tuna melts) is very sad because Ilya is so clearly in love with Shane at that point, but Shane hates himself so much for even being in the room with Ilya. Shane keeps noticing how weird Ilya is being, especially when Ilya calls him "very beautiful". It is sad to see both of them be the farthest from eachother they are the whole book. Ilya in love and Shane miserable.

Ever notice that the prolouge of the book is their last conversation before the tuna melt scene, one in October 2016 and the other in November 2016. The prolouge where Shane's self hatred is loud and constant throughtout their entire incounter, where Shane says how "disgusted" he is with himself, calls their relationship a "horrible, fuck-up thing", and thinks that he desparatly needs a girlfriend to end it.

It was a choice to make it in October 2016, a month with multiple other perspectives (Chapter 12), including Hayden and Shane's conversation about settling down and having kids. Shane is already spiraling and deeply concerned about their relationship affecting his chances of doing what he should be doing at his age. When Ilya trys to push it furthur, Shane pulls away hard.
