“Jesus…” Tatiana hissed in shock at the sight of the guns – if there was one thing she missed about the UK, it was how difficult it was for people to get their hands on those bloody weapons! She sounded more annoyed than frightened though – typical of the often-foolhardy woman – but the bitchy comment she had prepared to direct at the rednecks was lost. The minute that twisted faced mother fucker directed his gun at her two dogs, the human made a strange sort of strangled choking noise as the air was cut in her throat.
Had she been given more time, Tatiana would have ordered her dogs to attack – running at that point, at the range would have been pointless, both of their chances only improving marginally if both canines and Tatiana lunged forwards – but she wasn’t. The gentlemanly sounding vampire had flitted towards the gun wielding asshole, removed the deadly weapon then returned to Tatiana’s side where he crumbled the guns like they were made of tin foil.
Negan stretched out his long, velvet black muzzle so he could sniff at the crumpled weaponry in Des’s arms – Negan had once been owned by a vampire and unlike his bitch companion Lucille, he was more comfortable around the scent of the undead. For Lucille, it was merely a scent to track. Their handler however was staring in awe at Des as he both physically and verbally destroyed the human bigots without so much as touching them. It was smooth, elegant, and blood free. Sure, Tatiana had jumped to his defence, but her solution was to use trained tracking dogs to take on gun toting red necks, and maybe lash out at someone with the small self-defence kubaton. She had done the right thing, but she was glad to not have had to have done anything. Her way would have been a lot messier, and no doubt resulted in the death of at least one of her beloved pets.
When the rednecks scampered off, throwing rather cowardly threats over their shoulders, Tatiana commanded her dogs to stop barking with a quick “Ruhig” and they obliged almost instantly, although Lucille did expel one last whine of excitement. She really was born for work.
“Oh!” Tatiana waved away the thanks as though it meant nothing, and she was totally used to that kind of thing. In reality her heart was actually racing with excitement, her stomach felt queasy from anxiety and her mind was running a mile a minute at the prospect of talking to a vampire. The whole interaction had been terrifying, thrilling, and then all over before she even knew what had happened. “Not a problem! Although it didn’t look like you needed me at all in the end!” Tatiana scratched the back of her shaved, bleach blonde head and then remembered that her two dogs were staring up at her waiting for a treat. She quickly obliged pulling them both bite sized dry bones that they were not impressed with.
It occurred then to Tatiana that she was still holding the kubaton – a self-defence wooden shiv designed for vampires – and she hastily tried to tuck it up her sleeve. She clearly had showed she wasn’t anti-vampire, but holding a weapon designed for his species would no doubt give the wrong impression.
Desmond supposed it had all happened rather quickly though at no point had he actually felt unsafe. Still, the woman hadn’t had to bring her dogs over and offer any kind of assistance, most wouldn’t have. Even if she hadn’t actually had to do anything but startle the men Desmond still appreciated the support. He hadn’t actually felt unsafe, of course, there was little the hillbillies could’ve done to actually hurt him but her gesture still deserved recognition and gratitude. One of the animals seemed more comfortable around him than the other though Desmond didn’t really think of himself as a good judge of animals. He’d never really kept dogs in spite of having been around during centuries where it was the thing to do as a gentleman because dogs never really seemed comfortable around him. He’d rather look after instruments than pets so that had also contributed to the fact.
Dusting off his hands and making sure the rednecks were well and truly gone, he turned his full attention on the woman. He could hear the way her heartbeat raced with adrenaline and smell her excited blood but he’d long ago mastered his hunger so it was merely something to be noticed not something that would drive him to distraction. “Your dogs are very well trained.” They clearly responded instantly to her command words and Desmond could appreciate the effort that must have gone into training them. He clasped his hands behind his back once more as she practically waved off the apology. “Perhaps not, but I do believe the distraction you provided saved me from getting bullet holes in my suit and I appreciate that.” He probably could’ve dodged the bullets, come to think of it, but still.
When she put the weapon away, or tried to, he raised an eyebrow slightly. “That’s a rather interesting weapon.” He might as well let her know he’d noticed it and that he was not blind to what it looked like it should be used for. Not that Desmond was accusing her of anything but it was curious that she’d come to his aid yet carried something that could actually hurt him unlike the guns the rednecks had aimed at him.
