ask-the-kids-from-304:
Juniper shivered at the temp drop and looked around before Sal started talking like he had something hella important to say, “What’s up Sal?” she asked him watching him start looking around too. She couldn’t shake the feeling they were being watched, “w-we’re being watched” she whispered to him.
Larry blinked faintly, “Can you not see me?” he asked a faint echo to his voice from how long he’d been in the complex with the others.
Now or never, Sal thought with a grimace. He could only hope that Juniper wouldn’t think he was going to hurt her. Shifting slightly, he took a deep breath and sighed.
“I’m...” He swallowed. “I haven’t been... entirely honest with you.” Nice start, dumbass. “I’m... I’m Sal Fisher. I’m that... that kid you were talking about. I’m the one who did all of this.” The words fell from his mouth before he could stop them, and his hands trembled. He shoved them in his pockets.
“I’m sorry,” he said quickly. “I... I’m not going to hurt you or anything, I just didn’t know how you’d react if you knew, but I know it wasn’t r-” Before he could finish, he fully registered the presence in the room and stiffened.
Jupiter was right. They were being watched.
Sal slowly turned his head to look, and over his shoulder he saw something that made his heart leap into his throat. It was hard to see, but he could almost make out the figure of a person standing in the doorway.
Then the voice reached him, and he had to stop himself from letting out a gasp.
“L... Larry?” he said quietly.
ask-the-kids-from-304:
“I’m not sure what the townspeople believed would’ve been released” Juniper mused as they explored, “I remember once in High school I’d overheard the guys talking about a cult in town…maybe there was something about the cult that could potentially be released if the building is destroyed or someone thinks the ghosts might lash out” she fussed with her bangs.
“Oh they were” she smiled at his comment about good friends, “Larry was a blast and Sal was an incredible kid from what I saw, always stood up for his friends” she glanced at him noticing him looking down. “You okay stretch?” she asked him politely, “we can leave if ya want” she offered.
‘No she just got here!’ Larry thought to himself as he followed them closer than was probably wise, he didn’t see Juniper shiver as he made the temperature of the air around them drop slightly with his presence.
A cult... Sal barely kept himself from shuddering at the mention of them, and his eyes hardened slightly. He smoothed his expression before Juniper could notice, but his thoughts were racing. It seemed she knew more than he thought, even if she didn’t know the full extent of what happened.
As she continued talking about her friends, Sal realized that he had to come clean. No matter what happened, he had to tell her--it wasn’t fair for him to keep his secrecy at her expense, especially not in a place like this. He took a deep breath to stele his nerves, but before he could speak she asked him softly if he was alright. He startled slightly.
“Ah, I-I’m alright,” he said, fidgeting slightly. “We don’t... we don’t have to leave if you don’t want to.” The air was getting colder, but it hadn’t dropped so far that Sal noticed yet.
Moment of truth time, he supposed.
“Juniper,” he began, “there’s... there’s something I need to tell you.” A pause. “It’s not... well, it’s not really good, but it’s not bad, but you should know.” What a way to start, dumbass.
It was then that Sal realized how cold it was getting in the room, and he stiffened slightly. As subtly as he could, he looked around. It was dark, even with the flashlights, so he couldn’t quite see anything yet, but... there was something in the room with them.
Fam i godda ask how bad is the thread with juniper and Sal gunna hurt?
//No idea, but I know we're gonna find out!! I'm working on my next reply and it's making me an emotional lil man!!!
ask-the-kids-from-304:
“If it truly is haunted I highly doubt they’ll show themselves” Juniper offered in reassurance as she got two flashlights out of her bag offering him the bigger one, “From what Ash told me about all this stuff, we’d need a special light that only Sal had access to or something along those lines.” she could see that he seemed a bit nervous but assumed it was just y'know because she was going on about ghosts.
“Most we may see is Rats or Spiders” she shuddered opening the door into the empty apartment the room went to, “I heard after Sal did what he had to do that nobody wanted to touch this place, but they’re too scared to tear it down incase ‘something evil gets out’ Oooh yeah might let out some Metal head painter” she giggled albeit sadly and looked at the empty walls and old tattered carpet.
“Larry loved Sal, they were step-brothers and inseparable it was nice” she looked at Sal with a nostalgic smile, “just this tree of a man and his gangly blue haired brother, Sal brought an interesting…zest to this town” she rubbed her neck and shone her light around to take in more of the room.
Unbeknownst to the pair of paranormal acquaintances a spirit was following them, not that he was going to let them see him until he was damn sure his hunch was right. Larry Johnson would know his childhood friend Juniper anywhere especially with that old Sanity’s Fall T-shirt and galaxy patterned skirt, the guy with her he was curious about which was why he decided it wouldn’t kill him (again) to follow them from the shadows.
Sal smiled ever so slightly at the reassurance and started to respond, but as she continued speaking he fell quiet. He certainly appreciated her reassurances, but the mention of himself made him pause. God, he should tell her who he really is, shouldn’t he? The longer he kept this up, the worse it’d be when the other shoe finally dropped.
Silent as a shadow, he followed after her as she stepped out into the empty apartment building. His bright blue eyes scanned the area, and he barely held back a wince at the memories flooding his mind. The longer he was here, the more he regretted coming along, but he knew it was too late to back out now.
Juniper continued talking and he nodded along, but when she mentioned him again he felt his blood freeze in his veins. He looked at her, trying to gauge her expression, and was surprised when he didn’t see any anger--just sadness, her eyes shining as she reminisced about her friend.
Did she not blame him for what happened? It was a strange thought, one he hardly dared to entertain, but he found himself biting the remains of his lip to hold back the truth before it came spilling out.
“’Something evil?’“ he asked instead, carefully trying to gauge exactly how much she knew. “I don’t think I’ve heard that part before...” As she continued, he couldn’t help but look down, shame and grief coiling in his belly.
“Yeah...” He swallowed. “They sound like they were... good friends to have.”
As he walked with Juniper, unaware of the specter following behind, he kept his gaze on the ground, not wanting Juniper to see the shame in his eyes.
ask-the-kids-from-304:
“Yup that’s the Nockfell trap” Juniper chuckled a little hearing how he moved here young and was never able to leave, “happens to so many” she said as she tested the door surprised to find it unlocked.
“Here we go” she said softly opening the door to a dusty empty apartment room, “I haven’t been here since ‘91” she fussed with her hair before sliding off her backpack and fishing around it for a small portable CD player and pulled it out popping in a CD and setting it aside.
“Larry sucked me into Sanity’s Fall when I was about…10 and he was 9” she chuckled fondly, “an absolute nutcake, he was an artist too it was mesmerizing to watch sometimes”
She lightly cleared her throat as she slid her bag back on setting the player on a box that’d oddly been left behind, “he-hey Lar, I finally found a way in thanks to a new acquaintance of mine…I’ve been meaning to bring you the newest soundtrack, brought a player too. Rock on ya nut” she smiled sadly laying some old over-the-ears headphones by the player plugged into it.
“I’m half tempted to just explore the place, I always heard crazy rumors it was and still is haunted” she admitted glancing at Sal, “y'wanna come with? I got flashlights” she offered politely.
Sal couldn’t help it--he chuckled along with Juniper at her remark about the ‘Nockfell trap.’ That was certainly a way to put it, he thought with a little smirk. His smirk fell quickly as the door opened, revealing the old apartment within.
He should leave. He should leave and never look back. But something compelled him to stay--maybe it was guilt, maybe it was some bitter obligation to atone, maybe it was a desperate desire to face his fears and see if the ghosts of Addison Apartments hated him for what he did (as they should)... Sal wasn’t sure, but rather than turning and leaving, he continued standing there.
When Junipter mentioned Sanity’s Fall, it took everything in Sal not to flinch. Instead, he chuckled and nodded, forcing himself to seem unaffected. “Sanity’s Fall is a good band.” He tried his best to keep his voice even. “Haven’t listened to them in a while, but I used to be a big fan.” He couldn’t handle the guilt, but it washed over him in a tidal wave anyway as he watched Juniper set the CD player on the box.
Part of him wondered if Larry would make an appearance. He supposed it was possible, but... he wasn’t sure if he could handle that.
He really should leave.
But, when Juniper glanced up at Sal and asked him if he wanted to come along and explore the building together, he couldn’t help but nod. “Sure,” he said. “I’ve, ah... I’ve heard that, too, but I guess we’ll just have to see.” Another forced chuckle.

{✿} – If Sal had divulged his sense of self-deprecation, Malakai would have told him that he was sure it wasn’t true. Everyone had the capacity to be good if they really wanted to be. Everyone did. Even Robbie Rotten - and he was nearly completely…well, through lack of a more fitting word, rotten! Malakai was a firm believer in his opinion that anyone was capable of doing better, of bettering themselves, even if it started off in the most itty-bitty ways; smiling more at strangers you passed on the street; paying the bill for the person behind you in line at the coffee shop, or standing outside with a big basket full of compliments and handing them out to anyone who could use a smile.
Even when these changes may have seemed inconsequential and unimportant to other people, Malakai always saw the positive in people’s actions & knew that everything, however small, made a difference to the planet.
❝Oh, dear! Where are you trying to get to…?❞ Malakai tilted his head to one side, hoping the masked stranger wasn’t too far away from their intended venue. Perhaps, he could help him regain his bearings. ❝You’re in LazyTown! Welcome, friend! Everyone is really nice here!❞ he gently reassured, clasping his hands together passively in front of his body. ❝Do you need to use my phone to make a call or anything…? I can fetch you some tea while you’re figuring out how to get to your location, if you want…or I’ve got some soda if that’s more your thing?❞ The soda was mainly there as a contingency for impromptu visits from the LazyTown kids, as he wasn’t a massive fan of carbonated drinks himself & usually only consumed it on special occasions. He was more of an orange juice kinda guy - and the kids could be too, but everyone deserved a little treat at the weekend, right? Even Sportacus wouldn’t deny them that. Malakai seemed to drift off into a daydream for a moment or two before coming back round to reality…maybe, it was the thought of Sportacus, local sportsman and self-proclaimed slightly-above-average hero. Or maybe it was just Malakai being absentminded, as usual…
Sal lifted a hand and rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly. He didn’t quite know how to answer that question, and he furrowed his brow behind his mask as he thought about it. The stranger seemed friendly enough, and he clearly wasn’t put off by the fact that Sal was wearing a mask. That enough earned him points in Sal’s book, though he was still uncertain. As he continued, though, Sal couldn’t help but crack a small smile.
What luck. Of all the towns he could’ve ended up in, it was one full of people who are nice. Not that that was a bad thing, but... Sal knew very well he wasn’t welcome in a place like that. Still, the stranger’s kindness and sweet energy was infectious, and Sal’s smile grew more genuine even as he cleared his throat.
“Ah, I’m just... trying to get away, I suppose,” he said finally. “Where I’m from, uh, isn’t as... welcoming as this place is.” He knew it would be more than a little rude to just dump his problems on this poor stranger, so he decided to leave it at that. So, to try and keep the stranger from asking any questions, he quickly changed the subject.
“So! Um, Lazytown. That’s an interesting name.” He smiled a little more widely, visible only through the crinkling of his eyes through the eyeholes of his mask. “And you have a really nice town. I haven’t really talked to anyone except you, but it’s... nice here.” Sal stuffed his fingers into his pockets. “And, ah... I think I’d like some tea, i-if you don’t mind. I don’t want to impose.” He’d already taken up enough of this stranger’s time, but part of him couldn’t help but latch onto the first person to show him such kindness in such a long time.
ask-the-kids-from-304:
Juniper nodded softly listening to him as he spoke, that’d explain it she never really went toward the outskirts of Nockfell. “I was born and raised here but left after the massacre, I was tight with the residence and while I don’t think we were friends per say I did like Sal Fisher he was a great guy and always up to something interesting” she chuckled fondly. “I’m honestly…considering moving back, it’s just me and my brother now and well” she looked at the complex as the neared the back where a burned up dead tree with the remains of a charred treehouse stood, “massacre or not, dead friends or not Nockfell’s always gonna be home” she said softly.
As Juniper spoke, Sal realized with a slight jolt that this girl was familiar. Not just that--he knew her. She was right--they hadn’t been friends exactly, but they’d been friendly. His sweaty palms grew sweatier and he discreetly wiped them on his pants. If she already knew who he was, it was only a matter of time until she recognized him. He had to leave now.
But, fuck, there was no way to leave without making her suspicious, was there?
Sal swallowed and nodded along, hoping against hope that his nervousness wasn’t obvious. A pang of guilt shot through him as she finished speaking and glanced at the remains of the old treehouse. Guilt was an old friend for Sal, so that wasn’t too surprising, but it ached nonetheless, and the wave of self-loathing it brought with it washed over him like an icy tide.
“I understand that,” he said softly, shaking his head ever so slightly to clear it. “I... I wasn’t born here, but I came here when I was younger. Haven’t really been able to leave.” Finally, the pair rounded the corner and reached the back of the building. Just as Sal had said, the back door still stood there, not a board in sight.
“We’re here.” Sal cleared his throat uncomfortably, realizing he was just stating the obvious. “I mean... yeah.”
Yooo I'm living for your thread with the kids from 304, you 2 write beautifully together
//Thank you!!! They're a blast to RP with, and I'm really excited to see where the thread goes!
//Which reminds me,,, I should,,,,, respond to that
ask-the-kids-from-304:
Juniper perked up, how had she not thought to try the basement door?! she followed Sal to the back of the building her eyes taking in the myriad of graffiti on the buildings walls many of them reading ‘Free Sal’ in different colors, she made a small mental note to see if maybe there was paints still in the basement so she could add a tag of her own. “So…do you live in Nockfell?” she asked politely as she walked a bit behind him, “not a lot of people just visit Nockfell” she mused casually. It was definitely not a touristy town, grey and always kind of musty most people only ever stopped here if they needed gas or directions but they never stayed longer than that.
Sal shuddered slightly to see the tags decorating the building. He glanced at Juniper as discreetly as he could manage, though he couldn’t quite tell if she had made the connection. His nerves were on fire, but he knew it was too late to back out now. Besides, if she had a connection to this place... she deserved a chance at closure.
When Juniper spoke, he jumped slightly, though he tried his best to play it off. “Ah, yes, I do,” he said. No use lying. “I live kinda at the edges, though. I don’t go into town too much.” Too many people might recognize him. But he couldn’t stay away.
Realizing he should return the favor, he cleared his throat and asked, “What about you? I, ah... I haven’t seen you around before.” He paused. “Not that I really know everyone in town.”
