Oh wow! I have never had someone ask to do a podfic of my work. That is so amazingly nice of you.

I am glad to know you’ve enjoyed my work enough to want to do this.

I only ask that you let me know where it is published once it is (I don’t know much about podfics, if it is on AO3 we can do a “related work” type of thing) and allow me to link to it and to (obviously) give me some sort of credit just so people know this is a collaborative transformative work.

I definitely saw some direct comparisons but I would like another outside opinion before I take the next step.

The Fox and the Wolf was one of my first successful fics on here and while I cringe at some of my writing, it is mine and led to a real-life friendship.

I was inspired by and based it off of Amelia Atwater-Rhodes' Hawksong. Now if it is a similar scenario and this author was inspired by me, I would appreciate a linked/related work.

The fic in question is called A Forbidden Union. I am not asking anyone to attack this author or to say anything (please don’t do that). I am just asking if I am simply seeing a connection where there isn’t one.

My biggest tip for fanfic writers is this: if you get a character's mannerisms and speech pattern down, you can make them do pretty much whatever you want and it'll feel in character.

Logic: Characters, just like real people, are mallable. There is typically very little that's so truly, heinously out of character that you absolutely cannot make it work under any circumstance. In addition, most fans are also willing to accept characterization stretches if it makes the fic work. Yeah, we all know the villain and the hero wouldn't cuddle for warmth in canon. But if they did do that, how would they do it?

What counts is often not so much 'would the character do this?' and more 'if the character did do this, how would they do it?' If you get 'how' part right, your readers will probably be willing to buy the rest, because it will still feel like their favourite character. But if it doesn't feel like the character anymore, why are they even reading the fic?

Worry less about whether a character would do something, and more about how they'd sound while doing it.

But it was along the lines of "instead of asking whether something is out of character, ask 'what would it take for this character to do this'"

Which I think fits really nicely with this advice of making the actual action itself also feel in character
