About my blog

Hello! I am a long time Diabolik Lovers fan (about 11 years now) and I decided to start posting about thoughts and theories I have about the entirety of Diabolik Lovers. This blog is only going to have Diabolik Lovers content which will mainly be rants, facts about characters, analyses, theories, head canons, and down the line short story AU's. I started out only on the western side of the fandom because the only languages I speak are English and Spanish so I only had access to the anime. At the time I didn't really understand the story or its characters and I watched those Diabolik Lovers crack videos way too many times on Youtube (lol). The Diabolik Lovers wikipedia was also highly unreliable because it spread misinformation and mistranslations. Now because of awesome translators I have read and listened to all of the games, most of the Drama CD's, and many other Diabolik Lovers content (even character tweets). I have also been paying attention to analyses that the fandom has been sharing about characters and its lore. I have developed many thoughts and theories so this blog is going to be treated as a journal of thoughts. What I say is not always going to be the truth so please be respectful and kind if you comment. My goal is to try and make at least one post a day :)

Diabolik Lovers Rant: #6 continued

Subject: Why are the Diabolik Lovers brothers not destroying the world (part 2 from yesterday)

I was re-reading Laito's route to see if I can get somewhat of an answer of why the diabolik Lovers brothers are able to keep their human feelings without the destruction of the demon world (+Eden) and one way to do that is to simply return the powers to the world tree. This was in Laito's Lost Eden ending and honestly who needs those powers anyways. Only Karl Heinz can control them anyways and it was stated in the ending that "the only individual who can wield those powers is Karl" so I think it's better for the diaboys to return those powers.

I have now finished re-reading Kanato's route and honestly it cleared up a lot of confusion. In Kanato's Lost Eden ending it says this in the monologue: "The World Tree which had passed down its powers to revive us, withered once more, making it impossible, to enter the Demon World. Therefore, we are currently living all living together, here in the human world" that means the Demon World doesn't have to collapse if Adam and Eve live in the human world (dialovers-translations, Diabolik Lovers Lost Eden Kanato Vampire Ending). It also doesn't have to collapse if Adam is able to control his emotions when he enters the Demon World but with the help of the Sakamaki brothers, Mukami brothers, and Tsukinami brothers this can make managing both worlds easier. This helped me better understand the other endings too because some of them left on a cliffhanger like Ayato's ending where he says along the line of "I am not sure but I will find a way to restore Eden+The Demon World" and it didn't give much information on how to get that solution. After exploring other routes and endings suddenly Lost Eden makes sense. Here is a helpful outline of main plot points in Lost Eden (of course there are still writing inconsistencies but we can just pretend that different worlds have different rules like Kanato controlling fire in some worlds but not others):

-Karl Heinz was able to numb his emotions and feelings because Cordelia wasn't able to give him human feelings (Karl Heinz mentioned in Ayato's More,Blood route that Cordelia's feelings sadly couldn't hold him and that's probably because she herself is a demon and so he wanted her heart to be placed in a human).

-This allowed him to control his powers and live in the Demon World just fine. Reiji said that he was the only being that could transcend to being a god and that he just can't numb his feelings.

-Karl Heinz has created 184 worlds and will continue to make many more even after he dies. He has been shown to travel in pocket dimensions and even the afterlife (shown in Laitos' More,Blood manga). No other character has been able to transcend to being a god (more like a devil) and Reiji even said that it wasn't possible for anybody else to do that.

-He created the Adam and Eve plan to have a dialover awaken their feelings for a human and Eve essentially chooses who inherits the power. They awaken their feelings by sucking Eve's blood and eventually Eve can't live without them either. He wants them to lose control of their powers to end the demon world because he doesn't like the twisted nature of demons. He wants them to have offspring because they would he wants demons that are not immortal and don't have demon nature. They also would be immune to endzeit which is currently a disease that's trying to wipe out demons (already wiped out the founders to near extinction) and Eve's blood actually has the cure for it! Shin also has an immunity to endzeit which I thought was a pretty cool lore drop

-If the person who has the power of the world tree loses control of their emotions in the demon world all citizens of the demon world will perish and the whole world will collapse which is what Karl Heinz wanted. He just wanted Adam and Eve to be left.

-All of the Diabolik Lovers brothers can prevent the demon world from ending and still get a good where everybody lives if Adam and Eve live in the human world (Kanato's ending Lost Eden). That's why we see them survive in the other endings and Yui doesn't have to end up alone with one of the Diabolik Lovers brothers.

-They can still visit the Demon World but this might cause it to crumble because they can't get ride of their human feelings. They have to be calm and try to not show a lot of emotion. Also, another important note is that even though the diabrothers learn human feelings that doesn't mean they aren't capable of still having demonic thinking. They can still be sadistic and cruel! If pushed far enough I would even say they can be just as sadistic as before but they can never let go of Yui.

-On another note that means if we still want to fantasize about Yui going into harem ending we can but the person who inherits the power either has to return it to the tree or live in the human world.

-Lastly, Kanato's route in Lost Eden was honestly my personal favorite (I still like all of the other routes too)

Diabolik Lovers Rant: #6

Subject: Karl Heinz and the multiverse (part 1)

Karl Heinz has seen 184 worlds fail at the Adam and Eve plan. The Adam and Eve plan is for a demon to awaken their feelings as well as Eve's feelings to awaken for Adam. We have seen Yui fall into this trap many times because the vampires are just as addicted to her blood as Yui is addicted to their fangs and when their true feelings awaken it has to be Adam's fangs/The holder of the heart's blood even if that heart is no longer inside them. This happened in Ayato's More,Blood brute ending where Yui becomes addicted to Ayato's fangs and even when Ruki is drinking her blood it still doesn't satisfy her because it has to be Ayato's fangs. The Adam and Eve plan technically is still not completely successful even after their feelings awaken because we learn in Lost Eden that a completely successful plan is Adam destroying the world because of their human emotions and that includes all of the demons. Karl Heinz doesn't like the demonic nature of the citizens in the Demon world and wants them to be replaced with Adam and Eve's children. Of course, the Diabolik Lovers brothers don't want to follow through with his plans and at the same time they don't want to give up their feelings to maintain the world. I don't think that they ever could give up their feelings I just don't see that happening because they would have to do the same thing as Karl Heinz and stay away from Yui and numb their emotions. It took Karl Heinz many years to do this with Cordelia and that's why we barely saw Cordelia with Karl Heinz. The only way he could maintain Eden was to not have his powers spiral out of control and the only way to do that was to give up his feelings. Karl Heinz is a single unit character which means there is never another copy of him but there are many versions of the Sakamaki brothers, Mukami brothers, and Tsukinami brothers.

Karl Heinz has been referred to by Christa as "the devil" and "Dracula" in Dark Fate which I find really interesting. Did Christa call him that because she found out about Karl Heinz experiments and became traumatized? Or did she call him the devil because he's quite literally the leader of vampires and a god that is feared/respected by many. Even when one of the vampires inherits his powers (Ayato's is the closest to Karl Heinz's powers) they never become a multiverse god and only seem to have control of their own world (which is sometimes destroyed because of their own emotions). Does them not becoming a multiverse god have something to do with acquiring human feelings and because they learned them from a human they can somehow manage the Demon World without it collapsing? It has been a while since I read about Lost Eden so I am going to further dive into it but Reiji's route confused me. In chapter 10 of his ecstasy route he said that his father was able to transcend everything and become a god because he does not feel anything. In his ending though Reiji has his emotions, the world does not collapse even when he's being affectionate with Yui, and the vampires are still alive including all of the brothers. Are they able to maintain the world with human emotions and not lose control of their powers because they learned human emotions from a human and not a demon woman like Cordelia? Honestly, I'm stumped, but that could be another reason why he plotted for the triplets to kill Cordelia. Maybe Karl Heinz only had to give up demonic feelings/nature which made it easier for him to transcend to a god and failed as a Adam because he couldn't learn human feelings through Cordelia (Reiji hinted at Karl Heinz learning feelings and giving them up but maybe they were different because she was a demon??). Rejet please release something that's all about the lore and patches up potholes. I know it's an otome series but Lost Eden and Chaos Lineage opened up so many questions. I believe that the diabrothers won't destroy the demon world with their human emotions because that's what happens in some of their vampire endings (Reiji). I just want to know why they won't destroy their world even with their human emotions. Maybe somebody else knows help I am going to re-read their routes and post another follow-up tomorrow.

Diabolik Lovers Rant: #5

Subject: The sacrificial brides and Kanato's dolls

All of the dolls that Kanato has are Cordelia's previous admirers and sacrificial brides. As a result of Karl Heinz leaving Cordelia behind for many years demons started trying to attack Cordelia because of her enticing blood and didn't have anything to really defend herself. Demon women according to Carla and Shin have less magic and power. They said that founder women don't go outside much because demon men attack them for their blood and unfortunately Cordelia/Yui have the most irresistible blood. Kanato and Laito started killing them off which pleased Cordelia and this was shown in Kanato's prologues+epilogues in the first game. It makes me wonder if some of the familiars the Sakamaki brothers use are previous admirers of Cordelia? The sacrificial brides are used as bat familiars even if they are preserved in Kanato's doll collection so maybe the guys they killed can be familiars too? Cordelia started neglecting Kanato after he learned to suck blood and on the rainy nights he felt cold and lonely. He keeps dolls because they will never leave them but still ends up being lonely because they are not alive. He is stuck in a cycle where he doesn't want to be lonely but still ends up being alone. A part of me wishes that Kanato in later games and CD's didn't move away from his doll collection but then the empathetic part of me is like "it's healthy for Kanato not to have this obsession and doesn't need them anymore because he has Yui".

I was reading the Diabolik Lovers Anime Totuken DVD episode 0 and Shu at the end of the DVD said something interesting that caught my attention. Shu received a message from Karl Heinz that the "true sacrificial bride would be coming" and so all of the other ones were literally just prey for them and Karl Heinz knew they were going to die. If Yui didn't have Cordelia's heart I don't think that they would have fallen in love with her and she probably would've died. Karl Heinz in Ayato's More,Blood ending mentioned that he wished that they could've fallen in love naturally but they were just too twisted.

Diabolik Lovers Rant: #4

Subject: Teddy, Disney references and thoughts on the "dinner banquet by moonlight cd"

I like how in early drama CD's the brothers talk about killing each other but they don't only because it's an inconvenience. Ayato didn't want Reiji to kill Shu only because they would have to clean up the mess which was mentioned in Shu's brute ending and we also see this in the CD when he tells them to take it outside. Also, when I first started watching the Diabolik Lovers anime I only thought Subaru had a silver knife but Reiji said that he's been spending nights and days sharpening a different silver knife to chop off Shu's head which is kind of funny. Even though Rejet is inconsistent about how vampires die, one thing they have been consistent at is bringing up the fact that they can die when their head is chopped off. Reiji says that he will kill his brothers one day for sure and then goes and cooks them a meal because they are whining lol. I also like how teddy is the embodiment of evil and it makes me wonder if he uses different spells and souls to make teddy come to life? In his HDB route he performed a ritual so that the soul of a sex maniac would possess teddy, is the same soul possessing it at the end of this CD or is it another? Sometimes I miss how freaky and scary Kanato used to be, but it's not like his demon nature has completely vanished 😂🧸

In a lot of Diabolik Lovers CD's Reiji is just trying to enjoy his cup of tea until a brother comes and ruins it which this time it's Shu. I like that even Reiji calls him the "vampire version of sleeping beauty" and I guess that would make Yui the prince. Laito did actually call Yui prince charming when Ayato was sleeping for months in his More,Blood route and referred to Ayato as sleeping beauty. The Halloween CD that had the triplets in it also mentioned that Laito has Disney princess dresses in his closet and dressed up as Alice from Alice in Wonderland which is really cute. I love it when they make references to popular stories and characters like Disney.

Both Richter and Ruki have an unashamed foot fetish for the person they love. This was shown in Ayato's Dark Fate route when Cordelia was demanding Richter to lick her feet and in Ruki's route when he was kissing Yui's feet. I am going to start writing down hints at fetishes that some of the characters have. Ayato and Laito have a thigh fetish and Subaru has a leg fetish.

Diabolik Lovers Rant: #3

Subject: Would the Diabrothers still love Yui if her heart was placed into somebody else?

This crossed my mind because Ayato and Laito's routes in Dark Fate explored a concept of trying to forgive and let go of Cordelia which they were able to do with the help of Yui. I for a while believed that because they were able to move on from Cordelia that they would be able to move on from Yui if her was placed into somebody else. I don't believe that anymore because even though Cordelia didn't have her heart in Dark Fate Richter was still loyal and simping for Cordelia. He's always like "I will do anything for my beloved Cordelia!" with or without the heart and so I think the diaboys would still only have feelings for Yui. I think that if a demon sucks enough of Yui/Cordelia's blood or if the holder of the heart spends enough time with a demon then they fall in love for real and can't let the person go even if the heart is moved. Edit: After their feelings awaken they can't let the holder of the heart go even if they no longer have that heart.

Another reason they would still have feelings is because the guys were still attached to Yui in Lunatic Parade even without her heart and Shu, Kanato, Carla, and Shin even discussed turning her into a demon which means she would have a different heart (examples are Kanato chapter 1 and 2, Shin's ending in Lunatic Parade). Subaru at the end of track 4 of his Daylight CD said that he wouldn't let Yui go even if her blood wasn't special and that her blood doesn't mean anything to him anymore. I believe him! Subaru in track 5 of his Daylight cd said that her blood would taste special regardless of its taste as long as it's "her blood" and he wasn't talking about the heart but her herself. He would sacrifice everything for Yui (the other vampires too) the same way Richter would sacrifice anything for Cordelia (except Cordelia doesn't seem to have feelings for Richter and Yui of course has feelings for Subaru lol). I think that the Daylight CD's and Lunatic Parade routes in general do a good job showing that they are not just attached to her because of her special blood. When their feelings are awakened they can never let them go.

Diabolik Lovers Rant (mini): #2

Subject: Vampire irises and nails

I was reading and listening to the audio of the Ayato, Subaru, and Reiji Haunted Dark Bridal Genteiban DVD and learned an interesting fact about what happens to vampires when Yui is close to awakening. Reiji had Ayato and Subaru look into a mirror only to discover that their irises are bright-red. Reiji said "You are acting unconsciously and can no longer control your vampiric impulses" and then this was never brought up again. I love the idea that their irises can turn red when they lose control of their impulses and it reminds me of how Lindo's eyes turn red in Dance with Devils which is also another otome game created by Rejet.

Another interesting detail that Rejet sometimes either chooses to ignore or forget about is the fact that their nails are canonically sharper than human nails. I don't remember what CD it was but it was one with Kou and he mentioned that vampire nails are sharper than a human's (I am going to try and find it later). In my head that's how I like to imagine them, I like to believe that they have claws (kind of like Demon Slayer lol) but unfortunately in the manga and anime they aren't shown to have sharp nails. Let the vampires be vampires and have sharp pretty nails 💅🏼

Edit: I found the audio! It's Diabolik Lovers Kou More, More Blood track 3 and he said: "Ah! That’s right…A Vampire’s nails are as sharp as a knife, so I might just ‘accidentally’ slash through your skin" (Credit: dialovers-translations, Kou More, More Blood volume 2 track 3).

Diabolik Lovers Rant: #1

Subject: Cordelia's death

(This is my first post I'm nervous lol)

I find it interesting how Cordelia already knew that Kanato was going to incinerate her body. She said "Please you must hurry I know that he plans on incinerating my body" in the anime which makes me think how did Cordelia come to this conclusion? She hasn't seen Kanato at all and why was this her immediate thought when Kanato was trying to find her? I was looking for context clues in the first game as well as the official anime fan book and I think I found a good theory (maybe it's true I don't know). I think that Cordelia figured out that Kanato (along with the triplets) would eventually try to kill her because of her irresistible blood that drives all vampires mad. If you look in Laito's profile it says "He was a lovely young boy who would happily play with his triplet brothers. However, he too, held twisted feelings towards his mother" those twisted feelings as we know comes mainly from Cordelia's heart (Diabolik Lovers Anime Official Fan Book: Sakamaki Laito's Character Profile, translation: dialovers-translations). As a result of Kanato developing twisted feelings for his mother it's my theory that he has either threatened to kill her in the past so that she would belong only to him (weird family dynamic) or that Cordelia figured out on her own that Kanato (along with his brothers) would eventually try to kill her. Cordelia's fate was similar to Tomie where everybody develops a maddening love obsession with her to the point where people would get violent. If they can't have her then nobody will and Kanato is known for being a yandere character. I wouldn't be surprised if that was what Kanato wanted to do when trying to incinerate her, especially since he has threatened to kill Yui so that she would only be his. Yui also died similarly in one of Kanato's endings in the second game except not only was Yui's ashes put into a teddy (very similar to Cordelia's ashes in the first game) but she was also possessing it. Cordelia wasn't possessing teddy in the first game because she was trying to awaken in Yui's body and so her soul was already gone before Kanato got there. Anyways, maybe I am thinking too much about this and it was just a random assumption that Cordelia had but I still found it interesting.
