Driving thoughts from DigiCamp
As I drove the hour and a half trip back to Huron, Ohio, I had a few “driving” thoughts. These were the ideas that kept coming around while watching the camper presentations today…
Before coming to camp, I envisioned an atmosphere in which campers would bring devices, ideas, questions, and content to explore. Counselors would bring devices, ideas, answers, and ways to support content exploration. Wow…that and MORE!
Because of the camp framework and positive vibe, I was able to witness and participate in what I thought of as a beautiful blend of conversation and digital learning. People sharing, talking, and laughing together about technology, children, learning, and the future of education (mixed in with lost passwords, setting up twitter accounts, and apparently getting lost in parking lots). But, CONVERSATION! Just the process of throwing our ideas and experiences out there for others to connect to, possibly challenge, and learn from. Wow! Very cool for a 5th grade science teacher who LOVES to connect.
Also, it was really cool to hear the passion in voices when talking about content and students. So many times, when I discussed the technology portion of DigiCamp, I was excited to hear about what you already do with students. The desire to take the content and students and explore other ways to approach teaching and learning was really the highlight of this. Knowing that it is risk taking and sometimes not 100% successful, but willing to try and grow in the process…WICKED COOL!
In the presentations, I was happy to see projects that addressed current needs and issues facing you, your students, and school. Making vocabulary fun through a wide range of methods…you’re students are going to LOVE you for the work you put in! Creating “how to” screen casts for your colleagues, wow…that is SO forward thinking!
So, thank you campers for compiling such a phenomenal collection of examples of technology being used to enhance and support both curriculum and students. Your work this weekend will impact THOUSANDS of kids in Ohio. That is really, really cool!
Very excited to continue sharing ideas…so feel free to email, tweet, or send smoke signals my way! I look forward to connecting again, as a counselor/camper/learner/sharer. ;)
