Jacquemus Fall/Winter 2017 shot by David Luraschi
I have lost my faith.
It’s never coming back
and I am grieving.
God is gone and I am left wondering
if He was ever real at all.
Left trying to figure out
how to soothe a sad partner
and help them gently understand
that I am still me.
That there is still so much of me
to love.
I try to explain that if they were to change
in this way, it wouldn’t matter to me.
So that maybe they will still love me.
Even though I’m different now.
Even though I am broken and
suffering.
Even though a new path may reveal itself
to me.
I try to express that an interfaith existence
could benefit us and our daughter.
That we could teach her, firsthand,
ecumenical fellowship and love from
the beginning.
That we could show her what true amity
and love looks like in a world convinced
that to be of different faiths is to be
in conflict.
We could show her that compassion and celebration of diversity are
in fact
the real ways you love your neighbor
as yourself.
