Bringing you Diwali Fest during Diwali Week: 12th November - 16th November!

As everyone knows, Diwali is one of the most celebrated Indian festival! Every region of India has different customs, traditions and folklores regarding this festival! These are five days of happiness and enthusiasm!!

Calling for everyone who celebrates Diwali and/or wants to create a fandom content around it!

Let’s create Diwali themed fandom content including but not limited to: Moodboards, Artworks, headcannons, drabbles, stories anything and everything you want! It can be AUs, characters learning about Diwali, characters celebrating Diwali.. anything you want!!!

A/N: sooo it's diwali here and I thought, why not write something on it? Enjoy my lovelies! Also this is an entry for @diwali-fest 's event!

It's diwali and this time, Harrison is celebrating it with you and your family in India.

He is very excited as it is his first time celebrating this festival and also a bit nervous about meeting your parents.

He wears a kurta to make a good first impression and also learns some hindi greetings.

Like, he goes 'namaste uncle and aunty' and they're so impressed with him and you're there trying not to faint.

I mean, hindi in his voice? Dhhdbshsjdjj

You spend the day in the kitchen preparing sweets and snacks with your mother and also make the Rangoli outside your house.

(he secretly takes candid shots of you while you're doing your tasks)

In the evening, you decorate the house with lights and diyas, and he helps you put them up in different patterns.

You then put your new lehenga that you had bought for the occasion and made a simple small braid, leaving the rest of the hair open, put on some makeup and wore some jhumkis and a gold chain. (Bindi as well)

He's so smitten with you when he sees you in this look, it takes all his willpower to not just grab you and kiss you senseless till both of you are out of breath.

"you're the one to say, Haz! You look so handsome in this kurta!"

You spend the evening bursting crackers.

He takes so many photos of you and posts them on his instagram, captioning it 'wouldnt want to be anywhere else than right here with my beautiful princess😍😘'

You post a picture of him in a kurta as well, captioning it 'my handsome prince is rocking it!😍😍'

Tom is shipping you both so hard.

While your parents are busy talking to your neighbours, he steals a kiss from you when no one else is watching, and hugs you.

LAXMI PUJAN / KALI PUJA

Laxmi Puja/Kali Puja falls on November 14th this year. The day falls on the no moon day of the Ashwin month according to the Lunisolar calendar.

On this day, people worship goddess Kali for protecting against evil and goddess Laxmi for wealthy and prosperous year.

Story Behind the day under the cut 

After Amrita was found in the churning of the ocean , devas and asuras started fighting over it. Lord Vishnu, assumed the form of Mohini, a beautiful woman to break up the fight. After she distributed the Amrit amongst gods helping them recover from the curse.

Goddess Laxmi had chosen Lord Vishnu as her consort and the wedding preparations began in earnest. It was the most celebrated event, with every sentient being in the universe attending. Gods welcomed the goddess of wealth, good luck and grace with a bang. 

Laxmi Pujan is the wedding day of Lord Vishnu and goddess Laxmi. It falls on the darkest night of the month and everyone decorate their homes with diyas. It is an event to welcome Laxmi in our homes, decorating it with Rangoli and garlands in her honor. As the dusk approaches, people worship the trio of Laxmi, Ganesh and Kubera for their blessings for a prosperous year.

The other story revolves around Goddess Kali. After destroying the hordes of demons in the battle, goddess Mahakali couldn’t calm down. She was rampaging out of control after destroying many demons. Fearing her wrath might destroy the universe, Lord Shiva laid down at her feet, trying to calm her by praising and praying to her. Seeing her consort under her feet, Kali snapped out of her trance and calmed down.

People pray to Kali for the protection against the evil and combating negative forces.

DAY 3: NARAK CHATURDAHI/ KALI CHAUDAS

Narak Chaturdashi/Kali Chaudas starts on November 13th and ends on November 14th this year. The day falls on the 14th day of the Krishna Paksha of the Ashwin month according to the Lunisolar calendar.

On this day, people worship goddess Kali for her part in killing off Narakasura. It also starts Diwali celebrations, waking up early for ritual bath, distributing sweets and setting off fireworks.

Story behind the day under the cut

A long time, there lived Asura King Narakasura, son of Bhumi (earth) and Varaha, Lord Vishnu’s boar incarnation. He was promised a long prosperous reign and a boon from Lord Bramha dictated his mother, Bhumi could only kill him. Soon he conquered all kingdoms on earth and with help from his general Mura, he defeated gods as well. The powerful king declared himself the overlord of heavens and earth.

He started pursuing goddess Kamakhya, an aspect of goddess Kali that represents desire. He was adamant that she is the only queen befitting his kingdom. Since she couldn’t refuse his advances outright, she set an impossible condition in front of him. She demanded him to build a staircase leading from the base of the hill to her home on top of the mountains overnight. He accepted the challenge and almost succeeded, but at the last moment the Kamakhya tricked a rooster to crow. Duped by the illusion, he gave up the pursuit for a while.

The more enemies he subjugated, the crueler he became. His armies caused havoc and he imprisoned sixteen thousand girls as hostages. When Satyabhama, avatar of the earth and wife of Krishna, received the news about treatment of women in Narakasura’s kingdom it enraged her. She approached Lord Krishna to wage the war on him and to free everyone from his unjust rule.

Lord Krishna readily agreed and began the preparation for the war. Narakasura had an impenetrable fortress and an enormous army at his disposal. Krishna was leading the opposition, mounted on his eagle and accompanied by Satyabhama. Krishna used many weapons in his arsenal and defeated the army, but general Mura and Narakasura were different stories. Both of them were elite warriors, powerful and masters of their art. 

It was an intense battle, but there was no clear winner. Krishna killed the general, but the king was still fighting. They exchanged blows after blows and countered each other’s strikes. Despite of his best efforts Krishna could not subdue Narakasura. Soon Narakasura gained an upper hand, striking Krishna off the eagle. 

Satyabhama who was navigating the eagle now entered the fray. Joined by goddess Kali, they started a duel assault on him. Narakasura couldn’t hold up against the fierce fight of furious ladies. Satyabhama trapped Narakasura under her trident, ready to kill him when he requested the last boon from his mother. Despite his faults, Narakasura was a beloved son and one of the mighty kings. He requested he should not be remembered by hate but by joy. Goddesses agreed and decreed everyone will celebrate the day in remembrance of the victory, never mourned.

They liberated imprisoned women, returned her stolen earrings to Aditi, the matriarch of gods and other items he had stashed away. Aditi in return gifted Satyabhama a sampling of the Parijat tree. When society refused to rehabilitate freed women, Krishna married them as a gesture of honor. 

When the victorious couple returned home, Krishna’s wives rubbed dirt and grime off them, anointed them with perfumed oils and herbs and drew them an elaborate bath with scented scrubs. This tradition is still followed as an early morning ritual of waking up and having a perfumed-oil uttan bath before the sunrise.

It is a day to conquer the laziness and evil which create hell in our life and shine a light on life.
