First time Doggie Daycare
Doggie daycare, I feel, is very similar to taking your human babies to daycare while you run errands, go to work or even have a relaxing day to yourself. It seems to be growing especially popular with the millennials. It has been said that younger groups aren’t taking the same roads as our mentors have. Such as getting married and having human children. Although we still fill the void of such commitment with bringing an animal into our world. It has been in my experience that the finding a doggie daycare for a first time parent can be stressful. There is a certain comfort of leaving your dog home, maybe in a cage, while you are at work vs taking them to a daycare to be looked after by strangers. This is normal and any great daycare will be able to see these signs and show you the compassion you deserve during this hardship. A few pointers for your search.
1. Do your research. Doggie daycares are very popular and seem to be popping up on every corner. They are not ALL created equally. Spend a day touring every facility that appeals to your eye from their website. Read reviews, but do take them at face value. Every business has a few rotten apples - if there are 27 great reviews and 1 bad - don’t get discouraged. I would even suggest asking about that one review if you are nervous about what was said.
2. Write your questions down prior to your visit. When you feel prepared and in control you will have a more relaxing conversation and head what is being provided by each resort.
3. Watch the humans interactions with the dog and your dogs body language. Human and Dog psychology is not much different in the more generic ways (I will touch base on the similarities often). Not every person is outgoing just like not every dog will be. A professional in this field will respect that and not push the dog into an uncomfortable situation and take their time to build that rapport.
4. Price, there are many different prices out there. Some are expensive and some are dirt cheap. Be sure to take into full consideration before walking out the door over a 10 dollar difference. Personally, I am a strong believer in you get what you pay for.
5. Plan a couple daycare sessions on your days off. This will give you the flexibility to come back early or call in to check on your pooch. Some resorts have cameras and this will allow you to log in to see you have nothing to worry about.
Most importantly it is the staff that makes any daycare facility great. Compassion, professionalism, patience and knowledge are what you want to look for in someone you are handing your pooch to. And the tall tale sign is when you come back and your dog gets excited to see their new human friends.
Your dog will never lie to you. So trust them :)
Who am I? Today I am a newbie blogger that has a lot on their mind and needs another source of release. Always, I am Joyce. An animal activist that has fully submerged herself in the world of all things animal related. I am 31 years old and have traveled a lot but not enough of the world through the United States Navy. I worked on C2 Greyhounds and enjoyed every minute of it. Present day, I work as a Manager at a 5 star dog resort and LOVE every second of it. I have come across many people from all different backgrounds and have come to realize (hold on to your seats for this one) ignorance is an epidemic. WHAT! Shut up, no way. Calm down reader. This is true. And if you don’t believe so, the first step to recovering is admitting you have a problem. Go ahead. Take a moment. I will wait for you. Welcome back. My goal is to inform and educate based solely on my experience and knowledge. I have been in the animal industry for about 6-7 years now. My knowledge is constantly evolving and being twisted to fit into this industry. I hope you will find what I write informative. Bare with me and enjoy the ride while I jump in the drivers seat for this new journey. Such cheese. I know. Cheers.
