Regard your soldiers as your children, and they will follow you into the deepest valleys; look on them as your own beloved sons, and they will stand by you even unto death.
Sun Tzu, The Art of War (via justakansasboy)
“… Startled you how, exactly.”
There goes her week-long streak of days without incident.
“It made a noise when I bumped into its side.”
She kicked at a few loose bolts, they skittered off into the wreck just hidden in the shadow of the building next to it. Her regal gaze swept over the lost Kryptonian’s mistake without a trace of surprise or fear, her small frame suggested one of the worker drones that scurried about the human places near there but something in the eye, that one was powerful. Somehow.
The little Earthling’s bearing was reminiscent of a lieutenant.
“You must not tell any one of this.”
She’s taking too long to answer. If she wasn’t her, she’d probably be frightened after seeing that. But she is her. So she just gives a looooooong look at the remains of the car, unimpressed, and then a looooooong look at the girl.
“——————— Depends on how many people were hurt.”
“None were present. This-” she looked at the car, cocked her head to read above the bumper and attentively back to the woman, “-Impala startled me.”
@mistresscffear cont.
“This-”
She gestured behind her at the ruined lamppost and parked car separated into roughly three pieces, and her conspicuous attempt to hide the evidence by shoving it all in the alley. Some of the car was a tight fit.
“-Stays between you and I?”

“You are- of Krypton as well? -As Superman. I didn’t know there was another one out there.”
“What have you done to me?”

“Hey! HEEEEEY! You down there, STOP!”
“Why. Who are you?”
Space is so creepy and wonderful. Who the hell needs hell when there’s space.
Like there’s an old constellation called Eridanus that you can see in the southern sky, and its not a very interesting constellation. It’s a river. It’s actually the water that’s pouring out of Aquarius, so in the sky it’s kind of boring. It’s a path of stars.
But within Eridanus, in between the stars, there’s a place where the background radiation is unexplainably cold. Because after the Big Bang, there was all this light that scattered everywhere, and it’s the oldest light in the universe, but we can’t see it. It’s so dim that it only shows up as a glow of microwaves, so to us, it just looks like the blackness of the night.
But there’s this spot in Eridanus where that little glow of ancient microwaves isn’t what it should be. It’s cold and dark.
And it’s enormous. Like a billion light year across. Of mostly just emptiness. And we don’t know why. One theory is that it’s simply a huge void, like a place where there are no galaxies. Voids like that do exist. Most of them are smaller, but they’re a sort of predictable part of the structure of the universe. The cold spot in Eridanus, if it were a void, would be so enormous that it would change how we understand the universe.
But another theory is that this cold spot is actually the place where a parallel universe is tangled with our own.

Flight was a balm. Clouds rising from underfoot and the wild air whipping her hair back, it was enough to forget for as long as she could. Before she made her way into Metropolis it was all she could do to stay up. Nerves weighed her down. The only drive to go into the Superman’s city was the fatalistic need to end that prey’s fear. Irrationality had gripped her too long in her voluntary isolation near the planet’s poles. She had stayed there while the world rotated around her, distant and unreachable.
A sound stopped her heart. Whistling above her plane of flight in the Earth’s atmosphere He came. Big and red and blue. If she squinted the crest of the House of El stood out brightly across his chest. She sped headlong into the closest screen of white puffy water vapor, praying to deities that had long since abandoned Dol-Zod, formerly of Krypton.
