* ᴛᴀɢᴏʀᴀ hated taking the omniscuttlecoach. To be more specific, he hated taking the cheap omniscuttlecoach, the one crammed with more lowbloods than it had serviceable parts, the one that made an ominous gurgling sound at higher speeds or light levels. The one that he had just boarded, passing over its fare and giving his clipped thanks at the noncommittal grunt inviting him in.
Proximity to so many strangers was unpleasant at the best of times, when he laughed and shook hands and traded discreet, bland bits of gossip with ceruleans, indigos, even the occasional terrifying purple. Now, faced by seats packed (even at this time in the morning, in this ruined end of town) with nobody above olive, he walked stiff-legged and stiff-lipped down the aisle to the only visibly unclaimed seat, then stood for a moment, awash in sour, platonic hate for the whole coach. For his partner with the window seat in particular, he amended as he sat down in frigid silence.
The troll besides him was bronze, as he could tell from the symbol on his dark sweatshirt and little else. Just about every article of clothing on him placed somewhere on the spectrum from gray to black—it was a wonder he even managed to see out of those shades. In fashion and posture both, he gave off the heavy and specific air of a troll indifferent to opinion and resentful of expectation. Naturally, Tagora ignored him, staring into his own lap with an expression that was very pointedly not a glare but could have been with a degree more intensity. Lucky of him to get the seat next to the rebel after a messy turnover to the drones.

* ᴡʜᴀᴛ in the hell was that?
At first glance, Tagora had thought the figure out his window was a particularly gutsy lowblood, hair dyed red as if it were something to be proud of—as if all the effort of bleaching and coloring was worth it to announce to the world at large, ❛ hey, look at me, I’ll live a thankless, miserable life of manual labor for a dozen sweeps or until the drones get to me, whichever comes first ❜. Then, as he’d paused to look for any other potential signs of rebel affiliation as grounds for culling, it’d all struck him: horns not just nubby but entirely absent, skin milky and soft-looking, hair bright, mutant red. Either a hopelessly deformed troll or an alien.
He was out of his hive in moments, stride long, business card at the ready. The past perigree had been slow; a few more caegars, whatever he could get for this wreck on two legs, would do him some good (and hopefully enough good to replenish his rainbow drinker serum for the next perigree). With any luck, an alien might further net him a more impressive settlement, maintaining the purity and-slash-or security of the homeworld and all that. Either way, he plastered on his most professional, subtly sharp-toothed smile as he approached, eyes flickering over a number of questionable fashion choices and more inches of height over himself than he was strictly comfortable with before settling on the alien’s face.
❝ Evening, sir. I couldn’t help but notice you don’t seem to be of the planet’s native species. ❞ This close, even the alien’s scent was off. He doubted a blind troll wouldn’t have noticed. ❝ I would advise legislaceration services to avoid any unsolicited or shock-related cullings, if you haven’t pursued them already. ❞ There was his business card, presented in all its laminated, practiced-cursive glory between two immaculately-manicured fingers.
