Moments I love from Digimon Adventure (1999) - [8/?]
There’s something that I noticed while watching the Myotismon/Tokyo arc as an adult that I didn’t register nor care as a kid/teen, the relationship between the digidestined and their families is adorable and very different too. Things I completely appreciated today than back then, to the point that it made me emotional every time they had a bonding moment with their parents
For the kids it’s been months since they saw their parents, so you would expect everyone to have a moment like Taichi at the Yagami residence, but it’s nice that they still show it instead of ignoring it. I love the Yagami fam, and I’m really happy they didn’t double down or what it seemed to be at the first short/movie where their father looked more like an alcoholic than a normal person. Instead they have this “like father like child” small bits like Hikari and his dad watching TV and reacting in the same way at the same time.
Koshiro’s is one of my favorites, adopting a kid is a lovely thing to do; the awkwardness from both POV is interesting but most importantly, both come from a place of pure love and wanting the best to their parents/child, eventually talking things through and opening up to them without any barriers.
Mimi’s parents are so fun lmao, they are all over each other like a lovey dovey couple and can’t stop being cute even with the bizarre context around them, and when you think about it is so cute that she is raised in an environment where they shower each other with love constantly ;;. Also and more importantly, Mimi dad is voiced by Takahiro Sakurai so he is goated.
Even the divorced couple/parents are nice! I know what that feels like, as it’s the case of my own parents, and as Yamato and Takeru’s, they put their children as the priority first, both for their safety but also respecting their decisions of involving themselves in here; instead of, you know, focusing on being petty with each other for no reason. They are adults, they can interact with your ex husband/wife, is not that hard.
We also saw bits of Sora relationship with her mother, and while it seems they clash constantly, she by herself understood before coming home again that it mostly from a place of caring, which is confirmed and shown in these moments, specially when Sora’s mom saved her and almost sacrificed herself to the Bakemons so she can escape freely. Giving no room to doubts about them.
And while you don’t see Joe parents more than they are doctors who wants their children to follow the “tradition”, the cute thing about his family is his older brother, not only being reliable and a good guide for Joe to follow, but also reminding him that he should follow what he wants, and not what others want him to follow instead
Well, I guess you can say that if I love the way Digimon portray family, I should mention and love Yamato & Takeru relationship and Taichi & Hikari relationship right? Well… I LOVE IT! Upon my favorites of the show
