Jewish, LGBTQ, feminists NGOs condemn DC Dyke March for Jewish Star ban

LGBTQ, Jewish and feminist organizations called Wednesday night on the DC Dyke March to apologize for their ban on the Jewish Star of David and Israeli flags.   While there was originally no official announcement, after participants inquired, they discovered that they would not be able to bring Israeli flags or related national symbols to the march. Organizers later wrote on Facebook that, “participants [may] not bring pro-Israel paraphernalia.” While there was originally no official announcement, participants who inquired discovered that they would not be able to bring Israeli flags or related national symbols to the march.

“We ask the organizers to hold true to their mission of inclusivity as stated on their website: ‘The DC Dyke March exists to celebrate and center all Dykes,” a statement by Zioness Movement, A Wider Bridge, Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Washington and AJ Campbell - former Director of The Nice Jewish Girls and founder of The Jacobs Tent Project - said in response to the DC Dyke March’s decision. “Together we call on the DC Dyke March to apologize to the community and reverse course by allowing Dykes wishing to carry all Jewish and Israeli symbols to march as their full, authentic selves.” This controversy is not new. Two years ago, a similar incident occurred when the Chicago Dyke March’s organizers kicked out several people for carrying Jewish Pride flags.

However, the following year, Palestinian flags were seen waving at the Chicago march. Its been 12 years since the last Dyke march in DC, according to The Washington Post. The organizers said they brought the march back to life because it was badly needed, as LGBTQ services and legal protections were being erased, The Jerusalem Post reported.

Remember back in 2017 when the first antisemitic Dʎke March incident happened, and multiple people claimed the only issue was that the Magen Davids in question were a “suspicious” shade of “zionist blue”?

So two years ago, everyone was pushing back against Jewish bloggers for complaining because it was “just about the colour not about the star” (nevermind that the Israeli flag is blue because the colour blue holds significance in Judaism, not the other way around). 

BUT NOW - it’s not the colour blue, it’s the Magen David existing on a flag, full stop (”but don’t worry because if it’s not a flag then it’s fiiiiiiiiine”). 

See how the goalposts are changing? How long until all Jewish symbols are eliminated for being “suspiciously nationalist” one by one?

I just find it so very interesting how people always have to question lesbians on almost everything about us

People will:

- question if you are a “goldstar lesbian” or ever been with a man in the past just to see if you are a true lesbian but not.. all while those same people wont ask something similar to gay or bi people to prove their sexuality

- view ter//fs as an only lesbian thing when there are cishets who are ter**fs and cis gay & cis bi transphobes / ter**fs

- be fine with gay men such as drag queens using she/her pronouns but question lesbians when they use he/him or they/them and then question if the are truly a lesbian or not

-look at terms such as butch and femme and think it’s on the same level straight relationships

-ask why lesbians don’t just settle for the rainbow flag but in the same breath add every flag and then some under the sun and NOT the lesbian one

- be fine with gay men having female artists as gay icons such as lady Gaga but will question why a lesbian views Hozier ( for example ) as a lesbian icon and will say that we like men

I could add more but y’all!! You don’t have to jump through all these hoops to show off your clownery! Just say you hate lesbians and call us the d slur and move on!!!!!!!

Billie Joe Armstrong literally wrote a song about coming out as bisexual as a teenager, and then like two years later wrote one that was pretty much all about dressing up in drag and getting fucked by/fucking guys, and y'all STILL say he’s a “straight ally” because he married a woman??

The same goes for Freddy Mercury and David Bowie. Both were openly bi. Both wrote (multiple) songs about their queerness. Both are pigeonholed as either “gay” or “straight”. They were both neither of those things.

hey remember when freddy mercury wrote a literal song about wanting to be allowed to be bisexual without it being a big deal and was incredibly obvious about it and then straighties went “oh lol look at how quirky queen is writing a song all about bicycles!”

This also happened to p!nk, she’s openly bisexual but since she’s married to a man and has had two babies with him, people say that she’s straight.

Like, yeah she does a lot and shows a lot of support for the LGBT+ community but she isn’t just an ally, she’s part of that community.

Biphobia is completely real and so many Bi wlw and mlm are assigned the “straight” role when they just ARENT.
