First thing first
First of all, let me start by saying that I am by no means insinuating that everyone or even anyone should be following my lead. My relationship with God is mine and mine alone, so before you start with the Astagfurlahs maybe keep an open mind?
I am a woman, I am a daughter, I am a mother, I am a sister, I am a friend, I am black and I am Muslim. Sometimes, however, I am none of those things. Sometimes I’m just not here to represent for anyone, sometimes I’m just a person trying to navigate this world to the best of my abilities whilst trying to find my happily ever after. Imagine how hard that already is without me having to add all the labels and take into consideration all these parts of me and what is deemed “appropriate” by all the people who feel represented by these labels. It seems to me like my quest for love has just gotten a lot more difficult.
So I am hereby introducing you to my slapdash guide to finding the one. Full disclaimer: this guide isn't tried or tested with positive results, as a matter of fact, I’m the only person using it and I can share that I am still single as fuck! Why bother with a love guide then, I hear you ask? Yes, yes there have possibly been a billion or so written in just the last decade. Tell me though, has anyone told you how to go about this whilst trying to keep it halal (and sometimes failing at that even). It's not like we can ask our parents, who firmly believe that these men that are asking for their daughter hand in marriage aren't men you have dated, but instead were magically summoned to your doorstep by just the strength of your aunties prayers for a good husband. And whilst I do not have all the answers either, I do have the experience I gained in 8 years of my as of yet unfulfilled quest. Yes, I am aware that Frodo would have never asked me to go along for the fellowship of the ring. Dating is a land mine filled field, that you have to navigate through with care and at your own speed. So whilst I can't tell you all the things you should do to nab a husband I can give you some insight into the things you should probably avoid. I am happy to announce that these have actually been tried and tested, mainly by just me and sometimes several times. What can I say, I'm a hard learner I guess. However, the results of heartbreak and confusion were guaranteed therefore I feel confident in saying: Do not try this at home.
