Arthur was fairly certain that their children could outlast a dragon in a test of stamina. By the time the boys had been worn out enough to actually go to bed, Arthur himself was dragging his feet. Still, he wouldnât trade the early mornings or hectic days for anythingâit was a good thing, in times like these, that he was naturally good-tempered and high spirited. Still, he wasnât getting any younger, and there was no mistaking the ache in his back as he settled into bed next to Molly. He shifted over so he could drop his head to her shoulder. âPercy was telling me about how he took a little tumble earlier. The way he told it, sounded like he nearly died,â he said with a fond smile.Â
Every day, Arthur found something new about his family that he loved. Every day brought something unexpected, something new that made him remember why he was doing all of this, even in the middle of a war. Their children reminded Arthur that it wasnât just the present that was at stake. It was the future, too. He brought a hand up so that he could gently run his hand across Mollyâs stomach, humming softly at the familiar warmth of potential in the gesture. After all this time, it still hadnât lost its intangible power, the ability to raise his heart rate while still soothing him.
Molly enjoyed her evenings more and more the closer her due date got. With Arthur taking over bedtime and bath time, she had some time to just relax and read or knit, or even turn in early if she felt like. Tonight she was knitting, propped up by more pillows than strictly necessary, but she was comfortable and therefore didnât care. When her husband came in and joined her, she glanced at him with a fond smile and finished the row she was working on, before setting it aside for the evening. "If you think his retelling was dramatic, you shouldâve seen the fall itself; our sons definitely have a way with theatrics.â She kissed the top of his head before shuffling around to redistribute some of the pillows and discard the excess. âBill was on top of things though, he jumped right in and helped Perce get back up and go back to playing.â
As Arthur began to rub her protruding belly, Molly watched him with boundless affection. âConsidering how close his due date is, heâs been calm, like Bill and Charlie were. Looking back on it I definitely shouldâve known the twins were going to be such a handfuls, because they were anything but.â Sure she'd like to have a girl, but at this point she was comfortable assuming theyâd be having another boy, and so long as he was healthy, she really didnât care. She brought a hand up rest atop his lightly, stopping his movements so that she could guide his hand to another spot where the baby was shifting. âHe always does this, moves to get more comfortable after Iâve done the same, itâs kind of sweet.â
