However, unlike every other person, those who are genuinely born-again do not succumb to the pressures from the world to disobey God’s righteous commands. The power to reject the sinful lifestyles has been given to them. The promises of God to the Believers include the fact that they will not be under the dominion of sins. 14 Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live under the freedom of God’s grace. (Romans 6:14, NLT). The one who has been truly born of the Spirit cannot go on living in sins. That will make God a liar. And God is not a liar. His promises are reliable. His Word assures us that His glorious power has delivered unto us all that is needed ‘for life and righteousness’. It is within our power as Children of God to walk sin-free in the glorious liberty that Christ has won for us. The Great Fall in the Garden of Eden has ensured that every human being is born with the sinful nature. The sinful nature is essentially the nature of Satan, who became the new master of man on the basis of man’s choice to obey him instead of acting according to the instructions given to him by God. The Word of God is very clear on this – you become the servant of whoever or whatever you choose to obey. 16 Don’t you realize that you become the slave of whatever you choose to obey? You can be a slave to sin, which leads to death, or you can choose to obey God, which leads to righteous living. (Romans 6:16, NLT) Jesus Christ came into this world mainly to set humanity free from bondage to Satan and sins. 16 “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16, NLT). A genuine Christian is no longer held captive by sins. No, such a fellow has become liberated from the power of sin. The glorious power of God to live a righteous life is made available to the sinner who renounces their sinful lifestyles, and pledges their allegiance to God through His Christ at the point of salvation. [Part 2] DAILY FRESH FIRE FRIDAY 05 OCTOBER, 2018 FOCUS: Occultism and Nigeria’s Backwardness APPLIED SCRIPTURE: Deuteronomy 29:18 STUDY TEXT: Ezekiel 8:5-16 EXHORTATION Occultism encompasses all engagements with the supernatural realm without the involvement of the Holy Spirit. It is the practice or acquiring, processing, accumulating and applying knowledge of the supernatural world as made available by Satan and other sinister forces. It refers to theories, practices, and rituals based on esoteric knowledge of the world of spirits and unknown forces. Devotees of occultism seek to explore spiritual mysteries through what they regard as higher powers of the mind. To some people it is the study of occult practices, including (but not limited to) magic, alchemy, extra-sensory perception, astrology, spiritualism, witchcraft, sorcery and divination. Interpretation of occultism and its concepts can be found in the belief structures of religions such as Gnosticism, Hermeticism, Theosophy, Wicca, Thelema, Satanism, and neo-paganism. Nicholas Goodrick-Clarke defines it broadly thus: “OCCULTISM has its basis in a religious way of thinking, the roots of which stretch back into antiquity and which may be described as the Western esoteric tradition. Its principal ingredients have been identified as Gnosticism, the Hermetic treatises on alchemy and magic, Neo-Platonism, and the Kabbala, all originating in the eastern Mediterranean area during the first few centuries AD”. Occult is from the Latin word “occultus” meaning "clandestine, hidden or secret". It can also be said to be "knowledge of the hidden". In common English usage, occult refers to "knowledge of the paranormal", as opposed to "knowledge of the measurable", usually referred to as science. The term is sometimes taken to mean knowledge that "is meant only for certain people" or that "must be kept hidden", but for most practicing occultists it is simply the study of a deeper spiritual reality that extends beyond pure reason and the physical sciences. [Part 2] DAILY FRESH FIRE THURSDAY 04 OCTOBER, 2018 FOCUS: The Beauty of Open Heavens APPLIED SCRIPTURE: Matthew 3:16 STUDY TEXT: Deuteronomy 28:23-24; 2 Chronicles 7:13 EXHORTATION However, God designed us to be dependent on Him, and work in partnership with Him, though He gave us a great latitude of independence combined with extraordinary creative abilities. Human beings are meant to subsume their freedom of choice and innate creative abilities within God’s universal will, and use these resources to His glory. The scary thing is that man can choose to use his freewill and creative powers to act against God and resist His will as evidenced, for example, by the production of weapons of destruction, and technology supporting sexual perversions together with sex switch, and so on. As part of subsisting divine programme for the earth and its ruler, man, every human being has a portion of the heavens allocated specifically to him or her. Meditate on Deut. 28:23 “And YOUR heavens…” This allocated heavens space may be open or closed for the individual as the case may be. Open heavens refer to a state of spiritual affairs in which a person enjoys the full cooperation and support of the Almighty God. It is a spiritual condition characterized by Heaven’s readiness and eagerness to put their resources at the disposal of the particular individual that has found favour with God. When you pray under the condition of open heavens, your requests are granted instantly. If certain requests are not granted to you, you will know why they have been turned down, postponed or delayed, because when you request to know the reasons, Heavens will oblige you. Technically under the condition of “Open Heaven”, there is nothing like unanswered prayers. Under this condition, you enjoy protection far superior to the one constitutionally guaranteed to the President of the United States of America. In fact, you have resources at your disposal that make the capabilities of the best the United States can offer seem like a miserable option! It is a well-known fact that human beings can do many great things without putting God into consideration. You do not need to know God or honour Him to be a good doctor or mathematician. Neither does anyone need to recognize the existence of God to be an inventor or an aeronautical engineer. You can damn God, and still go on to enjoy all He has created, and live a personally satisfying life. He disobeyed God’s instructions regarding the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. He ate the fruit of this particular tree at the prompting of Satan, thereby rebelling against the authority of God. He failed the test of obedience. He was guilty of high treason, punishable by death. He died SPIRITUALLY immediately he ate the fruit. Spiritually in the sense that his spirit was DEACTIVATED. He was denied access to the networks of the spirits. Man lost the most critically strategic quality of his personality. He was demoted to a lower level in the ladder of beings and things, just a bit higher than the beasts. Man became a shadow of himself! APPLIED SCRIPTURE: PROVERBS 28:13 13 You will never succeed in life if you try to hide your sins. Confess them and give them up; then God will show mercy to you. [Good News Translation (GNT)] STUDY TEXT: LEVITICUS 18:6-25 EXHORTATION They include human sacrifices, blood covenants, occult covenants, consumption of meals prepared with human flesh as part of occult rituals, sexual intercourse with demonic spirits, sexual intercourse with corpses, sexual intercourse with lunatics as a ritual observance, abominable sexual practices like homosexuality, anal sex, oral sex, sex with animals, rape, group sex (orgies or swingers’ parties), incest (sexual intercourse between close relatives), menstrual sex, adultery, prostitution, and so on. Practices of this nature open the spiritual doors of those who indulge in them wide to demonic invasion. In fact, participation in them is a form of baptism into Satanism. Past or present involvement in any of these sins requires deep repentance before God. Anyone that is guilty of such sins must take quality time to repent of them before God, and ask for His cleansing. In the case of occult covenants, proper steps should be taken to renounce them, and cut off special links formed with Satan and demons. Accepting Jesus Christ as one’s personal Lord and Saviour does not automatically nullify the consequences of sins, but it offers a veritable opportunity to deal with them. Deep repentance and prophetic praying are some of the steps that one must definitely take to expunge the spiritual filth created in one’s life by participation in them. No one who has such load of spiritual filth in their life should expect a life-changing encounter with God even after having been validly born-again until these sins have been frontally dealt with by deep repentance and Spirit-led prayers accompanied with restitution, where it is compelling. This is what is called the heart of flesh as compared to the stony heart. The stony heart is a heart that is stubborn. A man whose heart is stubborn cannot submit to God in obedience. Therefore, if you desire have an encounter with the Almighty God, you must ask Him to give you a heart of flesh which loves to obey Him. He has promised to do that. Whatever God has ever promised to any man or any group of persons in the past in the course of His engagements with mankind is potentially available to all His children. You can make a demand on Him on the basis of such promises. In the same vein, it is important to know that God promised the ancient nation of Israel that he would put His Spirit within them, and give them a heart of flesh. That promise is still available to anyone who has been grafted into the Righteous Branch. Everyone who is genuinely born-again spiritually as illustrated in John 3:1-8 is a Citizen of spiritual Israel, which is the Commonwealth of Christ. On the basis of this fact, you can claim all the promises that God made to the physical nation of Israel in the biblical days.
