New Video

Hello all, 

This week’s video is a short overview of how I study Japanese and Korean at the same time. 😊 I give some general tips I think are important to keep in mind and some ways you can combine how you study them to learn them in an effective way. 

I’ve gotten a lot of good feedback on my language videos and am thinking about making printables in the (hopefully near) future because I think they’d be very helpful for language learners and specifically those who are learning more than one foreign language at a time. Stay on the look out for an update on those!

Myer-Briggs Results

So this is a bit of a random breakthrough I had but I randomly decided to take the Myer-Briggs personality test and actually see if it was BS or not. All I can say is WOW. 

My result was INTP-T and it makes so much sense. Not only is it helping me deconstruct past relationships and learn more about ways I can make my own life easier it is also helping me understand the best ways for me to learn! 

I have always had an issue with the way school was structured and that’s in part due to my personality type. I hate busy work, mindless repetition and memorization without practical application. I struggle to study things I don’t have an interest in and when I do have an interest in something it’s intense and all my attention goes toward it. 

I highly recommend figuring yours out and adjusting how you learn to suit you best!

some on-campus snaps :) it’s only my second day on campus and I’m falling in love with it more and more as the first day of quarter approaches. I know it’ll probably eventually wear off, but as for now I just feel lucky to be here. I’m far away from home, but exploring new grounds has never felt more exciting.

Updated Japanese Study Routine

It’s been 6 months since I gave an update on my Japanese study routine so I figured it was about time. I made a video detailing the specifics of the how I made my routine and what exactly I do + which of the resources I explained in last week’s video I use. 

Here’s a broad overview of the routine (Check out the vid for specifics!) 

1. Reading: 10-30 min

2. Grammar review: 30 min

3. Journaling: 5-20 min . 

4. Kanji + vocab review: 20 min. 

5. Listening: 30 min. or while studying

Japanese Learning Resources

Hey all, 

i’m back to share some of my favorite resources for learning Japanese. I compiled a list of textbooks, phone apps, and websites that I think are useful and I explain why I believe each one is helpful in the video linked below. Anyone else wish they could just download a language into your brain? Not because you don’t want to do the work to study it properly but because you just want to start speaking it already? 

I’m so eager to start speaking and reading Mandarin and Russian that it’s crazy.

Everyday the stakes that I am setting up in my life get higher. This is both a beautiful and terrifying thing. 

On one hand I am learning everyday, I am growing in ways I thought I couldn’t before and for the first time in my life I have a will to live and see a future for myself. 

On the other hand I haven’t fully accepted my potential. Any bad day now feels like the loss of progress and all that I’m building. I can’t afford to lie around feeling sorry for myself and I haven’t yet found a way to balance this pressure/motivation. 

If there is one thing I have learned in all this though it’s that fear is the greatest obstacle to success. So even though I am fearful, even though I am uncertain I am still moving forward.
