Running Spearman
Context can be everything… During Academy of Chinese Swordsmanship Webinars, we often look at Daofa applications in an almost dueling like setting, one on one. Daofa however, was more of a military/battlefield art. Men were often in tight lines or other formations, or as this page from the Bing Lu (兵录) illustrates, charging. Many of the movements we see in various forms make more sense if the spearman you are facing is charging, even at a slow run run.

· Improve Your Health and Wellbeing - 10 Tips for Daily Tai Chi Practice
Want to make a significant improvement to your health, quality of life and standard of Tai Chi practice?
Each day the sun rises and sets, make positive change to your life and align yourself to nature's energy with your own, consistent daily practice.
These are things I've learned from my own daily practice, I hope they help you with yours.
1.Relax and enjoy your practice. Tai Chi should be performed like a fish swimming in crystal waters.
2.Don't try too hard - just set aside your practice time and perform it effortlessly - morning and evening are best.
3.Find a quiet place where you won't be disturbed - this helps add to the enjoyment of practice.
4.Calm your mind, put down the bag - leave all of your thoughts, worries, stress and anxiety at the door when you enter your place of practice. Tai Chi is about spending time with your real self - the person who existed before you were a partner, parent or employee.
5.Life is always changing, some days are easy, some days are hard, some days we try too hard, other days we don't do enough. Try to keep to your daily practice and it will help even out the excesses and deficiencies of life.
6.If you miss a day, don't become discouraged. Relax and return to your practice straight away.
7.Let go of your thoughts - don't let the monkey mind distract you - Tai Chi practice is about relaxing and letting go.
8.Use a practice sheet or calendar to chart your daily practice.
9.Set goals or devise a practice program to work on different aspects of your training and evaluate your progress after set periods.
10.I like to work in lots of 100 days, that tends to be an effective goal for making positive changes that stick. But don't try to tackle 100 days in one go - break it down into lots - 2x33 days and 1x34 days works well for me.
Master Guo (Guang Ping Yang Taichi) standing in Universal Post. OG. “The universal post is a mystical form of martial arts We can never fully understand the way it is done It seems like an embrace with a smiling face You use your strength from within You are relaxed and use no force It is like clouds floating in the wind from all directions You use forces from the universe to substantiate your strength Your strength comes from your breathing You do not hold fast, leaving a lot of room to move You do not bend to greater strength So smoothly you move and so naturally Your breathing and your limb movements should not be impeded It is like moving in space In and out of the highest peaks and clouds Gliding through air and clouds Floating along with the winds Graceful yet composed Always contain calmness and peace Head upheld high with pride You embrace the world below you As clear and pure as an underground brook Like lead turning into silver spinning to the moon Looking into an antique mirror to look deep into your soul Your cup is filled to the brim Absolutely free of restraint and free of self You could fly as though you had wings Head towards the limitless horizon Like throwing a pebble into water The circles get larger and larger With your hands you push open the limits of the universe You embrace from within Heaven and earth and the ten thousand things capture your thoughts The eyes look outside with determination Up and down your strength flows You push and you embrace continuously Your thoughts should be pure This should clear your mind This should curb all illness You always return to the center You can attack or defend at will You must have a will of iron The principle of this is to strengthen To go for happiness and health Your body will benefit from this This has been handed down from the ancients This form of exercise can help you without limits”
