And so briefly, the hellhound depersonalizes herself just for this moment. Because, the real Scarlet needed to savor her last moment with a dear friend, thanks to the cognitive memories they shared.
Sniffling, Scarlet comes to her senses before curling her fists and gently hitting him softly before the pang of pain hits her heart. Fragility of her emotions consuming her thoughts.
Embracing him as she sobs into his shirt, clutching it as if he was going to fade away. Just like the boy/her first love from before. But she knows she has to let him go and live his life. Whether or not to suffer or be happy.
Having faith for Kay ever since their first meeting, she knows that he’ll be able to find his happiness. With or without the breaking the curse. At least, acknowledging that she was able to give him the opposite of loneliness, friendship. Because he has lived without a majority of emotions.
The wolf girl inhales sharply, “I wish you could stay here happy…But I would be a terrible friend to keep you here.” Speechless at his choice of words.
“I can’t promise you that, Kay.”
It feels real now, her touch, her voice-- the way her scent plays under his nose whenever the wind rushes against her. He tries to stop crying, but his tears continue just to compensate the pain he feels with what he’s doing and with what he’s about to do.
Memories rush him like a heartbeat, the coincidental meeting of the first day, him telling her she was beautiful, him calming her the second she was a wolf, him moving away, him trusting her, and him-- leaving.
If guilt sucks this much, then he wished he wouldn’t have met her in the first place
because he can’t bring himself to leave now.
But there’s something in him that screams to leave, to find himself and get back to her the second he does.
He smiles, a bittersweet smile before going to lean down once again just so he can see her.
“I’m going to come back, maybe not after awhile, but after a very long time”
“So promise me that-- even if it’s hard, even if you feel like you can’t keep it”
“Can’t you just lie to me now and say that you can promise that” he says, and chokes along the way.
