#I think they regret giving me this much room to name these cats #the Junior part is bc that's what we call the tomcat we KNOW fathered Bal. like his name is literally Junior #Bal also thinks they are part parrot since they keep sLEEPING ON MY SHOULDER -#I have not been on much half bc I've been going back thru old stuff and reading some #and half bc I can't keep the kittens off me long enough #anyways I also know Hopscotch's full name #Hopscotch Honeybun Sugarsnap #I think Mom might legitimately hit me if she hears that lmao

I have been awake and up since 5 AM and I think this is the first moment's peace there's been (it is 9:40 as of typing). and that is mostly bc the kittens are now contained for the night but oof

as an update, everyone has functional names for now. Mom is insisting on the black-and-white kitten being Balerion (I am humoring for now but that name is not sticking lmao). then we have Marble who's more or less the spunkiest and the one who needed some time to come around, she's got a kinda marbled pattern in her fur. and the darker grey-ish-brown-ish tabby is Wilbur solely bc the name got stuck in my head and they seem like a Wilbur (I will not be changing the name if Wilbur turns out to be a girl).

then we have the twins Hopscotch and Roly-Poly, who as their names might slightly suggest, have not fully mastered the walking thing yet. Hopscotch is doing better than Roly and is only slightly behind their siblings in development, Roly's still weak and we realized this morning not able to eat the same food as the rest. we've found a softer temporary substitute and are having to hand-feed until they've gotten that down (you have no idea what a relief it's been to see them get better and better at eating that). we're watching Roly pretty closely bc while they're definitely clever, they're also decidedly behind the rest, so there is some degree of chance they have neurological difficulties.

we are not planning on keeping all of them, can't honestly feasibly do that, albeit also don't really have a criteria cause it's early days. but esp if Roly does prove to have deeper problems/challenges, we're probably keeping that one. I will absolutely boo-hoo like a damn baby when the day comes we have to say goodbye to any of them

on a very related note - man, if I wasn't child-free prior, I definitely am by the end of the day

#in my defense we have absolutely had kittens before #likewise in my defense we've never had to like. take over from the actual felines this young (save one we had to bottle feed years ago)#and definitely never multiple at a time #truth be told I'm also like. well. the kittens have settled down so I might actually be permitted to try and write for a while

synopsis here is random cat turned up so we started feeding her with the other semi-strays who stick around (she has remained distinctly unwilling to come indoors so) -> cat was pregnant. big shocker. -> cat apparently has her kittens during the great health fiasco -> FINALLY start seeing the little devils. my request of only two kittens was very much not fulfilled and I will be speaking with management -> kittens are now moving around. right next to the main driving path. there are also dogs that occasionally wander up. and hawks. and owls. you see the conundrum. -> interest in dry food, okay, that's good -> realizing Mamma Cat is all but begging us to get these things away from her -> five kittens in a box by my bed for their first night last night, now becoming very accustomed to their new home and attention (albeit, still degrees of skittish of humans, esp humans walking)

bonus of our singular indoor cat occasionally staring from a far doorway with disdain and then slinking off (she's on my parents's bed well away from them utterly content with life)

pray for me. mainly bc I'm the main human on deck and also the only one without arthritis among other age-related issues (aka the one who can get up and down from the floor with them easiest)

back to Hunter now tho why did it JUST hit me as ironic that Percy takes his possibly most light-sensitive friend on a quest on the OPEN OCEAN. IN SUMMER. Al was probably popping Advil Migraines like they were skittles for a while there lmao

#I say as someone with light-sensitivity and migraines myself #I just hc children of Hecate being very light-sensitive particularly to sunlight #(and also prone to being slightly/highly nocturnal-inclined #but in the case of Hunter's Alabaster that's mostly cause he's 90% goblin)#I actually should've made Percy more light-sensitive bc my intent was to link him more to deep waters where there'd be less sunlight

I really just have too many thoughts and theories about Luke's quest in canon being a set-up but I had a couple of new (connected) ones recently

I think demigods as a whole get a kind of ... power and glory, when quests are going on. it sort of trickles through all of them whenever a quest is successful. it's probably one reason demigods from the ancient days seem, in some ways, to have been more powerful as a whole - quests were aplenty.

I've always figured Chiron was in the know about the set-up, but never really had a thought what he gained from it (beyond the general hope that Luke getting "knocked back to size" would keep him from getting up to, well, everything he later does). but we also know after Luke's quest, Chiron bans them outright, until the whole Lightning Thief business and war force his hand. so now I think he wanted Luke to go on the quest and fail - to have an excuse to ban the others from it. you can interrupt this as either a misguided effort to protect his charges or something else entirely.

I also usually think Luke took at least one sibling with him, or that he somehow managed to do it on his own (what probably looked like hubris from the outside, and was probably in part the case, but largely stemmed from Luke being afraid to put someone he cared about in danger, in case he failed them like he perceives himself as having failed Thalia). if it's the latter, that works in for Chiron's part as well. he can hold it over their heads as "see, even Luke couldn't do it on his own!" both to enforce the sacred three rule, and to keep anyone from running off on a solo quest (I'm looking directly at Annabeth)

#I also think a lot of the Olympians had a dislike/distrust of Luke inherently #half on a basis of Hermes doing shit to them for so many centuries #and half from sensing the power brewing in Luke #and maybe his resentment as well #so it was satisfying for them to see him fail and soothed concerns they might've previously had #bc there was no way he'd go on to pose such a threat if he'd already publicly failed at smth another hero succeeded at right?#unawares that this probably leads Directly into Kronos getting hooks into Luke's mind and all that unraveled from that

it's weird to me to remember that the basis for Hunter is actually the combination of three separate ideas - two of them for-fun aus I had going in my head

one of those wasn't even the same ship lmao. the other was Omegaverse.

#my little Frankenstein creation lmao #and for the omegaverse idea (which is where the Luke-in-tree part came from)#I took out the idea of them dreaming of each other for years when I was toying with the au #and obviously reintegrated it when I started Hunter #but Percy was x1000 more clueless in it believe it or not #OH MY GOD I ALMOST FORGOT #I had Michael and Ethan a couple(ish) in that one and Michael was literally operating on a principle of “I licked him so he's mine”

I present an idea: Luke collects stamps. sometimes it's cool/rare/vintage, often times it's just a random, run-of-the-mill postage stamp. he's been collecting them since he went on the run (city/state specific stamps are like travel logs, reminders of where he's been. he's been in such constant movement it gets hard to remember.) and at some point with Hal's journal, he realized he could stick them on the pages in it.

he does keep one of his stamps with him at all times through the years, physically on him at all times, a little Mother's Day commemorative stamp with colorful flowers. it's faded and tattered by the time he dies, barely stuck to the inside of his/Kronos's armor, right over his mortal spot.
