Standing Rock has become the largest gathering of Native Americans in more than 100 years, with water protectors and land defenders coming from across North America to stand against the Dakota Access Pipeline. They are risking their lives to protect the land and the generations that will inherit it.
What I desire is that my fellow American citizens stand with us. I ask you to please call or write your Senators and Representative to stop this blindness and greed.
And, if nothing else, please, offer a prayer for my people and all the people who are standing with us in prayer. Just offer some thoughts of protection for us. We ask that you offer a prayer for sensibility and common sense in behalf of all the two legged, as this is not just a Lakota/Dakota issue, this is a human issue.
This land that is being disturbed was once ours. Our people, our Indian Nations lived and governed our people all over this territory. This land across the Cannonball River that is now threatened was forcibly taken from us and there was nothing that we could do about it then and now.
Nonetheless, we still believe that we are the keepers of this beautiful land. Although it was taken from us, we know, we must stand and speak on this landâs behalf. We want everyone and the federal government to respect this land and water and take care of it. That is why our people are standing up and standing with the land and water. We have to be here. It is instructions that the Creator has given us. We have to be here. We have to protect ourselves and those that cannot speak for themselves.

âThere was a place near an airport, Kowloon, when Hong Kong wasnât China, but there had been a mistake, a long time ago, and that place, very small, many people, it still belonged to China. So there was no law there. An outlaw place. And more and more people crowded in; they built it up, higher. No rules, just building, just people living. Police wouldnât go there. Drugs and gambling. But people living, too. Factories, restaurants. A city. No laws.â
âWilliam Gibson, Idoru
It was the most densely populated place on Earth for most of the 20th century, where a room cost the equivalent of US$6 per month in high rise buildings that belonged to no country. In this urban enclave, âa historical accidentâ, law had no place. Drug dealers, pimps and prostitutes lived and worked alongside kindergartens, and residents walked the narrow alleys with umbrellas to shield themselves from the endless, constant dripping of makeshift water pipes aboveâŠ.
Kowloon âWalledâ City lost its wall during the Second World War when Japan invaded and razed the walls for materials to expand the nearby airport. When Japan surrendered, claims of sovereignty over Kowloon finally came to a head between the Chinese and the British. Perhaps to avoid triggering yet another conflict in the wake of a world war, both countries wiped their hands of the burgeoning territory.
And then came the refugees, the squatters, the outlaws. The uncontrolled building of 300 interconnected towers crammed into a seven-acre plot of land had begun and by 1990, Kowloon was home to more than 50,000 inhabitantsâŠ.
Despite earning its Cantonese nickname, âCity of Darknessâ, amazingly, many of Kowloonâs residents liked living there. And even with its lack of basic amenities such as sanitation, safety and even sunlight, itâs reported that many have fond memories of the friendly tight-knit community that was âpoor but happyâ.
âPeople who lived there were always loyal to each other. In the Walled City, the sunshine always followed the rain,â a former resident told the South China Morning PostâŠ.
Today all that remains of Kowloon is a bronze small-scale model of the labyrinth in the middle a public park where it once stood.
This isnât to say places like Kowloon Walled City no longer exist in Hong KongâŠ.

here is a reddit AMA from someone who actually lived in this place. Hereâs a list of the questions he got and what he answered.Â
Nothing is more fascinating than hearing a first-hand account.

TRUE
Orlando, who was dining with Leonardo DiCaprio at the Cipriani restaurant on Wednesday night, was very, very angry, when Justin, who didnât have a reservation at the eatery, approached their table to try to talk to the actors. DiCaprio had proceeded to shoo away the pop singer with his hand, leading Bieber to provoke a fight which saw Bloom jump over a sofa to get at the 20-year-old Baby singer at the restaurant.
