Books and Nooks || The Fitzgeralds
Edie had never decided which she hated more; the frigid cold of winter, or the unbearable heat of summer. If asked at that particular moment, she would undoubtedly answer, if her frozen lips would allow it, the winter. Her teeth chattered as she made her way through the snow, grateful for the knee high riding boots sheâd dug out of one of her trunks. She was unable to get into the store fast enough, placing her typewriter on one of the shelves and shivering for a moment before she heard her cousin.Â
Without further ado, she grabbed one of the smaller books beside her typewriter and hefted it at Edward, just barely missing him.
"You were supposed to pick me up an hour ago!â
If the person's presence hadn't been enough to pull Edward from his reading then the book flying just over his head certainly was. He dropped his own book immediately, just barely managing to catch his balance before the chair tipped over behind him, clattering loudly on the floor. He looked up, ready to damn his assailant out of his store and directly to the 9th circle of hell but the anger dwindled when he saw the person was none other than his cousin and heard her accusation.
"Oh god, Eddie. Was I?" He glanced towards the grandfather clock in the corner. It was true, he had forgotten all about picking up Edith. He covered his face with his hands, groaning softly before offering her an apologetic half-smile. "You walked all the way here? Good God, I'm sorry. I really am. It won't happen again, I swear. Here, you can wear my sweater."
