Flyers
Here are some recent flyer's I have made in the last month for events that I help throw!
MOBROLL!!!
We hosted MOBROLL at our shop last week! Which is a bike tour where who ever wants to join bikes from Bellingham to Olympia and makes stops along the way to perform!
There was performances by Manimal (rock), The Fun Police (celtic punk), Social Anxiety (freestyle variety show), Anja Claire (cellist), Dante Manalo (Ukelele), Dylan Clifthorne (multi-instru), Chloe Stamper (Guitar)
Added New Art!
Today Tim added Don't Stop Printing to our half wall!
Art's Walk
For the downtown Art's Walk we allowed one of our best graphic designers to set up in our shop. We helped him print several bandana's, posters, and t-shirts to sell to the community. Here are some pictures of the event!
Remodel Part 2
Here is the part where we took apart the upstairs office to add a new wrap around desk and new carpet. This room needed work because it is where all the graphic designs are made and drawn. Here are some images of the process we went through to make this offices great!
Finally after this we also added a couch out in the front retail area. Plus we made a back wall to our window display.
Industry Night #2
We did it again!! we put together another Industry Night for musicians and business owners to come together and collaborate new ideas. This night we had ET cook all the food and serve it at the event. We also had several artist perform, which were:
Ya Boy Remex
Globster
Kyle Miller
QP
DL Murray
and Rick Studley was the DJ for the night
We also had another raffle which included many prizes. The prizes we offered were CD's from local Olympia artist, two different pieces of artwork from our very own Leo Shallet, and finally four tickets to get discounts at Subdivision Studios or Don't Stop Printing.
Here are some images of the Night overall!
Remodel Part 1
So we decided to close down the shop for a week and do some remodel work to make the shop look more presentable. I first move was to put in new hard wood flooring and trim to make the retail space look nice. This first picture above are the stickers we plan on putting on our front windows.
We also added some new furniture for Robin to have meetings with clients. Plus we added new shelves and hangers to be able to start hanging our own shirts up for people to buy. Here is what our final front area looks like for our first remodel.
Learning how to Reclaim!
Today Mark my boss taught me how to reclaim screens to prep them to be used for the next print. To start the screen looks like this:
Step 1: You pull off the excess tape and then just lightly soak the screen on both sides.
Step 2: You use the emulsion stripper spray on both sides and scrub with the pink sponge until you get a good amount off.
Step 3: You then turn on your power washer and spray out the rest of the emulsion. (this part you have to be extremely thrall to get all of it off)
Step 4: You then spray de-hazer on both sides and let it sit for 10 minutes.
Step 5: You scrub off the de-hazer and power wash the excess off.
Step 6: You finally drip dry the screen and then set it in front of a fan to dry.
Now your screen is ready to be used for another print and looks like this:
Denmark
So a little out of the ordinary but my friend bought me a free ticket to Denmark for a week and a half to go visit him. Even though I was over seas I was able to continue my learning with business. My friend Andy goes to a social business college, where I sat in for his lectures and learn all about social networking. I also helped his group put together a local show in Aarhus Denmark.
Here are some pictures from my trip!
In class with Andy!
Streets of Aarhus
The event I helped his group put together with four local artist.
Bye Bye Aarhus!
Folk in the Road Show!
This weekend we put together a folk show here at the shop. It was something a little different then what we normally do being that are events tend to correlate with Hip-Hop. It was a great success and brought in a whole new crowd of people to see our shop. We had three artist play, they were:
Sunshine and Irony
Julia and the Dream
and Loons
We kept the show free but it brought in many new potential clients for the shop plus brought great entertainment for downtown Olympia.
Hear are some pictures of the event!
Here is a summary in video of Industry night! Enjoy!
Industry Night!
The night went swimmingly with music, conversation, food, and laughter! We had many people show up for the event from teachers at Evergreen to young new artist in Olympia. We even had Kimya Dawson and Aesop Rock swing by to check out what the Olympia music and arts scene is up to! We had performances by XP, DJ 360, DJ Fickle, Strife and more. Smoke from Sbdvsn Studios made over 300 taco's for everyone to enjoy. We even had a raffle for either 2 hours free recording time at Sbdvsn Studios or 10% of a $100+ shirt order from Dnt Stp! Here are some pictures from the event.
Done and done!!
We finally finished our largest order ever! This is me on all the boxes that we counted and taped up for shipment. All though we just finished this order there is no break we now have to immediately prep for the Industry Night we are throwing at the Don't Stop Shop. To bring local artist, businesses, venue owners, and collaborative together to get to know one another. We are working with Subdivision Studios to throw this event!
Volume & Demolition Week 1/22 - 1/28
This week was the start of our biggest jobs yet! We are getting to print for Volume and Demolition which are 2 BMX companies down in Southern CA. To start we have to de-tag and re-tag all the shirts which takes a little bit more time because we have to use the manual press. Here is us tagging one of the Demolition shirts.
After we finished tagging we got started on prepping to print the designs on the front of the shirts. Which for this job there are eight different designs! For the main design we use the automatic press which is more efficient. Finally the last step to printing is getting them ready to send off to the companies. This is where you have to fold, bag, mark the size, and then box them up.
This is an example of how we fold our shirts before they are bagged and boxed. Wish us luck we have two more designs to finish this week and then we will be able to ship off all the Demolition and Volume shirts. Yeah!!!!!!
Less than half of the shirts for a 1,000+ order by Volume BMX and Demolition parts out of southern CA.
This is of Double B and his old partner in crime Dan Fajans sing their song Fire! The video isn't the best but it gives you an example of how the show went!
Laundry Day EP release show for Double B!
This is the first event I helped put together for Don't Stop this year. It was Bobby Williams (aka Double B) idea to have his show in the store front of Don't Stop. So Mark the owner made the design for the flyers and Bobby, Robin and I did all the promoting! Here is a photo of Bobby and Robin standing in front of the flyers for the show:
As well as promotion we set up the venue and ran the door. It was $5 for the show which included a copy of the EP and the excitement to see other artist perform like Fresh Heads, Free Whiskey, Fooligan Crew, Wings and Wounds, and DJ Turtledove as well! The night was a huge success and we can't wait to throw another show here soon!
