Kaiser could never escape his childhood, even if he physically did. The nightmares that haunted and played with his mind in torturous ways every night left a petty reminder of the subhuman trash he’d always be.
And of course, he was mortified at the thought of anyone even beginning to conceive him as a helpless man, so when he started dating you, he was skeptical at first.
From finding every excuse imaginable for sleeping separately to directly telling you to fuck off if you ever saw him after he’d awaken from a nightmare.
But sometimes, they’d get so wild that when he was awake he couldn’t even begin to process them, which often let him vulnerable, staring into the dark ceiling hoping for the feeling to pass.
And tonight was no different from that. Kaiser begun his almost ritualistic routine of blankly and unmovingly bore his eyes into whatever he could focus on first, except that you were already awake.
You crawled softly over to his side and rested a gentle hand on his sweaty temple, which made him physically recoil and you, pull back. “Micha…?”
He gulped fervently, trying to regain even if just a little of his sanity. “Hmph. What.”
You sat besides him in the most non menacing way possible, trying to get him to calm down without causing an even further negative reaction. “Do you…want water…?”
You asked in an attempt to struck a conversation with your boyfriend’s current limp self.
“No…no…Stay here.” He gruffed demandingly, like everything he spoke. But this specific demand had an underlying affection hidden deep under years and years of buried insecurities, mistreatment and an aching need for love that he now tried so hard to accept.
And you were there to serve him that love, you always did, and Kaiser knew and appreciated this so much, attempting to be more open with you by leaning into your newfound embrace on his waist. He never wanted to let go.
