I think that when Jon was in college, Georgie was his only real friend. Other than that, he just spent time with whoever Georgie spent time with, and a lot of those people really disliked Jon. They probably would have gotten into plenty of debates with him, as Jon was prone to argument and “always liked to be the center of attention”, as Georgie said. Basically what I’m saying is that I think Jon was lonely, excluded, and stuck in an arrogant shame spiral.

besides heinrich pulling a helen and reminding us “i’m not your friend or your grandpa, fuck you” it’s fascinating that alice DOES choose to sacrifice herself instead of taking the cursed toy to Jack, a similar choice many archives victims have faced-pass this off to someone else or it’s your own life. we have been told explicitly in the text of the magnus archives: “you have a choice, even if it’s a shitty one. you still make a choice” (discounting the web, i suppose, but that’s another ten million paragraphs i don’t want to get into right now)

here, alice makes her choice, and it doesn’t do anything. she’s got the toy. she can’t get rid of it. one way or another she’s doomed herself or jack entirely, but probably jack. protocol says “you can make a choice if you want. it’s just that i’m going to disregard it entirely”
