“And still Cat Grant always only wanted me to get her coffee. Or make sure her make-up is still in place,” the blonde shook her head and laughed. “She said I would not have the elbows to surive in this business, you know? I am too nice in her opinion…”
And, it was true - Kara was nice. Always had been. But did that mean she was no good journalist? Did you have to bite and scratch out eyes to get a good story these days? Sometimes, it almost seemed like it to her.
She reached over to her best friend, placing her hand over Lena’s and squeezing it gently. “You are not spoiled, Lena. being spoiled would mean you wouldn’t even think about finding a job now, simply because you do not have to work. You just grew up in a different way than a lot of other people. Nothing you should be blamed for,” she shrugged and smiled. “We will find something. Like…. if you would have the free choice, where would you like to work? What would you like to do? Chances are, no one here knows us, so the also would not think of Luthor Corp the moment they see you. Something we should use to our advantage, I would say.”
“ then i’ll willingly put myself in the crossfire of our world’s queen of all media & declare her wrong. ” it’s a light banter, her tone as casual as it could come, but the hint of seriousness in her eyes implied that if she truly heard such a thing coming from cat grant, lena would be willing to get herself & l-corp in that woman’s bad side to defend kara. “ here’s a fun fact, ” lena suddenly speaks, body turning to face kara & leaning her weight against the back of her chair, “ america’s interrogation program during 2015 consisted of horrifying acts, some i dare not to mention while you’re eating. a quick read on the united states senate’s report shows one thing that force & aggression yields little to no result, even false statements. but kindness, eagerness to help the interrogated get their life together, yields a substantially higher result. the results can be applied to journalism, or interviewing a person, your kindness has gotten more information out of me compared to the aggressive tactics used by other journalists. ”
while she doesn’t understand anything about journalism, par the few details kara tells her during their casual lunch ‘dates’, she’s familiar with the opposite side. she knows how she & those of similar status would react to an ‘in-your-face’ journalist compared to sweet kara who listened & cared for what they felt. they may not be able to bite back in fear of their actions being placed on media, but they’re more likely to ignore them. the kryptonian’s methods are part of the reason she believes her earlier statements to be true.
“ a world where no one knows of luthor, ” a soft smile lifts her lips at the thought, its occurred to her multiple times since her wild entrance into this town, but it still makes her smile. all she needs is to either lie about her last name, forge documents, or marry someone & she’d be able to rid herself of it forever. fingers tap her chin in thought, drifting from how to get rid of her last luthor connection besides dna & what job she’d wish to have if allowed. “ i’d make inventing my full time job if i could. i didn’t want the r&d department of l-corp asking for my opinion & assistance whenever truly needed, i wanted to work along side them, in the labs. i’d upgrade my old inventions, create better ones.... however, i’m not certain it’ll work here ?... ” green eyes stare & ask for confirmation, the idea of inventing being a useless job in this town came from a disney movie instead of real life knowledge.
