Here is the first real video I’ve done. I had no intentions of filming this day, but I’m glad I did. This video gained a lot of popularity, and because of this I’ve been asked to come out to a couple events this summer. Looking back I really wish I had some sort of steadycam, as I had to stabilize the wide shots in post and had to crop quite a bit, kinda ruins the point of a wide shot.

This was my first large event that I went to only with the intention of shooting video. Honestly it turned out a lot better than I thought it would. I had a few issues finding focus after my screen was hit with a paintball and got all gunked up. But it wasn’t hard to make it work in editing. Really pumped for the next event.

As for the footage this was my first time trying out the M17 SMG, I honestly really like it, it was nice to have a light magfed loadout. The mags either fit into my pockets or into faz mags that I shoved into the swab pockets on my pants. No need for a vest. Editing wise, I whipped this up in about an hour at 2am, basic cuts but really just trying out some visual stuff. I attempted to add some depth of field to the GoPro footage, it kinda works, I like it, but it’s probably not the best idea to use it when i’m shooting at things in the distance. I also tried to add some sort of sun ray thing, i kinda dig it but in this video it only really worked/looked good for one clip. I also added some film grain to fill in the dark spots, it was a really grey day, so I tried to add a look to match that. Sucks that YouTubes compression completely removed the grain. Maybe I’ll upload to Vimeo in the future.

So this is going to all 14 of my followers here. I feel like I should start using this blog more, kinda as a portfolio type thing. No idea. It’ll mostly be paintball stuff.

Always be sure to thank the refs at the end of the day. Their only job is to make sure you play a fair game, and they throw themselves into lanes of paint just to make sure that happens.
