Shostakovich Symphony No. 7, “Leningrad”
Ok guys, I just had the most remarkable experience of my life. I’m not even exagerating. I had the oppurtunity to hear the Chicago Symphony play one of my favorite pieces of all time by my favorite composer. I just have no words for the experience. I was crying and shaking for most of it, it was just absolutely incredible.
So! I want to at least mildly share the experience with you. Shostakovich is my favorite composer, and the one who got me so wildly obsessed with classical music. His music speaks to me on so many levels, and is so powerful. It truly connect you to a time and a place so beyond yourself. I can’t say enough about him. But, I’ll let someone far more qualified speak about this symphony. READ THIS!!!! (pg 4-7)
Now that you have read this, and if you have 80 minutes to spare. Sit down, put some headphones on, and just EXPERIENCE. Let these sounds wash over you and transport you to a different time, and feel the experiences of people who have lived before you. Seriously, do this! This music changed my life forever, and that concert did the same.
Enjoy!
